The only thing that is usually somehow unique to tribes are the names and accent.

If there is anything I want to change about my people, it is our geographical location: I hate the fact we are bordered by the Yoruba race in the west. The other people I have boundaries with - Itshekiri, Ijaw, Anioma (Igbo), etc, are cool people.

Your land is well defined with borders and it can not be taken from you but why do you hate the fact you share border with the Yoruba? And why are the Yoruba not cool people?

I am edo central, uromi, all of us are the same , we all came and are all descendants of the great Benin kingdom

Anyone knows where or how I can trace my Benin root? My parents died when I was about 9 yrs of age, that was around 1999. My mum's family were the ones to come to us first and took us to Rivers State, changed our surname to theirs.

I know how my real surname is pronounced but I have forgotten the real spelling. And I believe knowing the real spelling would be a starting point in helping me locate my root.

No uncles , aunts to ask?

My mother-in-law always cracks me up whenever she speaks; her thick Benin accent is so funny.


My wife’s accent isn’t too pronounced, but whenever she wants to tease me, she deliberately pronounces some words the Benin way. She knows I’ll react ----once I give her a bombastic side-eye, she laughs and corrects herself immediately.

The old Benin city was Yoruba but the present one is not. That is where the confusion comes from. Your ancestors did not live inside the old Benin city

I disagree with point 2 and 4, having lived amongst them.

In place of quiet confidence, I'd rather say they have loud confidence.

They waste no time in boasting about their achievements or capabilities.

An average Edo man's defense is attack.

Then for pepper, my experience is rather oil.

Their food is spicy but nothing compared to the the Yorubas. But oil, leave it for them.

If oil is not covering and sitting atop the melon or ogbolo or black soup, Edo man is not satisfied.

Ahhh we are not always like that nau. Some Edo girls can be razz sha but a few of us are relatively cool headed
