yes it is a tool of death and of destruction of sin/criminals. That is why when you look onto the cross, all your sins are forgiven and you become a new man as Jesus being the son of God came down and though sinless, was nailed to the same cross for atonement of our sins and as an ultimate sacrifice for mankind.
