Economist, Hayatu-Deen Joins ADC, Cites Insecurity, Economic Hardship, democratic decline

Former presidential aspirant and prominent economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deepening national challenges and the need for a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Sunday, Hayatu-Deen expressed disappointment over the unfulfilled hopes of Nigerians since his entry into politics in 2022, when he contested as a presidential aspirant in the PDP during what he described as a relatively open democratic space.

“Like many of you, I want a safer, more prosperous future for Nigeria, but the nation faces fundamental problems that are being ignored,” he said. “This was the motivational force behind my entry into politics in 2022… However, since then, the hopes and yearnings of Nigerians have been met with bitter disappointment.”

He identified the ADC as “the vehicle for change” and pledged to work actively within the party to address key issues affecting citizens.
Hayatu-Deen highlighted the daily concerns of Nigerians, who he said desire a government focused on practical solutions rather than “politics as usual.”

“Every day I hear from people across Nigeria that they want a government that is focused on fixing the problems, and delivering a safer and more prosperous future for their families,” he stated. Aspirational Nigerians, according to him, seek “a steady, calm and credible government alternative that will tackle insecurity, reduce the cost of living, and foster job creation,” ensuring that hopes for the future are realised.

The former banker also voiced concern over what he described as the shrinking democratic space in the country. “Voices are being stifled, institutions are under strain, and the space for credible opposition and real choice is being systematically closed. Democracy must offer Nigerians genuine options,” he said. “This gives me even greater impetus to be involved in the political process.”

Drawing on his professional background, Hayatu-Deen pointed to his track record in business and public service. He has successfully turned companies from loss to profit, led nationwide economic reforms that created new jobs, and coordinated charitable initiatives to improve children’s access to education amid insecurity.

“I will deploy my business and governmental experience that has, and continues to support millions of jobs in Nigeria,” he affirmed. Hayatu-Deen concluded with a firm commitment to the ADC’s cause.

“From this day onwards until the 2027 elections, I will campaign relentlessly as a party member, to help the ADC win the elections and deliver the better future Nigeria desperately deserves,” he declared.

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen is a well-known economist, former Managing Director of FSB International Bank, and has held various roles in economic policy and private sector development in Nigeria.

Methinks it is better you deploy your outstanding whatever to see to peaceful dissolution of the corrupt entity called Nigeria, mentality of the northern politicians is not a holistic development of the putrefying country, plan of the north is to waylay the Niger delta for oil and gas, dollars round trippings and introducing obnoxious anchor borrowers programme of Late Buhari in which a bag of rice goes for over 100000 naira to the glory of northern political farmers.
