The Lagos State commissioner for the environment tweeted about the public toilets that had been installed across Lagos and appealed to organisations like petrol stations and eateries to also open their toilets to members of the public.

Re: LASG Adopts Twitter User's Solution For Finding Public Toilets (Video & Photos) by naptu2(op):
A Twitter user responded that it's not only about creating public toilets, but how will members of the public know where they are and which public toilets are available and which are occupied.

He pitched a software that he and his partner had developed which tells members of the public where the public toilets are and which are free. This system is already being used at the University of Ibadan.

Dear Honorable Commissioner,
My name is Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki, and I am the founder of LooPoint which is a platform that helps individuals find clean and available public toilets in real-time, including availability, cleanliness ratings and walking directions.

I just came across this post regarding the 1,710 public toilets in Lagos and the request to businesses to open their toilets to the population, and I think LooPoint is a straight forward complement to this program.

It’s not just a matter of constructing toilets, but making, but making them findable. Currently, the greater part of the population and visitors of Lagos commot determine the closest public toilet, its status, or availability. LooPoint is the solution to this.

- We can map 1710 public toilets operated by the Lagos government, live status and rating on LooPoint.
- Businesses that are accessible rest room points include those that choose to be listed.
- Residents can use the platform without and having to download app on any device.

- The ministry also gains a data dashboard showing usage patterns, cleanliness feedback, and maintenance needs.
LooPoint is already live and working at the University of Ibadan campus.

Scalling to Lagos state is our next step and we’d love to do it in collaboration with the government rather than around it.

I would love to have a conversation at your convenience to explore what this could look like.
Kind regards
Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki

The special assistant on print media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Riddwan Ajetunmobi replied and invited the Twitter user to a meeting with the commissioner.

Aje @Riddwane

Dear Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki,

Thank you for showing interest in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s moves towards building cleaner Lagos and your support in protecting our environment.

I’m writing you regarding your post quoting the tweet of Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. @tokunbo_wahab, where he announced installation of modern public toilets across Lagos.

The Commissioner has asked me to reach out to you to discuss potential collaboration between your tech firm and the Lagos State Government. You are kindly invited to a meeting with the Commissioner this coming week.

You will have the opportunity to pitch your ideas to the Commissioner and relevant stakeholders in the Ministry, especially how you aim to provide real-time tech solutions that will ensure seamless public access to the installed public toilets.

I will send you further details via DM.

Thank you.

Re: LASG Adopts Twitter User's Solution For Finding Public Toilets (Video & Photos) by WizardOfNG:
Kudos to Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki for using his talent to provide solutions for society. Commendation too for Riddwane Ajetunmobi, Governor Sanwo Olu's Special Assistant, for formally reaching out to the young man to bring him and his solution on board.

If one hears this young man is a Senator or successful entrepreneur in future, it will not be a surprise because optimistic and positive people are always looking for solutions. Naturally, providing solutions makes one rich, successful and recognised in life.

Here, you don't need an app to tell you where toilet is. just walk into any pub, any restaurant, any take aways any bus station, etc and do the do

The Godfather JP @AyoOyalowo

The young men didn’t come online to curse out the commissioner, rather they saw a problem and proffered a workable solution and now they have an open door to actualize their dream.

This is what social media is supposed to be used for. Kudos to them and I wish them all the best

But the menace of open defecation is perpetuated mostly by miscreants , homeless people and touts with no access to smart phones or worse still don't know how to use one...how will this initiative benefit them.

Laudable indeed..
I hope it works in Lagos.
I don't know the rocket science behind making a state like Lagos clean.
The dirt, not only refuse dumps, but small clustered dirts everywhere including in those holes in front of bus stops scattered all over Lagos with different types of dirts including excreta, stuffed into them.
What stops govt paying people to keep these places and others clean ,making use of,not illiterate but real, young, serious, educated dirt managers. Not politicians who will collect the contracts, collect #50 per head but pay the workers #5 per head and they in return will end up sweeping sand from the main road leaving the real dirts.

Good question! Your concern is valid.

As I travel to work every day through the Third Mainland Bridge, I see them and their bum bum out, no shame!

Some people see impossible, negatives, etc and some people see challenges and solutions.

It's just the way of the world.

I can easily see the purpose of this solution (and it's already working at UI), but some people will never be able to see it, no matter what.

The mind you just quoted is an analytical one...you subject every proposal to critical anaysis ...that is how hypothesis graduates to theory.

What is the point of a failure comparing himself to another failure? To achieve what?

What is the business of Lagosians with Anambra state when they are not paying taxes to Anambra governor?

Should sensible Lagosians not ask what Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo Olu have done with their trillions budget every year, such that they failed to build enough public toilets to prevent open defecation? Do you know how many public toilets have been built since 1999 in Lagos?

What am I even saying, if the four governors failed to make ordinary water available to all households, they surely didn’t make public toilets available for everyone.

A 45-year-old resident and father of three, Mr.Fatai Lamide told PUNCH HealthWise that no building in the community has toilet facilities.

The Oyo State-born mechanic said, “We don’t have toilet in this area, including our compound. This canal that you see serves as toilet to all of us living in this area. We defecate inside nylon and throw it inside the canal.

“For people that don’t want to use nylon, they have a special bucket that they use after which they pour it inside the canal too.

Re: LASG Adopts Twitter User's Solution For Finding Public Toilets (Video & Photos) by naptu2(op):
The idea behind that solution is very obvious, but some people won't be able to see it no matter what.

It's very simple.

As I said, local governments provided a lot of "public" facilities during the Jakande era. There were public taps, public toilets, etc. However, the public toilets faced problems over the years.

Were they free? Were they clean? Were they safe? Etc. Some people would not use public toilets for these reasons, even if you paid them. All these occurred during the military era.

Since 1999 the Lagos State Government has tried to reintroduce public toilets. The Tinubu and Fashola administrations discarded the massive brick buildings that were used as public toilets during the Jakande era. Instead they opted for porta potty.

The present administration has introduced a new set of public toilets.

But people that use public toilets are usually already pressed. You need to know where the toilets are, you need to know whether they are clean and safe and you need to know whether they are free or occupied. So, for instance, a motorist can get all these information on his phone and head straight to the available toilet.

It's very simple really.

(But then again, we are in the S illy/election Season and you know what happens during this season).

You can not draw a straight analogy between an institution of higher learning as UI and Lagos state in general...the demographic paints a complete contrasting picture.

Open defecation does not happen in UI, The App is workable there because it allows educated people with smart phones to locate conveniences and clean ones in real time, conversely the case of Lagos state is different the targeted people are mostly homeless illiterates, touts and miscreants with no means of accessing the App.
Re: LASG Adopts Twitter User's Solution For Finding Public Toilets (Video & Photos) by Sheuns(m): 6:24am On Apr 21
There’s open defecation along the uncompleted blue line railway corridor from Mile 2 down to Alakija under bridge.

When will these toilets be installed along that corridor.

@naptu you can direct this to the govt. seems you are close to them.

People defecate daily along that rail path.

You also cannot tell me what I can or cannot do. I will do what I want to do and there's nothing you can do about that.

The funny guy is insinuating that there are no educated people in Lagos or that educated people in Lagos do not urinate or defecate in public.

Yet he wants me to take him seriously.

Can you imagine that?
