OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS FOIL TERRORIST ATTACK AT KUKARETA, INFLICT HEAVY LOSSES, RECOVER ARMS CACHE

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Sector 2 in the early hours of 23 April 2026, successfully repelled a determined terrorist attack on KUKARETA location. The attack, which commenced shortly after midnight and lasted until about 0300 hours, was met with a swift and coordinated response by vigilant troops who executed a deliberate offensive-defensive action, effectively containing the assault and forcing the terrorists into a disorderly withdrawal.

During the engagement, troops inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, with 24 terrorists neutralised so far. Ongoing exploitation of the battlefield has led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including 18 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, 3 RPG tubes, 2 mortar tubes, 4 hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition for PKT systems.

Troops recorded 2 personnel wounded in action, who have been stabilised, while one reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage with all tyres blown out during the engagement. Exploitation operations are ongoing to recover additional bodies and equipment along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes littered with blood trails and medical consumables. This successful operations highlights the resilience, combat readiness and fire superiority of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action. Operations will continue with sustained offensive pressure to consolidate gains and decisively defeat all terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.

MILITARY DESTROYS ISWAP WATERWAY LOGISTICS NETWORK IN DEVASTATING PRECISION STRIKES, NEUTRALISES SCORES IN LAKE CHAD

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in sustained offensive operations conducted in the night of 21/22 April 2026, delivered devastating precision air strikes that dismantled ISWAP terrorist logistics networks along the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis in Northern Borno State.

Acting on credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) inputs, OPHK air assets established persistent overhead presence and confirmed the concentration of over 30 terrorist boats and associated terrorist elements coordinating movement and resupply activities. Target validation and positive identification were carefully achieved, ensuring high targeting fidelity prior to engagement.

Following deliberate confirmation in line with Rules of Engagement, OPHK executed well-coordinated precision strikes that destroyed several boats and disrupted the terrorists’ logistics hub. This immediately degraded their mobility and ability to sustain operations. Real-time ISR enabled rapid follow-on strikes on fleeing and regrouping elements within nearby vegetation, leading to the neutralisation of over 30 terrorists. Surviving elements were observed escaping in disarray, reflecting a breakdown in their cohesion and command structure.

In a related engagement at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, additional precision guided strikes was conducted following target fidelity acquisition with Partners. The strike took out 3 terrorist Gun trucks and neutralised more terrorists within the vicinity.

Battle Damage Assessment (BDA), supported by post-strike intelligence, confirmed significant enemy losses, with evidence of mass burial activities especially by ISWAP elements in the Mallam Fatori axis further underscoring the scale of attrition inflicted. Ground forces are currently exploiting the effects of these strikes to dominate adjoining areas and prevent any reconstitution by fleeing elements. These operations highlight OPHK’s sustained offensive pressure and effective air–land integration in dismantling terrorist networks, degrading their capabilities, and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area. The Military High Command commends troops for the impressive battle performance and urged them to sustain aggressive operations to dominate the battlespace.

OPHK will continue to maintain relentless pressure on all terrorist elements until they are decisively defeated.

NAF SUSTAINS HIGH-TEMPO AIR OPERATIONS, DESTROYS TERRORIST HIDEOUTS IN SOUTHERN TUMBUNS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, sustained operational pressure on terrorist elements with a precision air interdiction mission conducted on 24 April 2026 at about 1850 hours over Ali Sheriffti, a known terrorist enclave in the Southern Tumbuns. Acting on credible intelligence of terrorist activity, NAF air assets conducted a focused surveillance sweep, during which several insurgents were sighted moving along concealed tracks. The targets were trailed to structures hidden under dense foliage, confirming deliberate attempts at concealment. Following positive identification, the NAF executed a precise strike, engaging the structures with onboard munitions.

The operation achieved the desired effect, with terrorist structures destroyed, further degrading their capability and freedom of movement in the area. The strike underscores NAF’s sustained commitment to intelligence-led, precision-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists safe havens. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed this resolve, stating that “the Nigerian Air Force will continue to pursue and dismantle terrorist networks with unwavering precision and relentless force, ensuring no enclave remains beyond our reach.” He added that operations will continue with increased intensity to safeguard the nation and its citizens.

NAF ADVANCES M-346FA FIGHTER PILOT TRAINING THROUGH CANADIAN PARTNERSHIP

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to strengthen its operational capability through a strategic collaboration with the International Test Pilots School (ITPS), Ontario, Canada. This was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Executive Chairman of ITPS, Giorgio Clementi, to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at Headquarters NAF, Abuja, on 24 April 2026. The engagement builds on earlier high-level interactions during the CAS’s visit to Canada, where both sides explored key areas of cooperation, particularly in specialised pilot training on the M-346FA platform, aircraft engineering, and airworthiness standards.

In his remarks, Air Marshal Aneke underscored that the collaboration is central to the NAF’s modernisation drive, which prioritises the development of a highly skilled, mission-ready, and technologically advanced force. He emphasised that specialised fighter pilot training on the M-346FA, alongside strengthened airworthiness practices and capacity development for engineers, will significantly enhance operational effectiveness. The CAS further noted that structured training programmes, instructor development, and the integration of advanced simulation technologies are critical enablers for improving safety, efficiency, and mission readiness across NAF operations.

Providing an overview of ITPS capabilities, Mr Clementi highlighted the institution’s expertise in test pilot training, flight testing, and aviation consultancy, reaffirming its readiness to deliver tailored training solutions under a long-term partnership framework. The visit also featured an interactive session with Branch Chiefs and Directors at Headquarters NAF, where both parties aligned perspectives on implementation modalities. The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to translate identified areas of cooperation into tangible outcomes, reinforcing the NAF’s resolve to leverage strategic partnerships and global best practices to sustain operational readiness.

