“The Middle East conflict may have acted as a catalyst,” said Ding Shuang, chief economist for Greater China and North Asia at Standard Chartered, citing rising demand for yuan settlement, particularly in oil trade.

Oil trade transactions from middle east countries is now settled in yuan!

Iraq has technically been liberated from US that has been receiving Iraqi oil proceeds since after the Gulf war that sacked Saddam Hussein on the lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

It is over for Trump and almost over for the US dollars.
I am an admirer of China's ambition. However, China is not yet there at all.

It will take nothing less than 15 to 20 years to displace the USD. If current prevailing variables remain constant.

Do you know that Petrol-dollar (oil based tradings) only contribute to about 20% of SWIFT transactions?

Other non-oil related transactions such as electronics, AI & tech, construction, food, clothing etc constitute about 80%. Even if Iraq and some other middle eastern countries reject USD now, yes it will affect US, but they will still be fine ultimately.

The system globally has been entrenched to favor dollar receipts, and will take a while to get it changed.

CPC (China) will have to earn global trust and transparency that it does not manipulate it's currency value and it's reserve status unduly. Which currently they are not doing.

China still have long way to go thou. Currently USD have 58% of global foreign reserve while Yuan have just 2%.

Hehe u wey dey pray for US visa since 1970. When cant u go to terrorists countries and see if ur behavior will be tolerated?
Very simple!!!

Some are already overly excited about this temporary spike in Yuan's demand, driven by the war.

it would just be a matter for time, the market would settle and dollar would rebound.

Anyone wishing that the US and dollar would be dethrone anytime soon is joking.

The combined effective leadership of the US and the dollar was sealed in 1945 after the second world war.

It would take a miracle and the entire world, working together, to dethrone the US and the USD, which would never happen.

That is the key, transparency.
Until they can match the transparency of the west and allow their currency to be subject to world market forces it will remain inferior.

And this will take a total reform in the nature of the Chinese government. People underestimate the power of liberty. No one wants to live in an atmosphere of control no matter how profitable it maybe in the short term. The fear of losing it all, i.e risk will always remain and China has to become more democratic for that to happen.

If a Zimbabwean, a Pole, an Australian is confident that he can throw his life's worth into that safe and it will emerge unscathed no matter his disposition or circumstance he will do so. Until that is done China is a place just to make money and leave.

It is the gradual erosion of liberties in the US under the Trump administration that is increasing risk and calling into question the stand of the dollar. China today is much further down the line.

You are ignorant of how global economy works and how hegemony is destroyed. I am sure that you do not even know that China is ahead of US in many areas, including by civilisation.

If you know how petrodollars work to power US hegemony including in media (gulf countries are just about to pump billions of petrodollars to acquire the parent company of CNN) , you will not be ignorant anymore of how China is now the de facto Super power.

Those billions are staying in China central bank , not US federal reserve bank. Those transactions will soon balloon too and break the back of US bond market as interests on US bonds increase thereby raising the already crushing debt of US.

In less than 5 years, you will soon know what hits you is the reality playing out before you now but you do not understand because of ignorance.

US was destroyed and killed from within, Iran, Russia and China just nailed the coffin.

So you want china to replace the US? I don't think that's their goal. They emphasize multipolarism and using different countries currencies not just their own.

Ultimately china is a communist country having their currency subject to market forces is against the point of what they are trying to build.

Is he wrong tho? The petrodollar is the major thing that props up the us economy. They made a deal with the gulf monarchiew that they would reinvest their oil wealth in the us in exchange for security and military cooperation. This is a fact.

The Strait of Hormuz remains under Iran's control

Iran's nuclear program still exists, and Iran is likely more motivated to develop weapons

The Iranian leadership may have changed, but there's no sign of changed policies

The conflict may have shattered trust with U.S. allies

US aims and objectives was to destroy the aforementioned points, which one was achieved? Only the last one grin

China doesn’t want Yuan to have value than USD. Try and find out this.

The lower Yuan is, the cheaper it looks to manufacture in China. That’s why most nations face China and that’s what kpaied the UK and America.

Nigeria too won’t want Naira to have too much value, so as to bring in investors.

I think there’s nothing impossible, I heard through history that one pounds is equal to one naira . But then later we discovered that US dollar started rising and today is history, so same way yuan as started rising let’s see if it will continue or it will be cut short. If it is to earn dollars, it can be earned online, instead of travelling to slave under western imperialists.

Even without pervasive yuan transactions, there are already travel bans on most countries, so what is the issue. What is so special about the US.

I prefer to live in Asia than the West. I love the people, religion and culture.

Please explain to us how far it is ? Mr lecture.
An economy that is not committed to a green future is really far. No plan for hydrocarbon free economy. Zero carbon emissions
China is the only big economy commited to
Climate change agreements, US never commits always negotiating.
China is leading in AI and Robotics.
In terms of innovation, the US is years behind .

Where did I say I want China to replace the west.
I am specifically talking about the place of the USD as the primary instrument of international exchange.

And I did say why it is not possible without China reforming itself and adopting global standards which of course are westernized which includes transparency, the rule of law and liberty.

I don't want to, anything. As there is nothing kittl m can do for China or the US. It is entirely up to those states what happens to THEIR currencies.

If America becomes more Chinese, that is hostile to liberties, people will move away and stand somewhere in between like they are increasingly doing (by the OP details). On the other hand if China becomes more original American, that is open, free and responsible, its currency is bound to swap places with the USD.

Game over for petrodollars. The storm is gatheting for the US stock market. The US stock market is going down! Era of speculative bubble in their ;Doverpriced share prices with too much money from gulf petrodollars is over!

Even the US AI and techie companies will be negatively affected.
Not only share prices on the stock exchanges BUT every thing. The asset bubble in western countries is gigantic! I hope the whole system would collapse asap! It’ll be very painful for our people abroad (I don’t care grin).
