The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

Have you considered the cost of installing a solar power system capable of effectively running an average household equipped with air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and other moderately power-consuming appliances? In most solar-powered homes, a substantial storage system is required, typically at least twelve 200Ah, 12-volt batteries or a high-capacity lithium alternative, to ensure adequate power supply at night. These batteries are in addition to the solar panels and inverter, all of which significantly increase the overall installation cost.

To put this into perspective, a single 200Ah, 12-volt deep-cycle battery costs, on average, about 350k. When multiplied across the required number of units, the total quickly runs into several millions of naira, even before accounting for panels, inverters, and installation. Given these realities, what exactly is being argued when the financial implications of reliable power solutions are so evident?

This is where the population advantage sets in. Abians as many others from the South East run to other parts of the country and abroad, leaving their villages sparsely populated and hostile towards non-indigenes. Now when the chips are down, it is time to tell yourselves the truth. A tree doesn't make a forest. Enjoy your expensive constant light in peace while we light our candles with peace of mind from across the Niger. Perhaps, one day, God will touch Adelabu's new replacemet, then we won't have to pay as much for improved electricity.

My bill is about 35k monthly and I don't have up to 3hours power supply except sinc this April that it has increased to roughly 8 to 10 hours.

Electricity is cost everywhere not only Abia state, I'm on band A and I pay between 40 to 50k Every month.

Then you barely have anything consuming power in the house. An average 3 bed house on Band A will consume no less than 20 units of electricity in a day for the 18 - 20 hours and that will cost about N4,500 or about N135,000 a month. This is basic living. No frills. Are you sure all your load is on the meter.
