Calabar was thrown into turmoil as students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) staged a massive protest following the tragic death of a student and a driver after a road accident.

What began as a moment of grief quickly escalated into outrage, with students accusing authorities and medical responders of failing the victims at a critical moment. The anger spilled onto major roads as protesters demanded accountability, bringing parts of the city to a standstill.

Security forces later intervened, firing teargas to disperse the crowd, further intensifying tensions and raising fresh concerns about crisis management and public safety.

The incident has once again exposed deep cracks in Nigeria’s emergency response system, leaving many to question: could these deaths have been prevented?

The governor even rushed to disperse the crowd because they were coming at his office. But the same governor did not send personnels to know how and why such happened and what necessary steps to take in calming the of crowd down.

I believe strongly that brutality of civilian will surely end one day in this country....our leaders are acting blind. Yet citizen are in pains. Election is at the corner using peanuts to get what the want. The floor will be open again.
