That's a great response, simply a great advise to her ........let me add a little here:

Nigeria ain't a great country in terms of infrastructure. Our government are very corrupt and ofcourse still stealing our common wealth just as they were doing while she was here and largely doing now, infact, stealing of our common wealth had become a trillion dollars investment presently and soon, Nigeria would start selling shares of corruption in New York Stock Exchange immediately after declaring opening on Lagos stock Exchange.

I feel for you especially your little guy, just try and get him a good Malaria treatment before you leave because it might be a bit awkward getting Malaria treatment in the western world. Next time, as you are entering the country, dash down to an hospital or a good pharmacy and get yourself some package of antimalarial drugs and Typhoid drugs. Remember, Nigeria is full dose, full package of problem and funnily, you are a Naija born even though you are diluted now, diluted I said and not mixed.... 😂

kingthreat:
Is it not the same Nigeria that thousands of people troop into weekly?
The only thing here which I feel is wrong is being forced to use an airport taxi at an exorbitant amount.
I have been to bad hotels abroad where the sheets are smelly and conddoms are under the bed. The way hotels work is this, if the one you're in is not good enough, check for another. You cannot expect a hotel of 25k a night to give you a regularly clean swimming pool.

One night, I had a truly frightening experience. My child woke up crying in pain, holding his head. I was terrified—I had never seen him like that before. I immediately called the hotel reception to ask for the nearest hospital or an emergency number, but I was told there was none nearby.

On the above, please why didn't you use a Google Maps to find a hospital nearby?
I know the country is not the best but there are over 200 million people living here and many are more happier, healthier and fulfilled than those living outside. Life is what you make of it, not just about where you are.

Same Nigeria that other people are coming to and are happy we know there's a lot of problem but you definitely came with a prepared mind to castigate and insult the system as you are advising people to run know these that they are many people who can relocate at will travel for vacations also but still choose to stay in Nigeria

If you can't withstand loneliness, stress, and hustle, don't go abroad o.
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by dominique(mod): 6:05pm On May 08
I didn't read the entire story, the hotel part got me so angry that I couldn't continue anymore.

Are you sure you lodged in a standard hotel or seedy motel? Standard hotels have air-conditioned rooms and they hardly ever have to open their windows for mosquitoes to gain access. How can you lodge your son who has zero protection from malaria parasites into a hotel were mosquitoes were feasting on him? Didn't you read the reviews of the hotel before lodging? You're more irresponsible than Nigerian politicians and government officials. Hope you've packed your bags and returned to your paradise abroad.
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by lagonovo: 6:06pm On May 08
Some valid points but your shoddy preparation and carelessness is a bigger concern. Some of us go home well-prepared and it goes well almost always.

Not saying our issues in Nigeria are not disgraceful. We should do better than where we are now.

The president, state governors and federal ministers need to realize that we are already late to the party so no day should be wasted in addressing one or more issues affecting the people. We are too far behind, it’s a shame.
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by oluayebenz: 6:06pm On May 08
You came to enjoy your time in Nigeria but end up booking a cheap hotel.

There are many beautiful hotels in very nice environment, zero mosquito and 24hrspower supply

First, you can order Uber in MMA intetnational. Those airport Taxi just take advantages of him
Oga this is dry season, even Houston is hotter than Nigeria most time.
Mosquito every where.... That means he lodged in low standard hotel.
You cant lodge in Marriot, Safron both at Joel Ogunnaike or Sheraton and complain of noise or mosquitoes. I have spent days in safron and sheraton.... Nothing like noise or mosquito.

The airport guys are annoying which i agree with you. But it is by choice to patronize them, it is not mandated

Probably from China or some other extremely cheap country. Guy is simply TOOO CHEAP.

**This is very likely AI. Nigeria has some excellent hotels for very low prices. But there are also some that are even lower and that's probably where he lodged and complaining. Also he was expecting airport trolleys to be free - where does that happen??
Hahaha haha I was also wondering oh.

The op is a lady like you lol, stingy people lol, as her husband no follow her come back and pay for better hotel, she couldn't pay for a good hotel despite having the money, I know our Nigerian women very well lolz

Trolleys aren't also free in all of Europe,
I paid for trolley at Milan linate airport.
There are a lot of beggars too in the west,Especially Europe.
Them don also leave my bag behind from Amsterdam to Budapest.
All of una weh no succeed for that useless cold jungle with horrible food and useless women no dey ever close una mouth,
There's a lot going on back home, people succeeding left and right.
Don't come to Nigeria again o,remain for that West where they see you less than a pig.
the writer came to Nigeria just to complain if you cannot cope or pay for 5 star hotels then don't come back is it the government failure that brought mosquitoes are there no mosquitoes in tropical contries like Brazil ?
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by lagonovo: 6:11pm On May 08
You don't even need Marriot, Safron or Sheraton to avoid those discomfort, there are several other options across different price ranges. It's just lazy research for someone traveling to a different environment.

Re: Bitter Travel Experience by presiade(m): 6:11pm On May 08
Lol first-time travelers are not difficult to spot. Trolleys are paid for at most international airports including George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston, Texas. Nigeria is not perfect, but all these are not unique to Nigeria.

