‘Nigeria Has Happened To Me’: Grieving Mother Of NYSC Member Killed In Abuja Crossfire Cries Out For Justice

The distraught mother of the serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abdulsamad Jamiu, killed during a crossfire between troops of the Guards Brigade and suspected armed robbers who attacked Shagari Estate in Dei-Dei area of Abuja, has cried out for justice for her son.

In a heartbreaking video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Abuja PR, the distraught woman is seen weeping uncontrollably as she lamented the tragic loss of her son.

“Here we are today, Nigeria has happened to me. I need justice, please. They killed him. They came for him,” she cried in anguish.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the deadly incident, which has sparked outrage among residents and social media users, occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 25, 2026, when residents of the estate were thrown into panic following an armed robbery operation that prompted a swift military response.

Reacting to the incident on Sunday, the Headquarters Guards Brigade expressed deep regret over the death of the corps member, describing the development as tragic and heartbreaking.

In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola, the Headquarters Guards Brigade extended condolences to the family of the deceased, NYSC, and others affected by the painful loss.

“We share in their grief and stand in solidarity with them during this moment of profound sorrow,” Odunola added.

The Brigade also confirmed that a full investigation had been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring the public of transparency.

It disclosed that the remains of the deceased had been handed over to the appropriate authorities and deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.

Reaffirming its commitment to security, the Guards Brigade stressed that it would continue to refine its operations to ensure civilian safety while combating criminal elements.

“Guards Brigade affirms its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.

“We will continue to review our operational procedures to further enhance civilian safety, even as our troops confront criminal elements who threaten the peace of our communities,” the statement said.

The Brigade also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

Yes, they killed him in cold blood!!! The authorities should be interrogating the soldiers and asking them why they murdered this young man because with all the evidence we have seen, they definitely killed that young man with an ulterior motive. The soldiers must answer for this!!

Foolish soldiers, when have soldiers start responding to robbery cases, they went for illegal duty and it backfired. Climbing fence to go kill a youth when bandits are killing you people

There is no justice in Nigeria, even a poor man can kill you and go Scot free.

How can one avoid Nigeria ? Even in trying to avoid it you may meet your Waterloo since non place is safe for a common man. Not even an animal is safe.

Those in aso rock are partakers of all these nonsense. I believe that once you have become a politician you are automatically a murderer whether you have good intentions or not.

If it was a good government in power by now those soldiers would have been arrested but what do we see?excuses from the military saying it was an armed robbery incident and he was caught in the crossfire.. lol caught in crossfire inside his room?I saw the video the robbers called soldiers jumped the barbed wired fence to break TWO DOORS and went to his room and shot through his door multiple times and the bullet holes are glaring through the door and his skull was hit and shattered and they tried to clean up the mess but couldn’t do a good job..

Another Corper was killed in Benue for mistaken identity by vigilante boys.

Their argument was that,he stole a machine but investigation reveals that he wasn't the one.

If you know how many "everyday" Nigerians walk freely with blood on their hands, you go fear to talk to people. Those Aluu people even record their own killing and nothing do them.
