HacheNoire:Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently, in terms of higher learning? |

BOOKWORMLUX:Why I stated “WILL” I put in 5 years of life into that way. 5 good years! Why I said if I knew, I would have invested in international certifications and climbed the ladder to the top. A first class graduate in computer engineering from a Nigerian university is not worth half of a CCIE in terms of pay or demand. |

Mariangeles:I would climb the ladder of internationally recognized certifications. I mean climbing my way from basic to the top. |

HacheNoire:So have you gotten the International certificates? The fact is that going to university in Nigeria increases one's chances of succeeding |

Keziehenry:If you work in a field of engineering, economics and finance, you must have applied it seriously Don't limit knowledge to only the classroom. It's applicable in many other fields of life. Mathematics actually makes you smarter in any field you find yourself |

BOOKWORMLUX:I graduated in the early 2000 when tech was mega hot. I had my wins but I knew and accepted I was far behind. What sold then has evolved into other things and Yes, I got those certifications. But if I had it at entry, I still be ahead than where I stand today. I spent one year in training just going to classes and earning salary. My next two years was supervised. I couldn’t even call INDEPENDENT shots. You know my pain, the nights I spent with calculus, laplace, strength of materials, applied and fluid mechanics. Reality hit me hard that I will never have the opportunity to showcase my skill to my employer. The whole extra shit I got during exams wasted! |

HacheNoire:Depends on what u studied. U cannot study med lab, medicine or nursing and make use of university knowledge afterwards. |
| Re: Have You Ever Made Use Of This Since You Graduated? by HacheNoire: 11:25pm On Apr 04 |
blowjohn:Medicine is exclusive. They have cadavers to have frontline experience. Even at that, ALL Nigerian graduates are illiterates to the front line techs supporting the industry. They will always have to readjust at some point when they get there. Now compare it with computer, mechanical, , electrical or chemical. Those guys are just solving calculations and doing practicals with outdated principles and equipments, which they only do once a while and not even majors. You know why those Philippine and Indian tech schools are always ahead, it because they follow current industry practice. Their graduates are already intuned or have a BASIC idea of the frontline operations and tools. They don’t teach them engineering law. |

You use it everyday and will continue to use it so long as you are alive. When you go to the market or stores to buy things, you use it. The x and y are simply the pepper, ice cream, garri, beans, rice, fuel price, transportation, etc. In fact, you do the calculations with your local language and ways without knowing it. It's just that students are not explicitly told that x and y represent the things they use use everyday. Even most advanced students don't even know it. |

Eriokanmi:You took me down memory lane. When I was foolish then, I thought that thing will get me a job automatically. The laplace transformations! If I ever get into power, I am arresting all those lecturers. They convinced us it was the future. |

You're trying to argue against education. Think about that. Does that make sense to you? |
| Re: Have You Ever Made Use Of This Since You Graduated? by yemre: 12:09am On Apr 05 |
This is mostly useful to you if you're in an engineering field. But in general it's useful for most people in rational thinking and trajectory insight even in our daily lives. We might not have it on paper but if you look closely, you would notice the pattern |

I think that it depends more on your field of study. My field of study and my present job requires a lot of all this (Aeronautics engineering). Also my side hobby requires this so much (Music production) when I'm doing audio mastering and Applying VSTi effects on my instrumentals in FL STUDIO, REASON, PRO TOOLS, NUENDO etc |

HacheNoire:I love your line of thought, but let me ask, knowing what you know now, will your kids attend secondary school and university or they'll just stop at Primary school, then start running professional stuffs... I'm asking cos you stated that only what you learnt in primary school is still relevant |

BOOKWORMLUX:I wish it was possible to give you one million likes! Just because we use finished products, we no longer appreciate the roots. Most of the technologies we use today have their roots in these Mathematical concepts. The artificial intelligence many people now use for has its foundation in training a model to learn and the principle is based on linear equation Y = mX + C , quadratic equation (logistics regression) and calculus for back propagation and gradient descent. The basics of generative AI such as chat GPT is Attention Mechanism which is all about vector algebra. Please o allow your wards to learn those mathematics concept with passion who knows, they may discover new things |

Well, y=mx+c. You are using it indirectly anytime you use any AI. |
| Re: Have You Ever Made Use Of This Since You Graduated? by HacheNoire: 1:30am On Apr 05 |
Yampotatocarrot:Secondary education is the nearest minimum. Not even with AI evolution now. University will almost become obsolete. Personally, I will be investing in them with frontlines languages and techs. The earliest starters will be the biggest winners! |

Yes, the application is to almost all life activities and not just the paper diagrams you see, It is usually used for prediction. |

If as a grown up, you don't see the applications of every single things you have been taught in schools in your everyday life then, you are one of the problems humanity have ! ..🤔 |
