Raumdeuter, this is the first time I've seen the Republicans go on the offensive and actually winning. This Trump's presidency is very consequential in no small way. |

Ellexy:I give it to them, Democrats are usually more organized, they have started the gerrymandering long before the Republicans knew it. They know how to plan things properly. They would have packed the courts, all the agencies they would have packed it with their people And Republicans once they call them racists, and use some emotional blackmail on them, they back down. Those are the type of Republicans the left love, Those that lose in peace. That is why Trump a former Democrat and knew all their mode of operations coming into it ruined thing for them The Republican the left hate the most is a former Democrat who knows all their tricks and now using it against them |

raumdeuter:......he is solid. To be honest, most of APC candidates ain't it. Sarafa doesn't seem a leader that can manage even a local government. Pẹnkẹlẹ?! Ain't gonna advise Oyo to vote for him - man too dey arrogant. Beulah is only wasting his time with the PDP. Ọyọ N Pe ẹ thinks governance is like kọkọrọ alatẹ. | Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 7:32pm On May 08 |
Ellexy:Most Republicans only vote for presidential elections and most vote on election day. But Democrats are more organized, they have more agencies that will knock on your door to encourage you to vote, help you fill out voters form, do mail in ballot, do absentee voting, go to old peoples homes to campaign for them to vote, Every election from schools board to one small council, Democrats are always organizing themselves for it, while Republicans only wait for the big election, problem is that the damage have been done before the big election, so when even a Republican win the Presidency, the bureaucracy already built by the little small seemingly inconsequential elections of judges, schools board, council member etc cannot allow him to function Also more women are democrats and they are likely to have more time for volunteering and NGO election type work which favors Democrat organizing |

OasisX:Beulah, Oriyomi etc are all needed to split the anti APC votes, let them join, the more the merrier I personally prefer Adelabu but I will take anyone APC present OasisX:Beyond the governorship, APC needs to put eye in every election from HOA to HOR, we dont want another top to bottom Ellu Pee One thing I am glad for about the 2023 elections is that it woke up a lot of sleeping SW youths, they are now buying into the conservative agenda for their states Every candidate now in Oyo would be screened in details where is his background and ancestry, where is his allegiance and who did he marry, What does he think about Yoruba language and culture, Does he speak and think in Yoruba All these are important. One of the screening committee for APC that I spoke to when they were having their meeting at Golden Tulip hotel, I told him every candidate will show his Oyo bona fides, his family compound, even his Oriki sef, we want to know. To weed out those who dont think in Yoruba I guess thats why Seyi dropped Adebo. We can accept a Demola Adeleke not a GRV By the way, What is happening in Osun in August. |

Nigerians will wail against xenophobia and racism and still practice tribalism. Can anybody tell me what is the difference between tribalism and Xenophobia or racism? If you ask me, tribalism is even worst because it's literally your own fellow country person you're discriminating against. |

TemporaryHansel:In South Africa, people are being attacked and their properties looted. Here, nobody is looting anybody's property because they aren't Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa? Am I justifying any of them? No. But the comparison is way different |

raumdeuter: ![]() ........top to bottom ish ain't gonna happen again. That MFR representing Osodi-Isolo II is gone, same as the one representing Eti-Osa. Obasa actually positioned himself for the seat, but GAC prefers a refined conservative, thus KOH gets the nod. Meanwhile.......Debo was just bluffing, he has lots in his cupboard already. LOL! Sadly, I prefer dancing Governor to AMBO in Osun. I would have supported AMBO but he is too attached to Oyetola. If you want to lose election in Osun before 10:00am, make Oyetola your Godfather. He is dãmn 8ed by the Civil Servants. Some towns even 8 him more than the civil servants because he messed up their traditional institutions at the last minute of his administration. He staffed some undeserved Ọbas, conducted Yes/No LG Election and much more political blunders. In term of infrastructural development, dancing Governor ain't doing bad. He is also taking good care of civil servants. Sadly for APC, PBAT won't influence anything, cos a win for any of the candidates is also a win for PBAT. If Adeleke wins, he is gonna decamp to APC possibly before his second term swearing-in ceremony. |

