KobolanderSegun:So the Americans and Yorubas also give start up capital too? Just for you to simply give igbos accolades is difficult for you. Must you say something unnecessary? |

KobolanderSegun:That's why boi is NOT regular apprenticeship. You can learn everything you need to know to order and sell building materials from China in one week. Yet no matter the amount you use to start the biz you'd still likely fail! Reading this below will help you understand some of the dynamics. We are unaware of it but a lot of things are transmitted through osmosis - through prolonged contact. That's why it is crucial to associate with those doing well - even if it means you serving them. That's what boi system gives free of charge

That's why it is crucial to associate with those doing well - even if it means you serving them. That's what boi system gives free of charge. KobolanderSegun:it's funny when we claim somethings that have been in existence in other climes... This system is very common with Italians later Renaissance Europeans and the Chinese.. It's not a new thing yes others should emulate it and improve on it tho.. But it's not new. |

KingAzubuike:You know what will be paid still depends on the growth of the business and growth is not guaranteed for any business. The best way is for the government to be the broker. The apprentice should be paid minimum wage while the government help them to save half just like with the pension contribution arrangement. It will be growing at over five percent per annum and it will be paid to the apprentice after they are free. The master can also add anything he wants to add. However the best way to run a business is to employ people who will grow with you. Not everybody is provisioned to be a business owner |

Oga it is not about how much that is given to you clown... It is about how much experience that is impacted on you Even if you are given 500 billion after 5 years and you don't have experience you will still waste it I have seen people that wasn't settled at all or their oga died they still made it. When you graduate from University how much were you given? I doubt if you are even a graduate with the way you are thinking KingAzubuike: |

Apprrenticeship is used everywhere not only in the ibo culture. The only difference is that igbos have introduced settlement with money because they are mostly traders. In yoruba culture your parents make payment the trainer, they agree on the number of years, on the day of your graduation your parent must buy the equipment for the work your trainer can also dash you money if you impress him or her. The government has introduced technical schools to make training free. The issue now is that ibos are predominantly traders government will have to use the traditional apprenticeship method to get the youths who are interested in trading. |

KobolanderSegun:See what you are doing yourself because of una hat!red for Igbos. You don't want to hear or believe anything good from Igbos. How those things you say related to Igba boi Igbos practices? Learning work is not the same as igba boi. |

| Re: Igbo Apprenticeship System Gains Global Recognition As Nigeria Pushes For Policy by KobolanderSegun: 9:23am On May 04 |
loveth360:Why will he give them money to establish them ? Is he their father. You seem to like the idea of people establishing people. If you gave me N20k to learn my trade and after two weeks you learnt very well is it not enough that I thought you ? I should now Establish you ? That is why African apprenticeship is covert slavery someone works for you , wishing your clothes going to the market for you for seven years you drain the person of all there power after seven years you give them the salary of 5 years. Esther was Once Black and Broke, When Esther see money ....... " Establish " |

Winneepye:Apprentices is everywhere even in Igboland. But Igba boi is in Igbo land or among Igbos outside Igbo land. Both are not the same. I don't know why you guys are running around just because a credit was given to Igbo. Normal Apprentice in Igboland and everywhere, you meet your master, pay to learn the business or work for a particular period of time. Come to learning the work from your house, and do whatever you like at home and your boss won't put eyes for you. You can even marry that period you are learning it's not your boss concern. After learning you go your way look for money to start your own business or work. Mind you this are for people that have family capable to sponsor their business after learning. Igba boi, your parents hand you over to your boss, you become part of his family for the period you will staying with him, He feed you, clothes you, pay your hospital bill and all other bills. You as nwa boi do everything a son at home or servant will do. You can't have a girlfriend unlike the other apprentice. After the Years of serving 5 to7, depending, Your boss will settle you by giving you money to start up business, and give you grace to still live in his place unit over one year when you stand on yourself a bit. Sometimes in those Years of serving you will see your people two times depending on your location and the towns/States of you and your Boss. The Igbo apprentice system (Igba boi)being discussed is different, you guys shouldn't trying water it down by saying it's everywhere. It is called Igbo apprentice system because is not the usual apprentice system you know. It Igbo name is igba boi. |

KobolanderSegun:And if your parents are poor and can't afford to start up the business for you upon completion of your learning. What is the way forward for youths like that? No wonder rich continue becoming rich and poor remain poor in your tribe. But in Igbo land,a boy from poor family will go serve in rich man business,in next 7,9,10 years, the riches will start reflecting on his own family. That's why a boy his family can't afford to buy a car can become car seller after someone years serving that rich man selling cars. You see it as slavery but Igbo see opportunities. Everything depends on the Way you see it.

loveth360:Delulu. Yorubas have been doing that system even before Igbos ventured into business. What makes me laugh is ascribing it as Igbo system. In the world,a lot of tribes do it with different variances but the one you explained was being practiced by Yorubas before Igbos started doing business. The...live with your boss and serve him for some years... and a couple of other modern variances which look like the European system also exist among the Yorubas especially in fashion, carpentry etc. In trading among the Yorubas, the one you narrated still exists between apprentices and their bosses.I had a couple of them in my extended family. |
