DIC Bees. A great team of the 80s when they were owned by the Defence Industrial Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). Won the WAFU cup at their height. Had great players like Ayo Ogunlana and keeper Razak Olatunji the penalty stopper. Then fell off the radar. |

There’s a certain kind of legacy that isn’t inherited through wealth or title, but through discipline, intellect, and a deeply rooted sense of purpose. In the story of Nasir El-Rufai and his son Bello El-Rufai, that legacy is unmistakable—alive, evolving, and now making its mark in an entirely new arena. For eight defining years, Nasir El-Rufai stood at the helm of leadership with a reputation shaped by bold decisions, intellectual rigor, and political dexterity. His tenure was not merely about governance; it was a masterclass in strategic thinking and fearless execution. These are qualities that cannot be taught in classrooms alone—they are observed, absorbed, and ultimately embodied. Bello El-Rufai represents the next chapter of that lineage. Emerging not just as a beneficiary of a prominent name, but as a figure of substance in his own right, he has begun to carve a distinct identity grounded in the same sharp acumen and unyielding resolve that defined his father. His election as a federal representative is only one dimension of a broader narrative—one that speaks to vision, courage, and transformative leadership. Nowhere is this more evident than in his involvement with a once-forgotten football club—a team that had languished in obscurity for nearly two decades, buried deep in the lowest tier of the nation’s league system. For 18 years, hope was a distant memory. Structure had eroded, ambition had faded, and relevance seemed permanently out of reach. But transformation often begins with belief. When Bello Elrufai stepped into the fold, he brought more than investment—he brought intent. With a strategic mind and a refusal to accept mediocrity, he helped reimagine the club’s future from its very foundation. In Bello El-Rufai, we witness more than ambition—we witness continuity. A seamless fusion of inherited intellect and self-earned credibility. His journey, especially in revitalizing a struggling football institution, stands as a compelling reminder that leadership is not confined to politics or boardrooms; it thrives wherever vision meets action. And perhaps most importantly, it shows that while legacy may open doors, it is character, competence, and conviction that truly define what comes next. Give Credit to Bello Elrufai. |

guobe:This is massive. Congrats to the new and its new owners. Rep. Bello El Rufai needs to lobby his fellow lawmakers to amend relevant laws to privatise the League Management and encourage other historical legacy football clubs like Rangers, Shooting Stars, Bendel Insurance etc to be privatised for the full socioeconomic benefit derivable. anonimi: |

| Re: Ranchers Bees Promoted To The NPFL After 18 Years by stagger: 3:58pm On Apr 24 |
trappatoni:The replay format was intact then. Abiola Babes had Rashid Yekini, while the Bees had Ayo Ogunlana. First match ended 1-1, where keeper Daniel Abdullahi of Ranchers Bees conceded a howler of a goal. He was replaced with second choice Abdulrazak Olatunji who proved to be the star of the final. Then we had the replay. Yekini struck first. Ogunlana equalized for the Bees. Match went to penalties. Both teams missed the first two each, with Razak Olatunji saving Yekini's penalty (the only recorded penalty miss by Yekini in his career). Eventually, Abiola Babes scored the remaining three penalties, and Joseph Johnson missed the Bees' final spot kick to seal victory for MKO Abiola's team. THE CONTROVERSY At that time, the last team to win the Challenge Cup from the North was Kano Pillars and that was in 1953! So going into this final, it had been 34 years a team from the North won. Mighty Jets, Racca Rovers and DIC Bees (now Ranchers Bees) had all reached the final, and faltered. So many had thought that the Ranchers Bees would win as they had a star-studded line up. But what played out in the penalty shootout had tongues wagging. All the penalty takers who missed for Ranchers were all southerners. The Northern PK takers scored. So did the southern guys in Ranchers Bees throw the match? That question never got answered. It took BCC Lions under Shuaibu Amodu to break the Northern jinx over the FA Cup in 1989. That team of his featuring late Capt Alumun Aule, Late John Zaki, Humphrey Jebba, late Amir Angwe, Edema Fuludu, Benedict Ugwu, Moses Kpakor, late Terfa Kpakor and others, later won the African Cup Winners Cup the next year and reached the final in 1991. |

nairalanda1: trappatoni:Ok. I only got to know them when they got promoted to the NPFL in the 2000s and relegated again after about 2 years there. They now have sponsors, they might bring back their glory days. I long to see the days when our local league teams can hold their own on the continental stage like Enyimba, Dolphins and Enugu Rangers of those days |
