Bosman17:
How can they pay, when 98% of income was used to service debt. We were borrowing to pay salaries.

Unfortunately, the monies given to the governors are not being properly utilised, otherwise things should have tremendously improved!
why will they use the money wisely, while Tinubu gave them in form of bribe

If the Gencos are truly being underpaid by the government, this is unfair.

They are being forced to carry the weight of electricity subsidies and thr indebttedness of large amount of monies owed by gocernment instittuitions.

It is time the subsidies ends, all government bodies perhaps move to prepaid if it possible. I dont know the global best practixes in that regards.
I agree with bolded. If they can't agree on the figure, they should get KPMG or some other independent body to do the audit and arbitrate on the matter.

So dem dey listen to criticism...why wasting such money to offset debt when we can overhaul the entire power sector with such money.
If they didn't owe them in the First place, perhaps this money could have been used for overhauling

Reacting to the plan to offset the N3.3 trillion debt, Chief Officer of APGC, Dr. Joy Ogaji, asked, “Is verification unilateral in a bilateral agreement?”

If this is been owed for over a decade as the news said, then this APGC guy should go and rest. Has he forgotten there is something called BAD DEBT? They are part of the problem we have in the Nigerian power sector. We just keep funding them with payments without them generating anything for us.
Then what happened to GENCOs they owe billions.......should they commit suicide??

So if Peter Obi didn't criticize this useless president, He no for pay his debt to the electricity company?

Tinubu shivers when Peter Obi criticizes him and I pray that Mr Peter Obi continues to criticize him .
Bro, this issue has been ongoing since last year, it's not because of Obi's criticism.

The verification just ended and they have signed agreement with some of the companies even before Obi criticised the government.

Some of the companies have gotten paid over 200b before Obi criticised the government on power supply issue

HHHHMMMM.
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASON WHY I DISLIKE PRIVATIZATION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES FOR PIECE OF BREAD.
IF GENCOS WAS NOT PRIVATIZED, ALL THESE CASHOUT WILL NOT BE CELEBRATED BY THE THIEVES.
YOU PRIVATIZED BUT STILL USING GOVERNMENT MONEY TO SUPPORT THE THIEVES.

If nah you wey dey run one of the Gencos, shey you go agree to be underpaid?

A verification was made, government showed them evidence of what they truly generated and what they transmitted to the DISCOs

Is this writeup really from Daily Post or from a blogger?
Can a trained journalist write some crap like this?
Don't they have NUJ again? I think people should sanitize the journalism field. It's getting worse daily.
Tinubu Government has released funds more than one to the gencos or other groups in the power sector but Daily Post is making it sound as if the president did it due to Obi's ranting.
This is low. Very low.

Didn't he campaign to fix it?,
Is it rocket science?
Why do we keep making excuse for these corrupt leaders?

These huge debts accumulated over the past years.

I don't know why the previous government was not paying down these debts despite printing N20 trillion naira.

The privatisation of the power assets has not delivered any noticeable positive results.
Hope you know a that it was Tinubu that encouraged Buhari( may his unfortunate soul not find rest) to print money even when the former Edo state governor spoke against it?

Power supply has been poor for over 40 Years, it's not what can be solved with a wave of the wand.

I'm not happy with how poor power supply is in most part of Nigeria but there's a lot of things that are been done by this government to change the situation on ground.

My own be say if it's certain that with that amount, we will have stable electricity in Nigeria, let the presidency and his friends borrow us the money, when we start seeing changes, we will pay them back.

The mortgaging of tax payers funds should stop from henceforth.
Outside betting we won’t
The money would vanish

That a law was signed that States CAN now generate power doesn't mean that states HAVE STARTED generating power. The law didn't make it compulsory for them. It only said they could if they want to. And obviously some states don't have the capacity to do so.

So the FG is still very much in charge of electricity. You're trying with your propaganda sha. I just hope they are paying you well cause 30k is not money.

Which criticism? You people don't follow issues at the initial stages . Tinubu held a meeting with the Discos last year and they said govt is owing 6.6 trillion naira debt and the president promised to settled the debt after verification to confirm the said amount and after the verification, it was discover that the amount is 3.3 trillion and not 6.6.
So it took him 1 year to verify before payment. You people should be ashame of yourselves. Anyway, data boys must eat.
