Good day Nairalanders, I need your advice and help urgently.

I recently collected my original WAEC certificate only to discover that my photograph is not visible on it. I reported the issue to my WAEC office in Kaduna and was directed to get the stash album from my secondary school.

Upon approaching the school, they confirmed that the error was from their examination officer but unfortunately they could not find the stash album of my set. When I went back to WAEC with this development, they told me there is nothing they can do.

This is deeply unfair as I did nothing wrong. Has anyone experienced this before? How did you resolve it? Does anyone know the right channel to escalate this within WAEC?

What do you want WAEC to do ? It’s your school that’s to blame here. WAEC has to protect its integrity.

Put your passport there now and back it up with any legal documents or affidavit as they refused to do the needful. Yeye organizations everywhere

The faulty is from your school not from WAEC. The only solution is to fix your passport there since you have no problem with your name written there .

You could submit your complaint to public complaint commission and send a copy to brekette family station

The fault is not from waec

The fault is from your school

Apply pressure on your school so that they can do the needful

Great you have reached out to WAEC.
WAEC is not at fault here but you can push further by:
Writing a formal complaint letter addressed to:
The Head of Office or Principal Assistant Registrar (School Examinations) at the WAEC Head Office in Yaba, Lagos.
Clearly state:
The error originated from your school misplacing the stash album.

Request a photo replacement on the certificate.
Attach:
Copy of your WAEC certificate (showing the invisible photo).
Any recent passport photograph of yours.
Letter from your school confirming the error and loss of the album.
Your photo card (if you still have it).
Many people have succeeded with photo/gender corrections by going through the Yaba head office.

2. Visit the WAEC Kaduna office again with a formal letter and ask for an official referral or escalation to Lagos.
Check the WAEC Digital Certificate platform (waec.org) — you can access/share a digital version which might not have the same photo issue for verification purposes.
Get a Sworn Affidavit from a High Court stating the facts (photo missing due to no fault of yours, school error, etc.). This strengthens your case.

3. Use the certificate as it is (the details are correct).
Always attach a Sworn Affidavit + clear passport photographs when submitting for jobs/admissions.
For official verifications, many institutions now accept the digital certificate from WAEC’s platform.

The choice is yours.

However, make an affidavit and probably police report of this incidence before putting your picture yourself. State the issue as it's and also state it that due to the mistake by your school and rejection by WAEC to rectify the mistake, you have therefore provided your recent picture to avoid any misrepresentation.


You should keep the affidavit and police report very well just in case in the future you become a politician or someone of high relevance.

Make sure you use the same picture for the affidavit and another copy of the same picture for the WAEC.

That will be forgery. Any corrections on the certificate should come from WAEC itself. The thing he can do now is to swear an affidavit

Mistakes and errors happen all the time. How can you tell someone there's nothing that can be done?
Do you think this is something they can't fix or just being unnecessarily difficult?
Ultimately, it's WAEC that has the power to give the go ahead to use another photo in this case.

WAEC and NECO are the most useless ( worst, corrupt) examinations in Nigeria. Imagine a question paper going viral on social media a day to an exam. Kudos to JAMB and professor Isiaka Oloyede.

Just get a Lawyer to write them a beautiful letter

Do not attach your passport as some people are misadvising you, that will amount to alteration and fraud. get court affidavit and move on.
So far the details are correct, you are good to go.
My WAEC Certificate doesnt have picture sef. WAEC introduced pictures to curb exam fraud,
the certificate is good as it is.
