two things

first, the us needed a breather
so they did whatever they could to get one
and that entailed telling the iranians and the axis 2 whatever they needed to hear to agree to a ceasefire
this wasn't just a pledge to iran
they got china to sign off on it

secondly, it is unclear if the pedolf 🤡🤡 really thought they could work something out
definitely not agree to everything in the 10-point plan
but do a give and take
iran for example was willing to forgo reparations/compensation for the complete strait of hormuz control
maybe get jcpoa+ enrichment limit in exchange for the enriched uranium stockpile
that kind of laborious dealmaking

but when they floated it to the warhawks (aka tel aviv buttplugs)
