BREAKING: Solar panels now need PERMIT in Lagos! Nigerians react 👇

A viral video showed Lagos officials stopping a resident from installing solar, demanding approval and payment before he could proceed.

Now the government has spoken…

They say it’s TRUE - but only for those living in government-owned estates, where solar installation is now classified as “building alteration.”

But let’s be honest for a second 👇

In a country where:
⚡ Light is unstable
⚡ Fuel is expensive
⚡ Generator costs are unbearable

People are turning to solar just to survive…

And the response is PERMIT and FEES?

Even more confusing — Lagos is pushing for mass solar adoption, yet at the same time creating policies that may slow people down.

So what exactly is the goal here?

Safety and regulation… or another layer of control?

Because to many Nigerians, this feels like:

👉 Punishing people for trying to solve their own electricity problem.

Let’s talk 👇
Do you support this policy, or is it another burden on citizens?

Not true. The permit is only necessary when installing Solar systems on government properties including government estates. It doesn't extend to private properties.

LASG has refuted this claimed that the permit is meant for Lagos State estates like Agege low cost house and other lagos owned estate.

APC is a political party that was created by a set of shylocks whose total orientation towards contemporary governance is deeply rooted in the primordial "TAX and SPEND" culture of some ancient Kingdom in Nigeria.
It is the culture, stewpid!

Whenever we try to draw the attention of the general Nigerian public to this anomaly, we are branded as ethnic champions. But the fact will always hunt reality. Everyone is a product of his or her immediate cultural environment, so are APC adherents..

Some people were raised under a primordial cultural environment where the "kabiyesi" or the "sultan", the "emir" or the "oba", is always stretching his hands for more taxes, more gifts and more donations from his totally traumatised people.

When folks from his kind of environment find themselves in modern executive mansions as rulers, they start to feel and act like the new "kabiyesis/Obas/Sultans/Emirs"! Albeit, unconsciously. They will tax you to death if you don't shout..

To them it is normal.
Subjects have to pay taxes and then bow sheepishly to the feet of their traditional stools. That's how it was/is done in their ethnic enclaves, so they too as the new overlords expect same feom the teoubled masses...

APC as a political movement is unhinged! They will tax everything if you allow them. It may sound like a hyperbole, but these confused bunch are ready to tax the air we breath if we allow them..

Lagos is run on the 'Agbero model of governance'.

A riff-raff who has no clue how you survive in the difficult economic milieu, but thinks he is entitled to a chunk of every money that enters your pocket.

This is the kind of mentality that lagos has institutionalized with their Agberoistic manners and methodology of governance.

They have taken the mentality to Abuja to infect the entire country with that scourge, but come 2027, Nigerians will kick them to curb. Insha Allah..

Is this why we have the GAC ?

This is ridiculous. They should be advising the governor actively not just sitting around calling themselves GAC.

Next will be your borehole if this is allowed to pass

The information has since been debunked. The permit is only meant for people resident in Lagos State - owned estates.

Why tho?
Why tax and permit to use household solar?
What about generators, maybe power bank also, and Rechargeable bulbs would also be taxed and licensed.

Solar isn't a permanent structure.
It does not alter the infrastructure...so what exactly is government's concern?

So, you want occupiers of the government- owned building to put a structure without any control?
In my neighbohood here in Lagos,Solar installation has repeatedly interfered with electrical connections ,thereby causing blackout. NEPA official have complained severally about this. In my own view,Lagos State government has done the right thing

I support it because it only affects those living in government owned properties. No landlord will allow a tenant to install solar panels on his roof without his approval, thats same here.

What happens when the tenant moves and removes his solar panels? The roof begins to leak when it rains and the landlord bears losses from that.

Thats the situation here with Lagos state government. If you want to install solar panels in its properties, then make an agreement, pay upfront charges and use your panels. Otherwise, become a landlord, use your panels and you wont be charged. Period.

I think it has to do with the security of the property concern, where every dick and harry are installing solar panels in their residence. In case of malfunction and error of the installation and there's fire outbreak who will be responsible for it? Before installation there would be agreement between the tenants and the state incase of eventuality.

The permit may not be about revenue. In my neighbourhood, our community association pays special attention to those that have solar panel installed. The installation, lf not properly done disrupts electricity. So,you expect govt to fold its arm and allow anyhow installation?
