Calls For INEC Chairman’s Resignation Are Premature And Risk Undermining Democra by Prevail123(op): 7:52pm On Apr 12
...A Call for Restraint, Due Process, and Responsible Public Discourse in Nigeria

Sir Victor Walsh Oluwafemi
Public Analyst and Development Consultant has called for due process and responsible public discourse over calls for the resignation of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC's chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN.

In a statement he personally signed, Oluwafemi noted that:

"I am compelled, as a concerned citizen and a professional engaged in governance advisory and institutional systems, to address the growing calls for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash O. Amupitan, SAN.

"While accountability remains central to any functioning democracy, the manner, tone, and timing of these demands raise serious questions about intent and consequence.

"It is important to critically examine whether such calls are grounded in verifiable institutional breaches or whether they reflect political positioning and reactionary pressure.

Oluwafemi further stressed that: "The positions recently advanced by the African Democratic Congress and the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, if not exercised with caution, risk projecting a troubling precedent that leadership within critical national institutions can be influenced through public agitation rather than constitutional procedure.

“When institutions begin to respond to pressure instead of process, democracy itself becomes negotiable.”

"Nigeria’s constitutional framework is unambiguous. The removal of the INEC Chairman is not a matter for public sentiment or media campaigns, but one strictly governed by law. It is therefore both prudent and necessary to advise that all grievances, allegations, or concerns be subjected to judicial scrutiny.

At this stage, restraint is not only advisable but also essential.

“In every serious democracy, accusation must travel through the courts, not through microphones.”

"Equally concerning is the growing trend of unguarded and, in some instances, uncultured utterances across television, radio, and digital platforms.

"Public commentary on matters of national importance must be measured, responsible, and evidence-based. The consequences of careless rhetoric are neither theoretical nor distant.

"Recent electoral observations in Nigeria recorded over 200 incidents of election-related violence, with multiple fatalities.

"A significant driver of such tensions has consistently been inflammatory rhetoric and the premature delegitimisation of institutions.

“Words, when recklessly deployed in a fragile political climate, can become triggers rather than expressions.”

"It is therefore imperative to caution all stakeholders. Opposition actors must ensure that their engagements strengthen democratic confidence rather than weaken institutional trust.

"Socio-religious organisations must be mindful of the weight of their voice, particularly in matters that intersect with national governance.

"Those who appear on radio and television must understand that public platforms are not merely spaces for expression, but instruments that shape national mood and direction. Discipline in speech is not a limitation; it is a responsibility.

“Freedom of expression must never become a licence for institutional erosion.”

"This is not a defence of any individual. It is a defence of process, order, and democratic stability. Where there is credible evidence of wrongdoing, it must be tested through lawful and constitutional channels. Disputes must be resolved within the framework of the judiciary.

"Until such processes have run their course, calls for resignation remain premature and potentially destabilising.

“A nation does not strengthen its democracy by removing officials through pressure, but by upholding the systems designed to hold them accountable.”

"Nigeria must choose discipline over noise, process over pressure, and stability over sentiment.

Except amupitan didn't make that tweet there is no way he can oversee a fair election.
even some of us in the opposition are ashamed on his behalf because the hope of a bit fair election has been eroded and even asking for his removal might not save the face and integrity of INEC as an institution.

It's time for Christmas in this country to rise up. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is sitting tight in this government. He is an open supporter of the MYETTI ALLAH group. This group is allegedly terrorist compliant. Yet no one is speaking against him. Also Matawalle with all the fingers pointing at him is operating without any challenges.
I don't support any person or politician. But whenever the Fulanis see that's anybody is not representing their interests, they manipulate the masses against such an individual. I have written concerning Adeosun, the then minister of finance under Buhari. His refusal to allow them to keep siphoning the funds in NNPC without proper report was the reason why they rose up against her. Alex that was reporting the killings in the north and building houses for the displaced attracted their bombardments. Yet they kill high ranking military officers without them raising any voice. Look at Rev Ezekiel Dachomo that has been painfully conducting burials of victims of terrorism, immediately they heard that he was a repentant armed robber they started calling for his execution. Yet they have flooded Nigerian Military with Boko Haram. It's time Nigerias try to read the hand writing on the wall.
THE CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA SHOULD AS A MATTER OF URGENCY SET UP THEIR SECURITY NETWORK IF WE ACTUALLY WANT TO OVERCOME THE ISLAMIZATION AGENDA.

