Former Imo Governor Emeka Ihedioha To Remain in ADC After Obi's Move to NDC

Over the last one year, we have consciously and consistently worked to build a coalition of well-meaning Nigerians under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Our purpose has been clear, to deliver good governance to the people of Nigeria and to build a nation that is accountable, inclusive, and prosperous.

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, made the decision to move to the NDC in pursuit of his political aspirations. While I would have preferred that this ambition was pursued within the ADC, I recognize that in a democracy, every leader has the right to make political choices guided by conviction. I respect his decision and wish him well.

We share a common aspiration for a better Nigeria, one that works for all and respects our diversity. This remains our collective goal, one that transcends political platforms.

As a foundational member of the ADC coalition, I am fully conversant with the detailed and painstaking efforts that have brought us to where we are today. These efforts have been built on sacrifice, strategic alignment, and a clear vision for Nigeria’s future.

After due consultation and reflection over the past 72 hours, I have chosen to remain in the African Democratic Congress at this time. I take deliberate political steps, and for now, I find no justification to turn my back on the ADC.

We will continue to work towards the shared vision of a New Nigeria, same OBJECTIVES, different PLATFORMS.

You can see from the comments section that the people, the voters themselves, are disappointed with the move.

This may turn out to be a big mistake if Atiku doesn't win, unless he did it to retain Atiku's funding for his governorship ambition, or perhaps he has been promised Senate President if Atiku runs with someone outside the SE.

Good luck to him, but with this choice, he has fallen back in the realization of his dreams... I'm sorry.

This coming election is still in favour of APC due to disagreement between the so-called opposition.

I am really angry with Atiku for his selfish interests. Most people will preferred Obi over Atiku any day and time but with this defection right and left and with the death of PDP as a party, there will be a lot of vote sharing in the North and South South/East that will enable the APC gain the upper hands. It will just be like the last election. So sad, the opposition is all too greedy with personal ambition rather than moving Nigeria forward.

Good he disdainful to for snake-like personality in imo politics. These are exactly the delagates that would have vote against peter Obi for Atiku in ADC . While calling Peter Obi my brother in public.

Peter Obi runs from tough situation.
If he can not face party tribulations and crisis, how does he intend to handle Nigeria,? Because Nigeria wahala pass ADC problems oooo.
He can only operate in an air-conditioned kitchen. Hot kitchens are not for him.
He has never gone through primary,
APGA gave him free Governorship ticket,
Atiku gave him free VP ticket,
Labour gave free Presidential ticket.
He can not be part of Primary election, reason why he left PDP, reason why he left ADC for another free ticket in NDC.

Peter Obi should just form the free ticket,no primaries Party

Atiku cannot win the General Elections. I can bet my last money on it.

The north he is banking on have backed out from him because he is very selfish.

Just four years for another contest and he is all daggers drawn.

Ihedioha is part of Atiku group who started the down fall of PDP. They couldn't impress Atiku to allow presidency go to the south after 8 yrs of North. He is free to stay at ADC.

If you view Atiku as a selfish man for trying to exercise his civic right by contesting to be President of Nigeria, what will you call Obi in three parties within three months.
The most selfish amongst the ADC aspirants is Obi who is junketing up and down just to be President of Nigeria.
It's painful Obi allowed himself to be decieved by Kwankwanso who can not gather enough votes from North.
It's obvious Obi and his minions actually want Tinubu to win the coming election by purposely divide the opposition vote

Every other region split their votes to a certain degree as a form of insurance and in other not to lose out completely but the Southeast votes one-way and often back the wrong horse. It's time to learn this politics and play it how others are playing. It's not an emotional sport.

His choice, remember he need sponsorship for his governorship election..

And beside the imo election doesn’t aligned with the presidential election.

So moving to NDC will not do much or favor him in anyway at the moment

Sabo don enter already? From where to where? This was how the Southeast became radicalised under Nnamdi Kanu. If every region votes their tribesman and declares all who do otherwise a saboteur, how many votes will Obi have?

This was Ojukwu campaigning for president in 2007 under APGA after 8 years of Buhari. Peter Obi supported him in this election and no Northerner demanded that he stepped down. Emotion is one he'll of a drug!

Apart from the last election, was there any other time when the SE did not deliver bloc votes to PDP presidential candidates since 1999?

Given what happened with Utomi in the last election, how is this not a plausible scenario huh

lexylaw40:
The “president-elect” saw in Obi's presidential bid, a good chance to reduce the winning chances of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State, Tawfiq Akinwale, on Wednesday stated that the “President-elect” Bola Tinubu asked popular economist, Prof Pat Utomi to step down for Peter Obi in the buildup to the 2023 general elections.

Akinwale made this revelation while he appeared as a guest on a radio programme on 101.7 YES FM, Ibadan, Oyo State, while alleging that Obi received campaign funds from Utomi, whom he described as Tinubu's "son."

The LP aspirant, who spoke in Yoruba language, said "In the buildup to the 2023 elections, Obi who had purchased the nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suddenly announced his exit from the party.

"Initially, Pat Utomi had secured the LP's presidential ticket, but when Peter Obi said he resigned from the PDP and joined the LP. Bola Tinubu, a master political strategist, quickly told Utomi, that everyone knows to be his son to step down for Obi.

"The “president-elect” saw in Obi's presidential bid, a good chance to reduce the winning chances of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

"What Peter Obi didn't know is much more that what he knows, he started collecting campaign funds from Utomi, while Tinubu was giving the money to Utomi.

"This went on until Obi's presidential campaign got to a stage it went beyond target. Obi was used without him knowing," Akinwale said after announcing his departure from the party.

Obi defected to the LP after resigning his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also withdrawing from the presidential race under the party.

The former governor consequently joined the race for the party’s presidential ticket, while Professor Pat Utomi, in June 2022 stepped down for him to emerge as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, unopposed in Asaba, Delta State.
