Abort the mission. Knee replacement surgery in Nigeria has low success rates. Only a few Nigerian orthopedic surgeons are skilled enough to perform it. If your mother does it, she may have difficulty walking for 12-36 months. In aboard, knee replacement surgery is usually computer aided.
Your mother is better off with platelet rich plasma or genticular nerve block (interventional radiologist or anesthesiologist or orthopedic surgeon would inject your mother's kneel with pain relief) both alternatives last 6-12 months. Platelet rich plasma is better than genticular nerve block in my opinion). NB: ideally the doctor performing these procedures are meant to be certified in pain relief/palliative care.
well abroad is also not guaranteed because I have a patient they did hers in UK 2 years ago now her both legs are stiff infact she has an appointment with the same hospital in UK next month. Tho she is on physiotherapy and acupuncture therapy presently in Nigeria just to help blood flow and muscle lighting

Is it the same arthritis?

What usually cause it?
EllySteve:
Abuja government hospital. That’s where my mom did both knees but different times. It takes time to heal but it went well.
Re: Where Can I Get Knee Replacement Surgery And What Is The Success Rate by Love800(m): 8:18pm On Apr 21
I use to stand in a static position 9hrs everyday at my place of work.

Will i get arthritis?
saintneo:
How old is your mum? What is her weight?

Arthritis is progressive disease but can be managed. It affect older folks mostly, but it can affect young folks too especially if they are overweight or over engage on activities (running, jogging, jumping, climbing) that affect the knee cartilage.

Usually the applied solution is knee management. Reduce weight, train the muscles around the knee.

For me, she should skip a meal to aid in her weight loss. Avoid constant moving around, so that the knee will not always remain inflamed. Finally, run from all the pain medication such as Diclofeniac, it numbs the pain and when the effect of the drug wears off, the pain comes back double; thus encoraging the user to continually take it.

In summary, if she can lose weight by skiping meals, reduce activities that hurt the knee, avoid dicofeniac; in three months the pain will reduce.

Medical research says suppliments don't help but the ones that contain glucosamine, chondroitin, omega-3 helps to lubricate the joints. This is my personal experience

What caused the arthritis pls?

And how can one avoid it?
Rayd502:
Only those that have arthritis can testify to the pain.I doubt if there is any ailment as painful as arthritis.

I started suffering from it from Nov 2025,I knew what my eyes saw.I couldnt go to work till April 2026.

I had multiple 'water knee' on both knees, fluid was expunged with needle syringe on occasions.

I was placed on powerful pain killers Eproxen 500,Aphamoral etc

I feared for my kidneys.

I couldnt walk nor drive and became bed ridden.

I thankGod as i have found my healing and i am hale and hearty now.

I pray your mum is healed too.

Please, my mother was diagnosed with arthritis. We were told that there is no cure for arthritis. An X-ray was carried out, and the doctor said the only solution for her is knee replacement surgery. I would like to know where this can be done in Nigeria and the success rate of the surgery.

It’s not only her knees that hurt; the pain spreads all over her legs. She has been taking pain relievers, but they only provide relief for a few minutes. It’s not that we have the money for the surgery, but we just want to try to contribute among our siblings because she calls us every day to complain about the pain.

Please, is there any alternative treatment to relieve her condition apart from surgery?
SaveALife Misson Hospital, is located in Port Harcourt. Na Private hospital o, e no cheap 😑

I know of John Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. That is where President Tinubu did his own.
That’s where my mum did hers but it’s very very expensive
Re: Where Can I Get Knee Replacement Surgery And What Is The Success Rate by delpee(f):
Orthopedic Hospital Igbobi is quite good though the private section is very expensive.

There's also a specialist from John Hopkins now resident in Lagos. He's Dr Julius Oni, an associate Professor and surgeon. His hospital is in VI.

However, sometimes knee replacement is not the solution. I used to have knee problems but it's no longer an issue. I didn't do any surgery. Just diet and therapies. Some Doctors may recommend surgery just for pecuniary gains.

Sorry about that. Try Dr J. Oni, an experienced orthopedic surgeon from John Hopkins. I've heard great reviews about him.

I know someone who did hers in Evercare hospital, VI. It was successful.

Cedarcrest Hospital Abuja does a good job in this aspect. Also ensure she goes for pre-op and post-op Physiotherapy (very important).

Then lastly seek 2nd opinion before going for surgery. Surgery is not always the only way out
please can you suggest an alternative for surgery

Well my wrtie up earlier points to how to manage the ailment - reduced weight and reduced activities that cause inflammation on the affected joint(s). She can fast and pray so as to keep her mind occupied and off the pain.

Nevertheless, if you possess the funds and patience, you can go for the surgery and the follow up physiotherapy sessions.
