Yes but u must be ready to learn aside what they are teaching u
What they will teach u in school, u will never use it to work anywhere because they are all outdated

I can't remember when I saw an Engineering vacancy specifically asking for computer engineer degree.
It would likely be advertised as a job for Electrical/Electronics Engineers.

For a standard organization, ATS filter would likely screen you out, even before you make it to an interview.
Let me educate others, if you may.

First, every graduate has to think big and global.

Your phone is a computer.

Electric cars are computers.

Robots are powered by a single brain box z guess what it is?

Bingo.

If you would elevate your mind, you'll understand what I'm saying.

Goodvibes007:
Yeah. My colleagues working in Samsung and AMD hold degrees in Electrical/Electronics not Computer Engineering.

My point is that you don't need a degree in computer engineering to work as a computer engineer.

Go for a more general course that makes you more versatile and open more doors of opportunities. Don't narrow yourself to computer engineering from the get go, which some universities even still classify as a course under Elect/Elct.
Nobody is going to rule you out because you studied "computer engineering ".

So, who would manage cloud infrastructure?

huh
How many cloud providers have their datacenters in Nigeria?

You are not getting it still.

Petroleum Engr is a course of study under Chemical ne lingering

Transport, Municipal, structural, Environmental engr. Etc. Are course under civil engineering.

Network engr., computer engr, T&Distribution, Micro electronics e.t.c are course under Electrical Electronics.

Why narrow yourself from a BSc degree when you can get a more versatile course like Elect, then do a Masters in computer if that is what you love.

Anyway, I am returning to work.

Goodluck to the OP.

If I post a vacancy for an entry level computer engineer ing role, high chances the courses I would include to apply will be BSc. Electrical/Electronics, Engineering Physics (if i remember), Computer Engineering (if I remember) .

Yes, an Electrical or Engr physicist can do whatever a computer engineer can do. But that elect/elect, it would be number 1 on the list.

Computer engineering is a specialization, and I wont advise people to specialize from BSc.

It also help in entrepreneurship.
You can set up a repair shop of your own if job offers ain't working out
how is computer engr degree related to repair? Na waa oooo.
Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by yemre: 9:03pm On Apr 30
It's now I see why some people make some comments on this platform. The level of education and understanding of most people here is ridiculously low.

How on earth would you discourage a course as vibrant as computer engineering?

Op, pls grab the opportunity. It will give you a solid foundation for tech because you will learn so many things like programming languages, maintain software and hardwares, write programs for systems and you will also learn how to solve complex maths and business problems.

Pls don't allow the opportunity to slip away.

Organizations are moving away from on-premises infrastructure to cloud so fewer hardware lay within their environment.
true to an extent but that is most applicable to Repair/Roadside CE.

I would say study electrical engineering, then pivot to computer engineering for your postgraduate.
Reason being that electrical engineering is by far the most immune career to AI, and computer engineering is only a subsection of electrical engineering.
Mr man, EE is engineering (design) and thus just as prone to AI interference as all other fields. PCB Netlists, actual circuitry, casing models can all be greatly aided by AI. Maybe the EE you meant was roadside repairers who swap out components and ICs. Those quacks who appropriate title like traditionalists.

What do you think about computer engineering 🤔 abi you think is about assembling and coupling of computerhuh
That is the list in the course.
Mind you I'm currently studying Computer Engineering in Federal Polytechnic Nekede.

You didn't know anything concerning Computer Engineering as a course, you need to browse or do research about it.

so computer assembly is equal to computer engineering? Woow.
What about car assembly? Can those skinny Chinese or Indian girls who assemble electronics engineer them? Lol

to make matters worse, there is no single semiconductor industry in Africa.
The traditionalists on this thread think CE is about roadside repairs.

Maybe your colleague is in charge of changing from generator to Taiwanese/Korean NEPA. Lol.

I hope you work where your colleague works.

average 2026 car has over a dozen computers in them. Computer is not only PC or laptop or tablet.
Anything that performs computation is a computer. There was mechanical computer before electronic ones emerged. Your brain is biological one.

AI still falls under software engineering. In fact artificial intelligence is a course of its own in software engineering.

You mean roadside computer repairs? Or the ones military need more of.
There's nothing like a roadside computer repairs and besides dem dey make money pass some bankers or even doctors. If repair no come you go sell laptops or accessories that stuff is a low-key passive income generator plus if you are well educated you can write proposals to ministries, MDAs, NGOs to train ppl for empowerment or even partner as service center or repair centers with some distributors cool
