Hello Nairalanders,

As a Nigerian developer, I’ve been working on a portfolio of utility apps using Java/B4X. I wanted to share two of them that I think would be very useful for people in the Education and Business sections here.

1. Instant Results Math Solver: This isn't just a basic calculator. I built it to help students tackle complex problems quickly.

Features: Solves Polynomials from degree 2 to 10, Quadratic equations, and Simultaneous equations (Solving 2 to 10) equations at a time. No need of entering co-efficients, just enter your long equation direct as shown below and click solve or enter from draggable keyboard. You should get accurate result instantly.

Input: You can type using draggable keyboard or you can copy and paste equation from internet or elsewhere in acceptable format or use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to scan Image and extract equation or math expressions. You can also use OCR to scan PDF to extract equation or math expressions or just focus your phone camera on any object that contains equation or math expressions you want to capture and solve instantly.

Goal: To provide instant results for quick verification of homework.

Here is the Google Play Store Link that I need to push its final release as others are going through Google reviews right now:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skill.instantsolver

2. Talking Album Vault+ : This is a productivity vault designed to handle more than just "organizing or hiding photos." This app helps you organize your files into about 20 categories/folders like research, photo, family, video, audio, animation, PDF, html/txt, contact, calendar notes, pencil-sketch, favourite, architecture, Wallpaper, food, pet,friends, private, selfie etc.

Features: It has inbuilt video player, audio player and audio recorder. In each of the folder categories are common daily tools for your album. For example, in family or photo related categories, you can click just a button to remove image background. With a click, you can generate pencil sketch of your photo which you can share or save. You can generate black and white for your album photo, you can Enter Story Line for each of your album files with tts engine to narrate them for your friends or family once clicked.

With just a click, you can print you photo to PDF or printer as well as converting from jpg to PNG or Bmp or jpeg or Webp images just with one click. Each of the folder categories has their peculiar tools, In PDF folder, it has built-in PDF-to-Image extractor and can help you view/read your PDFs without having acrobat reader or any PDF viewer on your phone. It can zoom in or out so you can enjoying reading your PDF in this album. You can also extract text from PDF and many more fantastic features in PDF and other categories like audio, video, Wallpaper etc.

Unique Twist: It uses Text-to-Speech so the vault can "talk" or read out saved descriptions.

Here is the Google Play Store Link that I need to push its final release as others are going through Google reviews right now:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skill.albumvault

I am looking for "Beta Testers" here to tell me how the OCR in Instant Result Math Solver performs on different Nigerian textbooks and how the image background remover or pencil-sketching your album photo work for you.

Please let me know if you encounter any bugs or if there are specific math topics you want the solver to include or improve

Dear Developer,
I have been testing your app, specifically focusing on the Nigerian student user base and the creative photo tools. Here is my feedback and areas where I can assist in your improvement roadmap:
1. Math Solver & OCR (Nigerian Textbook Optimization):
Observation: The OCR is quite responsive, but it occasionally struggles with the print quality and dense formatting of popular Nigerian textbooks like New General Mathematics (NGM). Symbols in Calculus and complex fractions sometimes require multiple scans to register correctly.
How I can help: I can provide a "Dataset of Local Textbook Samples" (images of various equations from WAEC/NECO past questions and NGM books) to help you fine-tune the OCR’s recognition of local print styles.
2. Localized Math Topics:
Request: It would be highly beneficial to see more focus on Financial Mathematics (Simple/Compound Interest, Depreciation) and Longitude/Latitude calculations, as these are heavy components of the Nigerian secondary school curriculum (WAEC/JAMB).
How I can help: I can provide a list of the most frequent math topics found in West African exam syllabi to ensure your solver covers the "high-stakes" areas for local students.
3. Image Tools (Background Remover & Sketch):
Observation: The background remover is solid, but the Pencil Sketching feature could be improved for diverse skin tones to ensure facial features remain distinct in the sketch.
Bug Report: I noticed a slight frame-rate drop when applying the sketch filter to photos larger than 10MB.
How I can help: I can continue to stress-test these features using various lighting conditions and image sizes common on mid-range Android devices used in the region.
4. General UI/UX:
Observation: The "Instant Result" is great, but a "History" tab for solved problems would be a lifesaver for students revising for exams.
Feel free to reach out to me by sending me a pm.

Checked out your Instant Result Math Solver

My JS3 math teacher would always tell us "You cannot read Maths: it must pass through your fingers."

Your promise of "instant results" makes your brand sound like a cheating tool, and that limits your market. If you tweak your app to focus on how it clarifies the path to the answers, you can turn it into more of a private tutor.

And that would expand your market to include both teachers and parents. Students of all ages need more than just a quick answer; they need to see how it works so they can defend their answers.

Thank you so much @Mee346. I used best mlkit Google OCR algorithm for camera scan. First, when you SCAN; you may need to click on flash button to turn ON flash light when used especially if where you captured the text is not bright enough. Also, it targets only mathematical equations and expression covered in the app at moment. In the future, as more and more mathematical topics are added, more symbols or characters necessary for that math problems will be integrated.

At moment, if you click on polynomial and enter complex polynomial like this:

x¹⁰-55x⁹+1320x⁸-18150x⁷+157773x⁶-902055x⁵+3416930x⁴-8409500x³+12753576x²-10628640x+3628800=0

,and click solve button or click enter key from keyboard; it should give you correct answer. It can recognize superscript like x⁴ or x^4 or even x4 as power provided you are working under polynomial or quadratic equation.

