Do you Nigerians have d Common sense at all? What do you need those big cars for? Why do you people like waste? You don't need to waste your money on big expensive cars, most of you don't have steady income but you want a big car. Well you are free to buy but you will pay heavily this time around. Cars are not investment but pure waste of money on something that has no value |

This clown knows how to emulate the tax system of advanced nations, but doesn't know how to adopt their accountability, simplicity and integrity in governance. |

discusant:Not every working European can afford the price of petrol, I'd know this after spending 3/4 of my life in Europe some 3 decades now. There has been protests in many European countries recently over the petrol prices, the yellow vest protests have been ongoing in France going multiple years now. Right through the fuel crisis in the 70s there were disruptions so pls cute yourself in of the ignorance. Most people in Europe live just above the nominal poverty line, there has been vast inflation and cost of living crisis is very real in many countries around Europe, through the 2008 recession there were a lot of suicides because people just couldn't sustain the realities that their lives were falling before their eyes. |

Hez143:Saner climes collect different more taxes than what we have in Nigeria but at least, they are used judiciously.USA collect more than 800 different taxes. Nigeria is one of the nations that do not collect enough tax in the world and the little they collect go into private pockets...mostly the street levies. This is the first time that I think the tax is being used for the benefit of the masses than previous govts, not ruling out corruption because no govt is perfect. |

| Re: FG Introduces Green Tax On Vehicles From July 1, 2026 by jahbenedict: 4:55pm On Apr 26 |
This is very insensitive and should not be implemented at all. There is already a 5% fossil fuel tax on every liter of fuel we buy (Not sure if they have started collecting it). Now this 2% green tax on a 2 liter (2000cc) engine, which sadly most sedan and SUVs fall under. So on top of the import duty you pay for the vehicle, you have to add 2% - 4%. If the government wants to raise revenue, let them first plug all the leakages, eliminate waste, and encourage production. What happened to enforcing the penalties on gas flaring? Why wouldn't they make it a priority, if they so much care about our environment. |

Goldforever:This tax is not on 'big cars' only. Most of the regular cars we drive in Nigeria are 2L (2000cc) and above. Why wouldn't we buy cars? Do we have any reliable public transit? The government has failed to provide the basic necessities for the citizens, when we try to fend for ourselves they come after the little income we make. What an insensitive government. |

Image123:It concerns the 'poor man' because the government keeps placing the cart before the horse. Has the government tackled the revenue leakages and revenue mismanagement at Customs? We are creating more avenues for revenue collection that will end up in the wrong accounts/pockets. Has our domestic car production increased? Has public transit improved? Nigerians depend on imported cars not because we want to, but becasue we have little to no other options. Making the cost exorbitant will have a trickle down effect on the economy. Shey, they reduced import duty from 70% to 40%, now they are indirectly increasing it to 45% for a majority of vehicles. All these policies that they announce today, and tomorrow they cancel and introduce another one is not good for investor confidence and business planning. |

Cmanforall:Individuals pay carbon indirectly. This emission tax, who is going to pay it? Emission tax for vehicles is a consumption tax, so individuals are going to pay it. |

Image123:Master, lemme call u by what u r, cos i believe u still a toddler. Those who import that heavy duty trucks, they factor in these duties and spread it around their services charge. So this additional tax will be added to the already bogus service charges which inturn will increase the prices of goods n services across board. Whether u have a truck or not, at the end spiral effect of this tax will affect you and those very poor u r mocking. |

Afrojuju2017:Since it is done in normal countries, let the government approve and pay wages commensurate with those normal countries. Average minimum wage in Europe is €1000 p/m, that is about N1,500,000. When the government in nigeria begins paying its workers that amount as minimum wage, then your opinion might begin to make sense. |
| Re: FG Introduces Green Tax On Vehicles From July 1, 2026 by Afrojuju2017(m): 7:04pm On Apr 26 |
1vandragon:I'm not averse to the idea of increase in living wages of the common plebeians in Nigeria, please note I am not using the term or idea of a minimum wage. In Europe I noticed you used ten term average, but when individuals discuss wages in European Union which is a peculiar organisation in terms of trade, movement of individuals across a vast range of nations with different languages, economic realities and social standards their is a failure ti articulate the deviation across those areas. The standard of living on Europe across localities ,regions and countries is wild for instance the living standards and conditions in Basque country in Spain can be wildly different from other areas such as Catalunya, in Italy living conditions on parts of Sicily can be contrasted against metropolitan areas such Time and Madrid. Portugal is vastly different to France Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway Belgium etc That is why Europe is very tricky subject but one thing that is common across all these states as agreed at the European legislative assembly is taxation standards and common interests policies, te EU dictate everything in its member and observer nations the lost important being interest rates, each nation has its central bank which is in turn regulated by the EU central bank. So you see that real governance is no child's play, and its time Nigeria drop the kiddie toys and stand up to be counted, the years of populist policies that undermine the same population in the long run should end forthwith. Margaret Thatcher fought the unions, snatched free milk from the poor kids in school but the years free we saw rapid middle and upper class growth, many people who were willing to graft also gt pulled up in the tide the lazy unfortunately sank. |
