but what exactly is driving cost of rents in Abijan and Accra.. It's insane.. But actually Lagos, Abuja and some part of the one or two cities in the southeast actually need urgent mass housing scheme.. I know government moved away from those kind of project because alot of rich people are always at the end of the day the landlord.. I think a method should be in place.. If you are not living there you can't pay rent or own it.

Visit Lagos State censor board. A research in 2024 says over 8 million come to Lagos daily via air, road, sea and through the borders from neighboring countries, the report did state the % that stay and do not return to their base. I bet you over 500,000 never return back to their base.

have been to Abuja and Accra before I can't see any reason any house in legon or those diplomatic areas in Abijan should be much more expensive than those in banana Island just doesn't make sense albeit Lagos has much more modern houses than this west African cities houses no play.. Even houses in Guzape Abuja beats down theses places cos av been there before stayed couple of months.. Moved around..

Even if you read what you copied from Ai Google up there it's explaining that it's majorly dues to lack of more land and more luxury houses available to the expat communities.. Who themselves have reduces their staffs in most of this international organization because of Trump.. EU, AU most other international organizations have reduced their staff strength by atleast 30%.since last years AU and WHO most hit.. Up to 40% staff reduction.

Landlords have to also pay taxes...I believe that house owners pay special tax, mortgages on the house and so forth

When the government have chosen to be irresponsible, and citizens do almost everything for themselves themselves.
In Lagos, most tertiary institutions don't even have hostels that can house up to 20% of their students, e.g is unilag.

Government that can't build enough hostels, how will they even build enough staff quarters, not to talk of other civil servants staff quarters and the general population.

Around unilag, a student will be paying 300k to 800k for a bed space.
Note, I didn't say a single room. I said BED SPACE.
Many of the single rooms will have between 2-4 bed spaces.
That's like paying 600k to 3Million naira for a room.

Government stopped building staff housing nearly 2 decades ago

Even back during the golden age of university staff quarters, speaking as someone whose pater was a lecturer, by the eighties they were telling staff to pay for the maintenance of the house , while deducting rent from the salary, lol.