Likewise, if you are solving simultaneous equations like 8 variables:

x + 2y - z + w + v - u + t - s = 8;
2x - y + 3z - 2w + v + u - t + s = 3;
x + y + z + w + v + u + t + s = 16;
3x - 2y + z - w - v + 2u + t - s = 6;
x + y - z + 2w + v - u + t + s = 11;
2x + 2y + z - w + v + u - 2t + s = 10;
x - y + z + w - v + u + t - s = 6;
x + y + z - w + v + u + t + s = 12

Just separate each equation with semi-colon as above except the last equation. Once you click solve, you should get correct answer as:

Ans: x =2.739130434782607,
y =3.5434782608695605,
z =1.4347826086956457,
w =1.9999999999999984,
v =-0.815217391304337,
u =2.0652173913043543,
t =2.7608695652173902and
s =2.271739130434781

If you approximate and substitute to the equation, you will confirm that the answers are very correct. You can start from the equation you know its answer to the complex one. Solution here will always be right for any equation you solve with it. This can solve up to 10 variable simultaneous equations and up to 10 polynomial degrees. I can improve it in the future even to 20, but no students or teachers handle such, and that is why I stopped at 10. Number base can handle up to 20 bases conversion instead of base 16 as maximum for many students and users

What I am saying in essence is that once more math topics are added in future, more character will be will be integrated based on your observations. However, this one focuses on equation covered in the app. If you need to extract text books, better wait for my "All-in-One OCRs/Barcode/QRcode/Doc Scanner", still under Google review. It uses even two powerful algorithms for camera based capturing. The focus area is large enough to capture entire book page unlike one small one reserved for only equation focus in this Instant Result Math Solver

On your second point, if you have downloaded and use, it has more topics than polynomial, quadratic and simultaneous equations, vector, number base etc. More topics will be captured in the future, but don't forget each topic required serious lengthy programming.

There is another app that is in progress to solve that issues and beyond focusing on solving problems in Nigeria universities across departments up to post graduate level, but that will be after finishing the one mean for WAEC/NECO/JAMB etc with ability to handle objective, theory and practical without struggling with images or other media. It has reached 75% stage, but I pushed it aside to finish multiple ones near completion and in Google review right now.

On the Talking Album Vault+, your observations and recommendations noted. I will continue to update in the future. I am happy because Google and admob approved them just once despite policies upon policies. So, I hope more in review including games will be approved anytime from tonight or early next week by God's Grace.

Thank you, for your feedback; I appreciate. Nairalanders, please help me download and use until it gains visibility status by Google robot to showcase them to the world. More are comming with Help.of God and I will pen down something to modify in future update from your observations.

For me, I have picked area to solve to help humanity; you go and solve the one you highlighted because mere mouth will not do it. If I solve and you solve, that is how we will make Nigeria great. Calling an app an instant solver does not make someone to cheat unless that person is a perpetual cheat. Many calculators are instant solver, yet schools and lecturers have rules and regulations that prevent students from bringing them to examination halls. Does that stop production of calculator or which of your calculator can solve this complex equation:

x¹⁰-55x⁹+1320x⁸-18150x⁷+157773x⁶-902055x⁵+3416930x⁴-8409500x³+12753576x²-10628640x+3628800=0

or

10 or 8 variables simultaneous like this:
x + 2y - z + w + v - u + t - s = 8;
2x - y + 3z - 2w + v + u - t + s = 3;
x + y + z + w + v + u + t + s = 16;
3x - 2y + z - w - v + 2u + t - s = 6;
x + y - z + 2w + v - u + t + s = 11;
2x + 2y + z - w + v + u - 2t + s = 10;
x - y + z + w - v + u + t - s = 6;
x + y + z - w + v + u + t + s = 12

just by clicking a Solve button without entering co-efficients? If you have, please bring them here and enter these equations to solve instantly without inputting any coefficients.

This app can help students and teacher cross check their works. You don't need to enter any coefficients here, just put the equation direct and click solve. If I show you the programming codes that make it possible to solve that problem alone not to talk of others like polynomial,vector, base number conversion up to base 20 instead of 16(hex) , then; you will know is not easy to just talk down that way about the name of the app.

Instant Result Math Solver app does not make you cheat, except the person has that cheating traits. In that case, school rules and examination bodies like WAEC or JAMB have rules that check mated that.

Anyway, I still thank you. If you don't need this, download that of "Talking Album Vault+" and make use of great tools embedded in it or wait for more of my app and games to use and download from next week as they pass Google reviews. Help us to grow, programming is not easy my brother not to talk of conquering admob and Google policies and strict rules. Help me tell your students to download not to cheat, but to always cross check their works.

More features and coverage will be added as next release progresses without affecting paid users. So therefore, therefore so;

Nairalanders, as you help bbnaija to get votes; please help me download and use until it gains visibility status by Google ai/robot to showcase them to the world.

Frankly speaking; before Google picks your app up to showcase to the world, small pushes (download and usages) are needed from people first, that is how google algorithm/robot is built because billions of apps exist in play store. More are comming with Help of God and I will pen down something from your observations,. criticism to modify in future update.

Thank you and sorry for oversight, I could have responded earlier. One thing I noticed over the years in play store and programming world at large is that while focusing time on utilizing materia design is good; I prefer focusing on prioritizing functionalities about material designs. Majority of successful apps out there in playstore or apple store prioritize on functionalities above other things.

Even nairaland is not the best GUI designed website, but far more successful than the fancies one. Most Google and other apps with millions and billions of downloads are not fancy, but get the work done because they prioritize on functionalities. Too much fancy can even kill the app or distract users. Average gui is ok, so far it gets work done.

However, as more releases come up in future; and core user feed back will make us to know where to utilize more material design. I know how to get it for use since I also have it in my portfolio right now and newer ones within my reach. Thank you, it will be in my planB if I receive any signal to do so; then, I will go for it. But most successful apps out there have average or a little above average interface to succeed so far functionality is greater
