Coastal road is should not be a high priority project, I'd rather say it should be done at slower pace while other higher priority issues are sorted out. Haba in your personal life, is it when business is slow, in debt, you are borrowing money up and down you then start building your office building and claiming it will generate revenue through eg rents or saying it will make you and your staff more comfortable? Or you cut expenses, save, clear your debt and when out of red and in green, then making profit you then decide to build the office complex or in the case of Nigeria, coastal road?
The problem we have as Nigerians is that all we want to see is road, bridge etc as signs of a government working. Yes I
it is good, but it must be done at the right time without plunging the state or country into chaos economically. Look at all the states, check you will see they are in debt, same with FGN. Only two ex governors are in record for not accumulating debt ie Peter Obi and Akinwumi ambode, go and check Anambra today, debt has started accumulating, same with Lagos despite all its trillion naira revenue.

If the first term had been used to sort out the economy then the path wil have been clear to do the cosmetics the second term. But now everything is threatened.

This is the time for him to bring his brilliance and years of experience to bear in managing the fiscal side of our economy. Let's see how he can manage the actual financial reality with political and citizens interest.

No matter how brilliant Taiwo Oyedele is he is not a magician.

If there is a funding gap in the budget there is little or nothing he can do about it...at some point he would have to prioritize payments.

Nigerian politicians should learn to focus more on efforts to improve revenue generation and stop blaming the Finance Minister for not releasing money that is not even available!

In October last year, reports surfaced online that Edun was seriously ill and had been flown abroad for emergency care, with Tinubu said to be shopping for his replacement.

I understand your point. But if Tinubu succumbs to the pressure of using agriculture as a revenue generator, it will lead to foreign investors trying to buy the land and it's mineral resources underneath at ridiculously low prices and a whole lotta complex problems will arise.

Agriculture should be at the hybrid (subsistence-commercial) level.

In solving one problem, we create complex problems.

Naira has never had it better, also never in the history of Nigeria as food commodities went down the way it did last year.. If contractors were paid over bloated project funds or when they are paid such.. The first thing they do is to change the naira value into dollars for vacation abroad, buy new cars, children school fees, buy apartments in London, UAE, Medical tourism all this are one of the reason Naira falls, but to keep the economy moving he prioritized.

Also a friend of mind who had a contract with one of the MDAs had payment issue

I am a contractor,I know he is focused on debt servicing but the president is applying for more money from the creditors so the situation is even more complicated..... That missing 1 trillion is more than enough to give the federal ministries and pay at least half the contractors.

I think squeezing the country to suck out funds for the two elephant project superhighways is a major factor. Something had to give. It's sad we're ruled by people who put politics above all else. Yes, Mr Edun did his best.

If he had his way, he would have cancelled many of these projects. He would have worked better under OBJ.

Yes, Lagos Calabar highway is a great idea but this just isnt the time considering how fragile the FG purse is presently.

I disagree respectfully. There has been several truthful and clean people with Tinubu. However no matter how truthful you are you cannot give ammunition to the enemies of your boss. If he says the country has zero inflation rate , you either collaborate it or ,to maintain your integrity , refuse to go public with the truth . Let the boss correct himself . Challenging your boss in front of others is a no-no. One of the rules of power .

Now that said , i personally do not think Taiwo good for the role . That guy is quite controversial.

i fully understand your view to be honest.. I knew what my friend went through to get his money just last month... The truth is no one trillion is missing.. We need our lawmakers and most people in government to know economics jargons.budget is not money at hand.. It's a planned expenditure based on projected revenue.. When government short fall of revenue in the USA they raise their debt ceiling.. In Nigeria we don't have that comfort of the green back been world currency.. So we borrow.. But servicing our debt is already a burden.
The so called missing 1trn naira never exit.. Government only less than what they projected and it was used on over heads than capital.
Sorry but I pray they get better with their economy management because non payments of contractors has its own drawback on the economy.. Most projects are currently on standstill.

Most of the loans were taken from the Obasanjo era to date. The present exchange rate simply pushed the Naira value of the debt up. In Dollar terms which is the real currency of repayment, Nigeria’s debt has actually reduced since Tinubu took over in 2023.

Actually, what we have is a revenue problem and not a spending problem. For a developing country with over 200million people, our revenue is grossly inadequate to push us to a developed country. To make matters worse, we have a huge population that thinks FG must give us everything for free without caring for who will pay. Free education, free health care, free electricity, subsidized PMS, fixed exchange rate, subsidized fertilizers, untolled federal highways etc. And despite this huge expectation of freebies, we don't want to pay commensurate taxes. Sorry buddy, spending is not our problem. We need to improve our revenue.

How can you say you have a revenue problem when your boss said he met revenue target at just above the half year cycle?
And why jump to blame Nigerians for your lying govt's inability to fund its own budget. Nigerians are not the only ones who demand quality of life from their govt.
The same govt that spent 39bn to renovate a building and removed one of the highest revenue generating outfit from the TSA us now crying off revenue problem

What can be drawn from the Edu issue:
PBAT can easily take any decision against anyone no matter how close you may be to him. It's the hallmark of a tough leader.

He's good at unearthing talents. For every position he has several quality but unknown replacements. That's what is working in Lagos. Apart from some of us that know Taiwo within the professional circle that he is brilliant he was little known nationally. Tinubu has unearthed him and brought him out to national limelight. They are many on the line. There are also the well known ones like Ben Akubueze resting and ready to be deployed.