izzou:Is it not Jonathan’s actions that put us in the mess we have found ourselves in today? (by conceding defeat) Though he stands out as one of the few leaders who still displays genuine human feeling and compassion, he was simply too soft for the kind of ruthless political environment he faced. The reality is that leadership at that level requires firmness, tough decision-making, and the willingness to step on toes when necessary. From what we observed during his administration, he often appeared overly accommodating, too soft to take a bold decision, e.g. calling your opponent and congratulating him even before election was announced, Who does dat? Wetin he dey smoke? (2)He over pampered the northerners with their excesses, perhaps believing it would earn him their support during the election, toorr. 😂 Though he still remains better than all the presidential aspirants we have paraded today in the opposition party. At this stage, it would be best for him to remain in retirement to enjoy his. Life. He has played his part and should just go away from the pressures of public office, he does have shock absorber at all. Personally, I still like him and acknowledge his humanity, even though he disappointed me big time in 2015 when he conceded that defeat. I’ve forgiven him, the wound may have healed, but the memory remains. He’s still my man any day, any time. However, he should quit politics for now. P.S. If he hadn’t conceded defeat, nothing would have happened. Would Buhari have conceded defeat in that same situation if it was him? |

MorataFC:How can you say if he hadn't conceded defeat nothing would've happened? Ha! 😲😲😲 Na wetin you know, you know ó. I was in the north during this period and I can boldly tell you that the nation would've gone up in flames had Jonathan done anything other than concede victory that march 2015. Election took place on Saturday, On Sunday while collation was ongoing everywhere was tense. Till Monday evening, most non-northerners in the area I was then were careful not to move anyhow. Nobody wants to be caught napping when the final results are announced or if the president takes a decision/makes an announcement that can jeopardize one's life. There was tension everywhere, people glued to their TV and radios with different speculations being hushed in silent tones. Big apprehension everywhere. To make matters worse, we were called by the returning officer of our LGA to come and re-arrange some of the electoral materials we used Saturday. We travelled down to the INEC office there in the morning, did what we were asked to do all through the afternoon and set out to return to base in the evening. It was while we were like 20 minutes away to our residence on the way we heard Jonathan had already called Buhari. Come and see northerners celebrating with tension that was hanging in the air giving way for celebration. We literally saw people traveling in trailers, buses and cars come down to dance and celebrate on the express. All of us heaved a sigh of relief at that moment because the uncertainty that hung everywhere had just cleared. There was every indication that things would've turned upside down if Jonathan had done any other thing than conceding defeat in that election. I am sure you are aware there has been revelations from some northern APC guys that they brought in some fulani guys from other African countries who were going to fight till their last breath if Buhari had not been declared winner despite official results showing he's clearly leading.(Some say that's the origin of the Fulani herdsmen menace that has snowballed into kidnapping and terrorism). I don't even think they were willing to go for run-off elections had their been a close call between Jonathan and Buhari when final results are announced. Jonathan may be a weak man for how he run his government, pampered northerners in his government, appointed a fairly independent minded northerner as INEC chairman (Unlike Tinubu who appointed Amupitan a Yoruba person who has been exposed to be pro-Tinubu/pro-APC), etc..... But Jonathan is not a weak man for conceding defeat to Buhari...... I am not really a fan of Jonathan, but I think you are only talking based on hindsight. Jonathan was the GCFR who must have had access to top intelligence report about possible breakdown of law and order from DSS and other intelligence sources. I will say he acted in the interest of peace and he shouldn't be chastised for that. Let's also not forget pressure that will come from foreign powers had Jonathan decided not to concede result of the election. I don't think countries like the UK and US would fold their hands and allow him get away with him. Remember it wasn't like he enjoyed massive support from them in the first place (US government in particular). Let's not forget what happened in Ivory Coast when Laurent Gbagbo refused to concede an election. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 7:02am On May 09 |
