Nigeria and Turkey have officially signed a defense cooperation agreement to establish a major military training facility on Nigerian soil.
On the surface, it sounds strategic: counterterrorism training, drone technology, intelligence sharing.
But let's ask the questions no one in Aso Rock wants answered.

🤔 WHY TURKEY? WHY NOW?
Just months ago, muslim groups in Northern Nigeria vehemently rejected a proposed U.S. military base, citing concerns over foreign interference and alleged CIA links to extremist actors.
Yet suddenly, a Turkish military presence is being welcomed with open arms.
Coincidence? Or calculation?

LET'S BEAM THE LIGHT ON TURKEY'S RECORD

History doesn't forget.

During the height of ISIS under al-Baghdadi, multiple investigative reports and leaked footage raised serious questions about Turkish territory being used as a transit route for oil tankers moving from ISIS-held areas in Syria.
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad publicly accused Turkey of supporting terrorist factions operating in Syria—a tension that defined Ankara-Damascus relations for years, until Assad was removed by a Turkish sponsored terrorist groups.
Whether you view these as proven facts or contested allegations, one thing is clear: Turkey's regional so called security is to further an Islamic agenda with no clear pattern.

THE 2027 ELECTORAL CALCULUS

Let's be honest about Nigerian politics.

The timing of this agreement—announced during President Tinubu's state visit to Ankara raises eyebrows. With elections on the horizon, this defense deal is not about national security? it is a strategic way of appealing to the Muslims north for vote, GUMI repeatedly told the federal govt to bring in Turkish troops instead of America, unfortunately, the president now take directives from GUMI, all in the name of winning the Muslim votes.

THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE TURKISH BASE ON CHRISTIANS IN THE NORTH AND MIDDLE BELT?

This is where silence becomes complicity.

For years, Christian communities in Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt have faced targeted violence—farmers displaced, churches burned, families living in fear.

If the Turkish military base is introduced without clear, enforceable safeguards for all Nigerians—regardless of faith—it risks deepening existing tensions rather than resolving them.

Turkey often align with it Muslims brothers, we've seen it through their rhetorics and other campaigns, this could be a clear attempt to wipe out non Muslims from the middle belt.

TINUBU IS PLAYING WITH FIRE

I'll say it plainly: Desperation for the northern Muslim votes is driving the president out of control and has cloud his ability to reason.
Placating people religious extremes is Tantamount to putting your hands in a fire.

FINAL THOUGHT
Nigeria doesn't need foreign bases. We need homegrown security solutions to tackle our terrorism. If turkey wants to help, it should be limited to surveillance and drone training, NOT TO BUILD A BASE.

That's why I believe this country will never work. A simple solution that will work for any country will not work for Nigeria.

As a Northern Muslim I am seeing little to no benefit as Nigeria being one country.

Northerners are better before one Nigeria, they are better when they have a single system and a single decision making.

Is merging North with the South a backwardness to the North itself?

As Iran's finger in Nigeria has unequivocally been decimated, their quick strategy is this strange alliance after Trumps interest in Nigerian Christians. The Leadership of the Church in Nigeria must identify these schemes and resist it. Christians in Nigeria must with one voice resist a Turkish military base in Nigeria. Constantinople in the time of the Apostle Paul fell and it is modern day Turkey today, a branch of the Muslim brotherhood.
