How To Look Expensive In Nigeria Without Designer Clothes (Photos/Video) by Glimpsetv(op): 11:42am On May 08
Hi fashionistas, last time I shared a post on how to dress properly and the common fashion mistakes people make, the comments were honestly funny 😂 and surprisingly, a lot of people got triggered.

refer to my previous thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/8665507/why-people-keep-making-these

I feel many people misunderstood the point of the post. It was never about forcing fashion rules on anyone. The post was simply meant to educate people on what is generally considered proper styling and presentation in the fashion world.

At the end of the day, you can wear whatever makes you happy. But one thing people should never forget is this — your dressing and fashion sense say a lot about you before you even speak.

So today, I’m back with another important one, especially for those who believe you must be rich before you can look classy or expensive.

No.

You can wear cheap outfits and still look luxurious.

In fact, many people wearing “designer” today still look poorly dressed because they ignore the real secrets that make an outfit look premium.

Looking expensive is not really about loud logos or spending millions. It’s mostly about:
Good fitting
Clean styling
Quality-looking fabrics
Minimal accessories
And proper grooming

One good tailor alone can completely transform an ordinary outfit into something that looks premium.

Even thrift clothes can look luxurious if you know how to style them properly.

Look, I understand many people may not have the money to buy expensive clothes or original designer wears. In fact, many people end up buying fake designer clothes or fake accessories just to appear rich. Honestly, that’s one of the biggest turn-offs in fashion.

Today, I want people to understand that you can actually get quality and good-looking materials through thrift if you are humble enough.

Many people see thrift as “poor man’s fashion,” but the truth is, if you are not financially buoyant yet, there is absolutely no need trying to impress people with fake luxury. Thrift is honestly one of the smartest ways to build a classy wardrobe on a budget.

Now, let me be clear — thrifts are in different grades. I’m not talking about random overused roadside clothes.

One funny secret about thrift is that some pieces are actually original designer items or high-quality brands that were pushed out for different reasons. Some are almost brand new. This is why you must learn how to identify quality pieces instead of just buying anything because it is cheap.

You need to know where to thrift, how to inspect fabrics properly, how to check finishing, seams, zippers, fitting, and how to choose pieces that actually look premium.

I’ll still make another thread fully focused on thrift — where to buy, how to choose quality pieces, and everything people need to know.

Meanwhile, in today’s 8+ minutes video, I focused on how both men and women can dress properly for office, events, and casual outings while still looking classy and expensive without spending too much.

I talked about:
Ankara styling
Senator wear
Blazers
Tailoring secrets
Luxury styling hacks
How fitting changes everything
And simple ways to instantly elevate your appearance.

Do you think looking expensive is mostly about money… or presentation? 👀

Just like I said earlier, dressing well is not about being rich or having plenty of money, and it has nothing to do with pride. It is simply about how you make the best use of what you already have.

In the last part of the video, I also explained how you can start building a proper wardrobe with just a few key pieces — about 3 shirts or tops, 3 pairs of trousers, and a good pair of shoes — and still look clean, stylish, and luxurious.

Dressing well is actually a form of investment.
You cannot be focused on making money while neglecting how you present yourself.

The truth is, the way you dress affects how people perceive you, and in many cases, it can open doors you never expected.

Imagine dressing anyhow or wearing very loud, mismatched outfits in a corporate environment. Why do you think serious companies and corporate organisations expect their staff to dress well, like in the banking sector?

Whether it is attention, opportunities, or even a promotion at work — appearance matters more than most people admit.
It is all about the right mindset.

If you need people's validation of your worth, then you don't respect yourself enough. You dress to be comfortable not to show people how much you are worth. True they say dress the way you want to be addressed but it's a form of deep seated insecurity if you wear expensive things to prove a point. It means you've not grown.

The worst is designer clothes, why will I be doing free modelling for you? Before oyinbo came with all their nonsense, we were wearing clothes. Na tailor de sew am, buy material but I dress well. Anything that has a logo on it, I don't buy them at all. Asoebi of 1m etc is just pepper dem and I still believe that if all you do is to show off and oppress people, na insecurity but you can do whatever you want with your money, e no mean say e go buy my respect.

BTW I will not watch your video or click on it neither will I salute you for the AI article.

Don't worry about looking "expensive" until you have a budget to experiment with. And being in shape does more for your look than your style. Exercise is free too.

Guys have it easy, all you need is a good line up, slacks, white shirt, tie, and decent shoes. And men's clothes are cheaper.

Most women look good with braids, locs, or an afro style. No need for all that wig nonsense. And natural hair is more feminine and attractive. A decent blouse, slacks/skirt, shoes, and matching jewelry works for most women. Skincare and makeup definitely makes a difference, but that's it's own topic.

Basically, dress like you're going to church. grin

Nice-looking clothes are far more accessible than they've probably ever been. And if you don't know how to put stuff together, there's tons of apps and websites that you can put your photo and videos on to get not just suggestions, but where to buy everything, and within your budget.

You're right. Especially about traditional clothes. However, you probably wouldn't leave your house in clothes that look like rags. And a healthy reason someone should seek expensive clothes is the reality that those expensive clothes are beautiful art tailored for your body. It's not about the label, even though that's what many chase. It's no different from well-made traditional clothes.

And I argue that the way you dress is part comfort, part personal expression (everybody has favorite clothes), part peacocking (everybody likes to look at least a little sexy), and part representing who you are (you wouldn't want someone to think you're shady).

Without thrift, where I for dey? Nigerians generally look down on thrift wears but I even pray that people don't ever open their eyes to the value. I don't mean chinese okrika. I mean first grade London. Once you have the eyes to recognize quality, you'll look fresh without breaking the bank
