U.S. Policy Firm To Brief Congress, Trump Administration On INEC’s Suspension Of ADC Leadership

The firm’s intervention comes in response to INEC’s recent action withdrawing recognition of the ADC leadership and halting all official engagement with the party pending the outcome of ongoing litigation.

U.S.-based policy firm Von Batten-Montague York L.C. has announced plans to formally engage members of Congress and the Trump administration regarding Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to suspend recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership.

The firm’s intervention comes in response to INEC’s recent action withdrawing recognition of the ADC leadership and halting all official engagement with the party pending the outcome of ongoing litigation.

The development has effectively stalled the activities of one of Nigeria’s key opposition parties at a critical period ahead of the next presidential election.

In a statement issued Friday, the policy firm warned that the decision raises significant concerns about democratic participation and electoral credibility in Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission has withdrawn recognition of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress and suspended all official engagement with the party pending ongoing litigation,” the firm stated.

It added that “this action has effectively frozen Nigeria's main opposition political party at a critical moment as it prepares to compete in the upcoming Nigerian presidential election,” warning that the situation could hinder the opposition’s ability to organise and participate fully in the democratic process.

The firm stressed that the timing of the development is particularly troubling, noting that Nigerians are anticipating credible elections.

“At a time when Nigerians expect free, fair, and credible elections, any development that disrupts political participation, creates institutional uncertainty, or undermines the perceived independence of electoral bodies must be addressed with urgency and transparency,” the statement read.

Highlighting Nigeria’s strategic importance, the firm underscored the broader global implications of the situation.

“Nigeria is not only Africa’s largest democracy, but also a critical strategic partner of the United States in regional security, economic stability, and counterterrorism. The integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process is therefore of direct importance to U.S. interests and global stability,” it said.

According to the firm, its planned engagement in Washington is aimed at ensuring sustained international attention on Nigeria’s democratic processes.

“Accordingly, the firm will be presenting its concerns to members of the United States Congress and the Trump Administration to ensure that the importance of free, fair, and transparent democratic processes in Nigeria remains firmly on the international agenda,” it stated.

The firm also called directly on Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to guarantee electoral integrity in the lead-up to the polls.

“We call on H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the conduct and outcome of the upcoming elections are beyond reproach, free from doubt, and fully reflective of the will of the Nigerian people,” the statement added.

The intervention by the U.S.-based firm signals growing international attention on Nigeria’s electoral environment, particularly as political tensions rise ahead of the next general election.

Already, the decision of INEC has led to controversies, with fears that the outcome of the ADC leadership dispute and INEC’s subsequent actions could have far-reaching implications for political competition and democratic stability in the country.

Instead of ADC to do the right thing they're going around crying. Let see if the US will hold the INEC from performing their duty.

Oga there is no back door to leadership.
If the actual members of ADC don't want them, let them go and start their own party.

And if it's too late to form a party, they should look for other ventures to engage in after all, they have all been in leadership positions for decades and achieved nothing extra ordinary.

There's no other autocratic and anti democratic leader in the world right now than Trump. He's even mooting an idea to cancel the coming midterm elections. Trump is choking the Democrats in the US, literally bullying and oppressing them all the way.
I wonder when opposition is going to learn, all your thoughts and evils against the President since assuming office have all failed. Why una no go get high blood pressure like this so?.
