My mother-in-law always cracks me up whenever she speaks; her thick Benin accent is so funny. My wife’s accent isn’t too pronounced, but whenever she wants to tease me, she deliberately pronounces some words the Benin way. She knows I’ll react ----once I give her a bombastic side-eye, she laughs and corrects herself immediately. |

Osariemen12:The old Benin city was Yoruba but the present one is not. That is where the confusion comes from. Your ancestors did not live inside the old Benin city |

cityboylagos:I disagree with point 2 and 4, having lived amongst them. In place of quiet confidence, I'd rather say they have loud confidence. They waste no time in boasting about their achievements or capabilities. An average Edo man's defense is attack. Then for pepper, my experience is rather oil. Their food is spicy but nothing compared to the the Yorubas. But oil, leave it for them. If oil is not covering and sitting atop the melon or ogbolo or black soup, Edo man is not satisfied. Every other point is on point! |