Also, I still used MMA a few weeks back, and no one forced me to use any “airport taxi”. You can always book an Uber ride before you arrive or after you’ve landed—your mode of transportation out of the airport is totally your choice. An Uber ride from the airport to places around Ikeja costs less than N10K, depending on traffic situation.
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by OlujobaSamuel: 6:14pm On May 08
Your hotel is 30mins drive from the airport and no better Hotel, and no hospital around??
Kindly lie small small Na
Also, airport taxi isn't compulsory, you probably approached the airport taxi and they offered you their deal as the best for you.
The only airport with ehailing restrictions is MM1 and people still find a way around it
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by tiger28: 6:18pm On May 08
When I left Nigeria many decades ago, the airport actions were the SAME(IBB era)….. and that won’t change with any government.

You arrived in Naija( with your Oyinbo child) and got a “Hotel” in Iyana ipajahuh?? You were being cheap. Once you mentioned Church and noise and mosquitoes, we all knew the area where you stayed.

You don’t come to Naija without the necessary plans especially when you came with Oyinbo Child.

Na your fault!
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by zylla(m): 6:18pm On May 08
Thank you ooooo
MasterTeeUSA:
I do not get all these lamentations. In Berlin, you have to pay for trolley. If you dont have 1 Euro coin, you have no ways to get one and you are stuck. In US, for a 30 mins trip, plan to pay over $60 which is close to N80k. You waited for luggage...well I waited for luggages in Gatwick and at Dulles Airport...heaven did not fall.

Maybe you are not matured enough to travel with a child or travel at all. We do not sing all these Songs of Lamentations abroad. Even Flights get delayed like crazy...no one goes into a tirade. It is when we get to Nigeria that we act like everything is perfect abroad. Free buses from airport...in what country...maybe within the airport but even at Heathrow, there are no free buses from airport Lol.

Thank God some of us have traveled, else people like you will paint a fake picture.

Re: Bitter Travel Experience by Eniolohunda: 6:22pm On May 08
I totally get the op frustration. The first time I stepped out Nigeria I felt like not going back too. And with some of the comments I read up there, I don't think Nigeria is changing soon, as long as people living there believe everything is alright. The change depends on people. Meanwhile, paying for trolley is not only Nigeria thinging, it happens in many airports abroad too. Also, you see the hot weather you mentioned is beyond Nigeria, Nigeria can only improve on light to cushion the effect. But you see the noisy night with religion activities is what Nigeria can work upon, and truly good life goes beyond having just money like most Nigerians believe.

Ana2022:
Hello everyone,

I recently took a short trip to Nigeria, and I feel deeply saddened by what I experienced. I want to speak honestly to young people, middle-aged individuals, married couples—everyone. Please, don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking that “there is nothing abroad.” That statement is simply not true.

It’s difficult for me to even talk about this because of how heavy it feels. In Nigeria, there is a strong belief that money is everything. But I’ve come to realize that true quality of life goes far beyond wealth. Things like security, basic amenities, good healthcare, and decent roads—these are fundamental human needs, and they matter more than just having money.

Millions of people in Nigeria are struggling every day, and it’s heartbreaking. What makes it even more painful is that many of the leaders travel abroad, see better systems and living conditions, yet allow their own citizens to endure such hardship.

My brothers and sisters, think about your future. Think about your old age and the generations that will come after you. Try to find opportunities in places where you can build a better life. Nigeria, as it stands, is not working the way it should, and we must not ignore that reality.

Let me share my experience with you…
When Peter Obi wins next year, Nigeria will be on track to full recovery. It only takes one man with vision.

Kaczynski:
airports everywhere outside of east asia and nordic countries are turd holes, lagos is just more honest about it. the system isn't broken, it's working exactly as designed. you brought your kid into nigeria expecting some fairy tale instead got slapped with reality and now you writing a manifesto. congrats you discovered that nigeria isn't switzerland. did you think the airport staff were going to sing kumbaya and hand out free viagra samples? the trolley guys are hustling because that's the economy. you want change? go be a political leader instead of crying on a forum. and that guy extorting you? classic nigerian entrepreneur, persistence is a feature not a bug. if you can't handle 40 minutes of mild harassment, you are not cut out for the motherland. you stay abroad and spare us this novel.
This is one of the people aiding the destruction of this country. They are the people supporting and defending the Political Embezzlers, encouraging extortions all over the place. These are the people who find it difficult to respect others or respect the rule of law. You start hearing statements like "you loose-guard" and all those nonsense. They have grown to embrace slavery, suffering, poverty, dysfunctional society and a highly corrupt system as a norm and would want to force others to accept same.
A Nigerian living abroad came back after several years being away and was metted with disappointments (which we have been forced accept as the standard) and yet, you don't want him to express his displeasure.
These are the kinds of people that arrest others and imprison them just for expressing their opinions.

Reading through I don't think you were ready. Most of your views are overreactions to daily routines.
You never introduced yourself, state of origin, where you grew up, schooled etc.
Most of what you wrote sounded pretentious. Sorry.
Complaints about the hot sun, mosquitoes, crowded streets etc
Haba.
Re: Bitter Travel Experience by Saint99: 6:30pm On May 08
Is this a case of one trying to claim a 'been to'? If you are coming from abroad and complaining about the 40k airport taxi or a mosque-infested hotel, there are many back home in Nigeria who are comfortably riding the 40k taxi week in, week out, and can afford to stay in a decent non-mosquito-infested hotel. In Nigeria, options are not lacking, there are those who enter a bus from Kano to Lagos and choose to stand instead of sitting because they only paid for a half ticket. Would you blame the transport system for that?

Dont mind her. Overtly exaggerating! Airport taxi is a choice and i prefer it actually because they can help carry my luggage for me right from inside the airport. And if you can price haggle very well no one can cheat you. I remember a driver recently charging me 50k but i paid 20k eventually. These experiences are some of the things you dont get abroad that makes nigeria unique.