Was Patanmi removed from his position under Buhari with all the evidences against him? I am not in support of Tinubu in any way. In short, he has no reason to return to the Aso Rock Villa. But this Fulani media manipulation should be fought by all and sundry.

removing amupitan for who to replace him? I don't even envisage that as that is left between amupitan and his conscience the tinubu I know will not even appoint a neutral person to head INEC.
Like I said if truly he tweeted that then we don't need any fulani media to tell us whose side he will be in the election.a person in the shoes of amupitan is expected to conduct such election from a neutral point not minding who wins or not.

Everybody should read the major reason why Adeosun was forced to resign.
Suddenly, she forged her NYSC Certificate.
This is the same game playing out now. And All and sundry should resist it.

Adeosun gives reasons for FAAC deadlock

Adeosun

Abuja – The Minister for Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, says the Federation Accounts Allocation Meeting (FAAC) ended in a deadlock on Wednesday in Abuja, because the figures proposed by the NNPC were unacceptable.

the Minister for Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun

A statement issued by Mr Oluyinka Akintunde, her Special Advise, Media and Communications, said Adeosun gave this explanation on Thursday in Abuja, at the 89th Meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC).
The minister said that in her capacity as the Chairman of FAAC, she briefed the governors on the deadlock in the Federation Account in May.

She also said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was operated as a business and returns were expected from it.

“I gave an account that I give every month on the balances in our Excess Crude Account (ECA) and the Stabilisation Account.

“Items to note in the ECA are that in May 2018, we had an additional credit of 80.6 million dollars that accrued into it.

“For the purpose of this briefing, we operate NNPC as a business.

“We have invested public capital in that business and we have expectations of return and when that return falls lower than our expectations, then the owners of the business, which in this case is the Federal Government and States need to act.

“So, that was what caused the deadlock yesterday and we really felt the figures that the NNPC proposed for FAAC were unacceptable.

“We felt that some of the costs could not be justified and so we have decided that rather than approve the accounts, we will go back and do further work.’’

Adeosun, however, said that further negotiations and interactions were presently ongoing with the NNPC.

She added that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were also briefed on the deadlock asking for their support and their forbearance on the issue.

The minister said that this was because the consequence was that workers’ salaries may be delayed in many states as a result of the deadlock.

“In order to get the accurate figures that we need, we have asked for forbearance and the state governors and the Federal Government are all in agreement that we need to get to the bottom of these figures.

“In particular, now that the oil price is now 76 dollars per barrel in the spot market which means that bonny light is about 78 dollars per barrel, we want to aggressively set aside money in the excess crude account.

“So, we are very conscious that this period, this window of relatively high oil price might not last and we would like to be able to save.

“If we cannot get into the federation account the sort of revenues we are expecting then we will not be able to save.’’

Adeosun said it was a very important point underscored by all the governors, adding that they really wanted action taken.

She also said that they are fully in support of the positions of the Ministry of Finance and the Commissioners of Finance not to approve the accounts until they got further explanations on some of the cost being implemented.

On the issue with NNPC, the minister said based on oil price and oil quantity you could calculate what to expect to see in the federation account and if the figure was less, the right question any stakeholder must ask was why?

The writer of this article is high on some very cheap street drugs. The current inec chairman cannot and can never conduct a free and fair election. He is severely compromised and should resign. Calling democracy in this matter is trying to gaslight people.

Pantanmi was a cabinet minister, a member of the government and APC member. The president can decide to fire him or chose not to.
INEC is an INDEPENDENT institution from the government. That INEC chairman is affiliated to a political party totally destroyed his usefulness and he MUST resign. It is not new, judges recuse themselves to avoid conflict of interest. Amupitan has shown conflict of interest, his ability to be unbiased is totally vitiated. So, he MUST GO!

And Mallam Nuhu Ribadu together with Matawalle are still in the security department of this country and are directly working with the presidency. Ribadu with all the information linking him with the MYETTI ALLAH terrorist group led the Presidential team to meet with the US team. Yet, no one is raising any voice.
When I saw the comments against Rev Ezekiel Dachomo after he confessed to be a replacement armed robber, the Fulanis are calling for his head though they are busy recruiting Boko Haram terrorists into the Nigerian Military. Amputan is going to nowhere..
