I guess they couldn't find capable replacements
95% of them are being trained out side Nigeria (India) by Dangote to handle his refinery so replacing them would no be an easy task

They haven't moved on since then?

There's something indispensable or hard to replace about some of them.
If you know the industry, firing technical staff isn't easy, especially when you do it in such large numbers.
Finding capable replacements isn't easy, especially in large numbers like this case.
Body go tell both the firer and the firees.

All this warning is that they shouldn't join any union. They should be lavish and never speak up
Re: Dangote Refinery Recalls 800 Redeployed Engineers, Grants Conditional Pardon by Alwayshungry: 1:15pm On May 01
you said it all.....no manpower....it takes approximately 2 years to train TECHNICALLY for process role and 1 or 2 years OTJ to successfully man a process plant.

Let me guess Alh Engr Dangote has started using Crank-Nicolson method to solve parabolic partial differential equations ... He suddenly realised been an Engineer before the A.I era is not an easy fit ... The pardon is a welcome development.

most oil companies in nigeria were formerly western owned and the staff are all members of pengassan.

the union will always push for workers rights and salary increase

your average nigerian business owner will do everything n his power to kill union because it means he can then sack workers at will, refuse to increase salaries and nothing will happen.

a google search does not show dangote employees as high salary earners.

others are watching to see how they can also implement same.

i saw a situation where a company lost money and after promising no one would be sacked, mgt canned several non union worker. they gave them i think one or two month severance and that was it. if they had been in union the mgt would have had to negotiate an exit package

you will never understand the need for a union until you are 10 - 15 years in your career. before then mgt can sweet talk you with bs about how union is useless archaic and adds no value.

the biggest irony i recall is how a former ceo was exited with 10m severance. [he had always been a contract staff - and proud of it ] two years later his direct subordinate, who had been a full staff and party of union before elevation to mgt was exited with a package of over 80m

Exactly which is why when they're talking about graduates, it's supposed to be cleared whether it is engineering graduates, lawyers, doctors or others.. but because it's an anyhow country, every graduates think they're equal to others

Exactly what i thinking in my head... its a long road ahead for PENGASSAN..

This has being my ultimate fear.. Africans are very stubborn people.. If you look at most of the O & G where the white has left.. the welfare has really nose dive..

I hope people would understand what you saying.. because union is what has made the O&G sector very lucrative even with the ardent risk associated with it.

Thank you for your input

You see that last part eh.. Some of them do it in order to be in the good face of the mgmt... It can be very funny the mamagement would make bad decisions and expect the downliners pay for the consequence and the funny thing is, if it come to light they would be most beneficiary.

Instead of 6 or 12 months graduate trainee program, Dangote gave 2 years graduate training for the engineers after which they will become a permanent staff.
20 months into the programs Dangote terminated the graduate training program and lay of 800 graduate training.
NOW is recalling them to start afresh and demanding for loyalty.
