TL,DR;
I applied for renewal on Monday, was vetted on Tuesday, rested on Wednesday, captured on Thursday, awaiting production on Friday...
Collection on Saturday perhaps? I joke 😂

Backstory
But for real, the DIY process was super smooth, without any hitches for me at the Ikoyi Passport office. I don't even know what I was thinking booking my appointment for the nearest available day which was 3 days after making payment, without doing any research. When I started researching, because there was a slight discrepancy with my birth LGA from NIN's side (not much of an issue because place of birth is really about the State), I saw that people generally were advised to book an appointment after their application had been vetted, and mine showed 'Awaiting Approval'. The panic become real when it displayed that you cannot change appointment date in Ikoyi branch.

Arriving for Capture
At that point, I just determined to take whatever comes to me at the appointment (time spent, potential frustration, and sweat) and just be done with it. Only for my vetting to be completed the next day. Then, finally at the time of capture today (15th Jan 2026), the process was much smoother than expected. Spent less than an hr there, with the bulk of the time wasted on printing the slips from a nearby cafe (for renewal after being vetted as of 15th Jan 2026 in Ikoyi Passport Office, you need to print out all application documents: appointment slip, passport datapage and passport renewal application with payment details clearly visible). I waited for less than 20 mins in the waiting room and captured in less than 5 mins.

The Actual Process (As of Jan 15th 2026 with my appointment date set for 10:30 AM that day)
With all the printouts ready, you head to SERVICOM building and ask for directions, as you will need to have the application signed or stamped by two offices there. Every office would request for your original passport so ensure you have that handy. From SERVICOM, you head to Room 17 in the next building to receive a stamp from two officials in that room, then Room 19 to submit the file. Not sure what happens there before capture as I was then advised to wait in Room 10. After less than 15 mins of waiting, my name was called and I was directed back to Room 19. After another roughly 5 mins of waiting, I was captured and informed that that was all and advised to come back in 3 weeks for collection.

The End 😂

Hope this helps someone out there, probably anyone frantic about LGA mismatches. I went with what my NIN showed seeing as it was not a major error. I'll attempt to correct NIN's error later but that would be much after I get my passport abeg 🤣

Feel free to quote this post if you have questions. However, I don't use this platform often so my responses may be quite slow.

Have a wonderful 2026 ahead, let's keep pushing for more professionality in our God-given country and may He bless you all richly!

Hello, good day, can someone please help me. I have two problems, I doing DIY.

1) My passport has been vetted but my NIN has not been verified, do I have to wait for the NIN to be verified on its own just like the way I waited for it to be vetted, or do I have to do anything?

2) My appointment day for capturing has passed and I can't rescheduled again, "it's saying this center can not be rescheduled", can I just go for capturing? Will there be any problem doing so?

When I went there, the person that captured me verified my NIN there. But I made sure everything on my passport tallied with what's on my NIN. As long as your NIN has same info with your passport (if you're doing renewal), you should be alright imho.

Good day! I completed the DIY process for my passport renewal and went for my biometric capturing on Friday, which was successful. That same evening, I checked the application status and saw that it had moved from "Ready for Enrollment" to "Production Queue (Passport production is in progress)." I continued monitoring the status through Sunday, and it remained at the Production Queue stage.

However, on Monday evening when I checked again, I noticed the status had reverted to "Application Received (Passport Office has confirmed receipt of your application)." I initially thought this was a glitch, but after checking on different devices, the status was still the same. It has remained unchanged from Monday until now.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? What could be the cause, and what steps should I take? I’m quite confused at this point.

Hi there, thanks you! And I hope yours is too.

As for payments, if you haven't already gotten answers, there are online payment options available such as card and bank transfer. For the documents, you need your current passport data page, your certificate of LGA origin, birth certificate from NPC if you meet certain criteria and any other passport you have. The process is designed to be as remote as possible, so the website will guide you through the entire process.

Hope you found answers already and if not, hope this helps 👍

Mine returned to normal after a few days. However it doesn't even matter what it shows. The people that captured me told me to come back after 3 weeks. Seems that tracking system is not that efficient yet.

I got my new passport exactly 3 weeks (plus a few days for safety) after my application process here. Smooth process, spent less than 8 mins at the collection area. This is good news, that we can have a fast and streamlined processes without relying on expensive facilitation fees paid to officials (the passport fee alone dey choke 🫠).

The main pain point where I think can be improved is the part were we need to upload a picture of ourselves. We don't end up using those pictures on our passports anyway as we'd be captured separately so it just seems like a waste of time having to go through all that complication. If it is just for verification, fintech apps can verify selfies against your recorded govt. IDs. Maybe that could be an option. Just my two cents for any official who may be reading this.

Thank you.

I applied for passport delivery. You think they will deliver in that 3 weeks time frame. Is there any line to call for follow up if it starts exceeding 4 weeks? Did my capturing on 4th of this month. Thank you.

I choosed Warri as my center but why am I directed to Asaba?
If only I got an answer to this, I wouldn't have wasted transport and my time.

First of all, the immigration office I know is in Asaba - Onitsha expressway and I went there but was told by drivers that there's no office there.

I was directed to Asaba - Ibusa expressway.

Newbies please note if your center address is in Asaba, the address is Asaba - Ibusa Expressway ( don't be confused).

So when I got there, I was ask who brought me which I replied no one , I'm DIY.

There were saying so I'm among those that want to stress them. I was taken to a office and was told to pay more for fast tracking which I told them I wouldn't be able to afford.

They collected my documents and I was told to wait outside.

Waited till almost everyone has gone, one of the officers ask for my name and started looking for my file. Later I was called into the office and was told that I'm at the wrong center.

The document showed Warri:Command Hqters, Ogwashiku Rd. Asaba

I argued that the document was showing Asaba but they brought someone's document to show me the difference.

My Center address is Warri and the Delta State immigration center is Asaba.

So I yours shows Asaba:Command Hqters, Ogwashiku Rd. Asaba , then your center is Asaba and if yours shows Warri:Command Hqters, Ogwashiku Rd. Asaba,, then your center is Warri.

Note the difference.

Also that address is supposed to be Asaba - Ibusa Expressway not Ogwashiku Rd, Asaba.

Mhennn I'm very angry right now.

So much for DIY.

Another option is, wait until the validity of your passport is 6 months and apply for a renewal.
Using an agent for passport applications can lead to several disadvantages, including potential for fraud, delays, errors, and increased costs.

If your Nigerian passport expires in less than six months, you should handle the renewal yourself rather than using an agent—hiring one is not a good idea.
