Most Edo people no sabi edit their words, vulgar nor dey their dictionary. For example, Edo person nor mind to call toto or prick no matter who de listen. They no send your papa. My Edo friend swear say if him pronounce letter 'N' make Ogun kill am. You go hear ... Moday, Eglish, (Monday, English). Most of them get lyrics and jokes, mostly jolly good fellows. But their women? Nor put body o!

Just spell it anyhow, I will give you the correct spelling. Why not ask your mother's sisters or siblings about the village your father is from , I can help you go to the village or quarter and trace it. But you will need to pay for transportation to the areas. Try spelling it lets see.
Aiyenoria. This is the closest I can remember us spelling it. It was just I and my younger brother who was 7 at the time. For mother's siblings, they all claim to not know anything about my dad. And I can't keep pestering them.

Edo women generally
I assume you're learned. Unless you've surveyed women in Edo, don't make fake claims.

Imagine assuming that most people called Juliette generally have an IQ that has sunk deeper than the Mariana Trench.

"We don't remember that which is bitter" - Aiyenoria.

Could actually mean something else if the spelling is different.

This sounds like an Esan name. It will be very difficult to locate, if one has to go to one if the Esan villages.

They all are saying they don't know. I don't know if they're feigning ignorance or they truly do not know.

Or maybe they don't want us to find our father's people.

I've even tried going to the school in Lagos where I did a few days in JSS1 b4 my parents passed but they said they couldn't help since I didn't even do my Junior WAEC there, let alone SSCE.

The nursery school we attended then, I've searched for it online, no records of it.
Difficult experience. I sincerely hope you get answers soon. If they he was Benin, try some Benin online platforms. But they will need you to answer questions which seems like you don't have the answers. Example is in Benin the family name can be used to trace a person

You have to stop intimidating her and allow her to feel free.
I’m not entirely serious about it, and she knows that.

That’s why she always laughs whenever I look at her. Sometimes I let her speak English with a Benin accent, but my concern is that our daughter might start copying it later ----especially now that she’s just learning to talk.

I don’t really have a problem with accents because every tribe has its own. What I'm not comfortable with is the way some words are pronounced in the Benin accent --- it doesn’t quite align with standard English.

Edokpolor school, Igbinedion University and Doris Day hotel are my memories. I also did small business with Bini guys. If you want to make them happy just say Obaghatokpereise.

What's the difference between their pidgin and warri pidgin
The difference is not that much but their accent plus the pidgin makes it special and rugged.

Though one Benin guy told me that for Nigeria warri no dey carry last for pidgin no state or tribe see their back, then followed by Benin own.

10. Names That Carry Weight

Names like Osas, Osaze, Igbinoba, Omoregie… these aren’t just names—they tell stories.
Most Edo names are tied to God, royalty, or destiny.

Identifying an Edo person isn’t just about accent or food—it’s about presence. It’s culture, pride, resilience, and a little bit of “no nonsense” attitude.

They’re rooted in history, shaped by hustle, and powered by personality.

And if you still can’t identify one?
Just wait till food, culture, or respect topic enter conversation…

grin cheesy

Their names carry 100kg weight no be small, you go dey hear Osakpolor, Obahiagbon, Okunghae, Uwese, Osaretin, Imiavian, Osasere, Omoruyi, Otiku, Ikede, Akhigbe, e.t.c

I sha miss Ekosodin and their girls a whole lot. I will go back there cos I still have scores to settle.
At the bolded amongst those Edo names you've listed is my native name meaning God is great. Kudos to you for this man!🤙😊

Osariemen12:
Many of them ignorantly refer to us as Yoruba.
An ignorant and uneducated Yoruba person is more likely to regard you as Omo Ibo than see you as a Yoruba. Those of them who argue that Edo people are Yorubas do so not out of genuine ignorance of the uniqueness of Edo but due to political expansionism quest. And such are very few. The average uneducated Yoruba person believes that if you are not Yoruba or Hausa, then you are automatically an Igbo person.

Yes. We are unique, and we are among the best set of people in this world. Love us or hate us, we go for what is right.

If there is anything I want to change about my people, it is our geographical location: I hate the fact we are bordered by the Yoruba race in the west. The other people I have boundaries with - Itshekiri, Ijaw, Anioma (Igbo), etc, are cool people.
You should be grateful to have yorubas as neighbours. What is the issue though ?
