I believe the aircrafts were hit by maybe manpads and were damaged and unable to continue with the mission.

Not even a fuuuullll will believe sand made 2 aircrafts unable to fly and also made 2 helicopters unable to fly.

Life is fickle, those pilots and soldiers might even be dead now due to blood loss.

It takes less than 5 minutes to die from blood loss. The operation went on for more than 6 hours.
