Where you're born in Nigeria almost predicts how many siblings you'll have. 7.5 vs 2.9, same country, completely different realities.
Nigeria's fertility gap is wider than most people realize. Which factor do you think matters most?

If Nigeria does not look for a way to put population growth in check, forget development because no matter the rate of development, population pressure will keep making it insignificant.

We need to legalise abortion and return capital punishment.

In the next 10 years as Nigeria is going, the highest will be 2.9 and the lowest will be 1. Meaning that the future of the nation will not allow people to want to raise more than one child while many will never ever get married.

If govt says pim, religion leaders from both sides will bring war and political enermy will join them turning it main context in next election to push out the govt. Most especially our people from desert region.

One of the reasons I always say military rule still remains one of our most feasible solutions. Either that or regional government with every region having its own constitution and legal system.

Democracy is not effective in dealing with Nigeria's problems. People have weaponised religion and tradition to favor their greed and selfishness and only forceful state intervention can curb that nonsense.

I'm not surprised about Lagos data, how will a woman be fertile when she is already on the road before 5 in the morning and enter house 11 in the night, spending the day jumping from one vehicle to the other or be under sun through out just to make money.
Re: Yobe Recorded Nigeria’s Highest Fertility Rate At 7.5 Births Per Woman by energy37: 3:46pm On Apr 29
That's for people in the Southern part of the country. Northerners do not understand child bearing control. They do not do family planning and the poorest among them produce more children. One of my junior colleagues from Kano is 29 years, a Masters Degree holder and hee has three wives and seven children already.

It is a known scientific fact that birth rate inversely correlates with level of education.

If they can can be catered for, having children is a good decision.

Europe and Asian countriea are opening up to mass migration because of low birth rates which is a major existential and economic threat to such countries.

The statistic for Benue State is not correct. It's average of 5 Children per woman.

Using the word fertility is wrong though. Southern women can give birth up to 9 kids but cost of feeding & training them up to University level is what is restricting them to fewer children.