Troops Discover 7 Additional Terrorist Graves, 2 ISWAP Dead Bodies After Kukareta Attack

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have discovered additional graves and bodies of suspected ISWAP terrorists during follow-up exploitation operations after the failed attack on Kukareta community in Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the latest discovery was made during continued clearance and exploitation of the general area following the earlier engagement in which 24 insurgents were neutralised.

The sources said troops uncovered 7 freshly dug graves believed to belong to terrorists killed during the encounter, as well as 2 additional bodies of suspected ISWAP fighters along withdrawal routes.

They noted that the findings further confirmed significant casualties suffered by the insurgents during the failed assault on the community.

According to the sources, the operation followed a coordinated attack launched by the terrorists in the early hours of April 23, which was decisively repelled by troops after a prolonged firefight.

Troops had earlier recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the scene, including 18 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns, 2 PKT anti-aircraft guns, 3 RPG tubes, 2 mortar tubes, 4 hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.

The sources added that exploitation efforts are ongoing, with troops continuing to comb surrounding areas for fleeing terrorists, additional bodies, and abandoned equipment.

They described the development as a major setback for the terrorist group, noting that sustained military pressure would be maintained to further degrade their operational capabilities.

The general security situation in the North-East theatre remains under close watch, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols and clearance operations to prevent further attacks.

Very interesting developments. The private sector is driving defence technology developments in the Country. This is why most of our advancements are in non-lethal areas, mainly vehicles like MRAPS, drones etc. The Ministry of defence has to unleash the private sector in the areas of lethal technology (through Joint venture arrangements under military supervision) so that they can begin to express their creativity in areas like firearms production, battlefield surveillance and go into areas like grenade launchers, field artillery pieces, etc.

I am confident that if you apply the ingenuity that produces MRAPs into these other areas, we will produce impressive weapons for the infantry and artillery to enable us cancel the advantages that ISWAP enjoys against our smaller units.

All the same kudos to our defence industry sector.

The Federal Government, M.O.D & AFN just need to invest and work with this indigenous industry.
We should not be buying MRAPS/APC abroad with the level of armoved vehicles been produced locally.

TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI SUSTAIN OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS, CRUSH TERRORIST CELLS, ENCLAVES IN TIMBUKTU, BULABULIN FOREST AREAS

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have continued to sustain offensive pressure against terrorist elements, under Operation DESERT SANITY V, recording significant operational gains in 2 separate but coordinated operational engagements involving troops of Sector 2 in the Azir Bridge (Timbuktu axis) and Bulabulin Forest areas in close coordination with the Air Component Command of OPHK.

On the Bulabulin Forest axis, troops of Sector 2 OPHK in conjunction with elements of Stabilisation Force of Sector 2 and the Civilian Joint Task Force cleared terrorist enclaves at Mar, Subdu, Yaro Lawanti and Yaro Shuwari as well as other areas contiguous to the Bulabulin Forest and the Kamadogu Yobe stretch. During the operation, supported by assault air platforms from the Air Component Command, the troops made contact at Malam Shiri Village and engaged the terrorists in a well-coordinated and tactical flanking manoeuvre, neutralising 11 terrorists and forcing others to flee with varying degrees of injuries. All life support structures were subsequently destroyed and exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 9 AK-47 rifles, 3 PKT anti aircraft automatic machine guns, 5 motorcycles, assorted ammunition, and several materials used for Improvised Explosive Devices, thereby significantly disrupting the terrorist logistics and operational capability within the axis.

Similarly, at the Timbuktu axis along the Wajiroko Sabongari corridor, troops had further operational with the terrorists, supported by the Air Component Command of OPHK. The troops with resilience and tactical discipline, maintained positions and decisively dealt with the terrorists. Subsequent exploitation revealed 7 neutralised terrorists, with additional blood trails and body parts indicating significantly higher enemy casualties during the assault. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, RPG tubes, a large cache of ammunition, bandoliers, and communication equipment.

The Air Component Command of OPHK played a very crucial and decisive role in both engagements, providing persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) that enabled accurate target acquisition and real-time situational awareness for ground troops coordinated fire. Precision air interdiction strikes were subsequently conducted by the aircrafts of the Nigerian Airforce on confirmed terrorist positions and fleeing elements, further decimating scores of the insurgents and ensuring the success of a well synchronised air–land offensive that overwhelmed the adversary.

Furthermore, troops, in conjunction with volunteer forces, are currently conducting aggressive follow-up exploitation operations along the Forfor, Multe, and Wajiroko axes to consolidate gains, pursue fleeing terrorists, and prevent any attempt at regrouping. These successful engagements further reinforce OPHK’s growing operational effectiveness and sustained dominance across the battlespace. The Military High Command commends the troops for their gallantry and resilience while urging them to sustain the operational tempo. He congratulated the graduands on the successful completion of their courses and urged them to remain steadfast in upholding regimental ethos.

Similarly, the Commandant oversaw the graduation of One Thousand, One Hundred and Fifteen (1,115) personnel rotated from Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) following the completion of their operational tour. Addressing the troops, he urged them to maximize the De-Induction training received, which covered critical areas such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), family reintegration, unit regimentation, responsible use of social media, and prevention of drug and substance abuse amongst others, all aimed at ensuring seamless reabsorption into unit life.

In a related development, the Commandant earlier inaugurated students of Basic Rigger Course 48 and Basic Airborne Course 61. In his inaugural address, Major General Etim stressed the imperative of strict discipline, total commitment, and professionalism throughout the training period, warning that there would be zero tolerance for indiscipline, particularly given the high-risk nature of airborne and parachute rigging operations where errors could result in fatal casualties.

Highlight of the events was hostage rescue demonstration executed by the students, formal decoration of students with their badges and group photographs.
