Finally, a move that restores some respect to academic titles! the government is right to stop the indiscriminate conferment of degrees for political favors or money. It’s about time we differentiate between years of hard research and a title given out for political patronage. By involving the NUC and threatening sanctions against universities that break these rules, the Minister is effectively cleaning up a system that has been abused for way too long. It’s a solid win for academic integrity.

This is how to restore Credibility to Academia - especially to our Universities,
- where everything is just On Money and No Any Research Work and We always Abuse Things In Nigeria !

Awarding honorary degrees is not a core function of a university. It's a privilege that has been grossly abused.

Only medical doctors and PhD holders are the only set entitled to use "Dr" title.

All these Dr king saheed osupa, Dr orji uzor kalu etc are neither medical nor academic doctors

This is highly commendable if it will be successfully implemented. It takes a lot of academic rigours to actually earn the award for those that actually embarked on academic journey at that level, which is being undermined by indiscriminate award of the honorary version that cannot actually be differentiated when the title of 'Dr.' is used as a prefix.

The abuse was too much.
This restriction came at the right time.
Anyone who is not qualified and using the Dr title should be arrested and sentenced.

The problem is not the politicians using the title, their praise-singers, political beneficiaries, and town criers will still address them with those titles on the pages of newspapers..

Tommorow you will see a banner in Oshodi praising 'Dr' MC Oluomo who can write his own name on paper, even if his name depends on it..Another newspaper publication will felicitate with 'Dr' Orji Uzor Kalu who dropped out Unimaid to chase after money..