MorataFC I agree with you for most part, except "Nothing would have happened if he didn't concede defeat" Omoh.....How peaceful do you think Nigeria would have been by then? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by iamoyindamola(m): 7:03am On May 09 |
BlueRayDick:Don't mind them Some of us are already imagine the horror if GEJ didn't surrender, I think UN awarded him one peace award or something Everyone knows what will happen if he didn't accept, there was a leak PMB was very angry losing to a bloody civilian the first time when they went to beg him for the killings to stop Innocent corps members were victims, that man can never RIP |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:12am On May 09 |
iamoyindamola:Exactly? How can anybody see what happened in 2011 when corpers were killed in the north post-election and then the person should now say nothing would've happened if Jonathan didn't concede in 2015? Omo! Real blood would have flowed in that 2015 o. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:19am On May 09 |
izzou:Peaceful keh? A civil war may breakout with the northers going berserk. The Niger Delta militants on the other hand will likely ground the nation by stopping oil from flowing out the region. When that happens, foreign powers like the US, UK, etc who have financial interest in the oil flowing out of a "peaceful Nigeria" would have no.choixe but to intervene and right ghe wrongs. It will still end in Jonathan being sent packing Las Las. So like Jonathan said, is his ambition worth that much blood being shed? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by MorataFC: 8:40am On May 09 |
BlueRayDick:I actually agree with you to an extent, and that’s exactly the “weakness” I was referring to. They saw that soft nature in him and took advantage of it politically. The question is simple, would Buhari concede that easily if the tables were turned? Would Jagaban do the same today? We have already seen Tinubu appoint an INEC chairman many people believe tjat he will dances to his tune, but Jonathan reportedly consulted Buhari before appointing Jega and even allowed Buhari’s input in the process. Who does that? That level of openness may make you a good man, but politics at that level is not built on goodwill alone. How can you be digging your own grave just because you want people to see you as a good man? No doubt, Jonathan was a decent and humane leader, same with Yar’Adua. In terms of personal chsracter and compassion, both stand above many of the people we parade today. But Jonathan was simply too soft for the ruthless political terrain he found himself in. In fact, looking at the confusion and division in the opposition parties today between ADC, NDC, and the rest, if this was during Jonathan’s era, I’m very sure they would have made him chairman of the peace and reconciliation committee by now. 😂 The man naturally wanted everybody to be happy, even his opponents. He also did not want the blood of the people he governed on his hands, which is why he conceded defeat peacefully, and the opposition saw that side of him, they saw the loopholes and used them against him. But would they try that with Buhari, Obasanjo, or Tinubu? And honestly, that same softness is part of why many people believe certain powerful northern political interests became too comfortable during his tenure, knowing fully well that the man was too lenient and he will do nothinh and yes he did nothing. And let me tell the plain truth, that was the reason he lost the election before it even started. Some people also argue that questionable elements and dangerous actors found their way into the country because they knew Jonathan was unlikely to respond with the kind of hardline approach other leaders might have used. Whether people agree or not, that perception of him being “too soft” definitely followed him throughout his presidency. So, to many people like me, it was that same softness and weakness that allowed all these elements to operate freely. And that was both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness. Even so, history will still remember him as one of the few Nigerian leaders who placed peace above personal ambition. I like him, and I think he should enjoy his peace in peace. Cc izzou |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc(m): 8:41am On May 09 |
izzou:It is even wild to say a president should not concede defeat in an election that he lost. Will this advice hold only for presidents he likes or presidents in general? An election in which Buhari said the dog and the baboon will be soaked in blood if he was rigged out. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 8:53am On May 09 |
I pity anybody trying to win election in Nigeria without spending money or doesn't have money to spend. Most Nigerians don't care about manifesto and plans, the only thing they care about is who is ready to spend the most, any other thing is noise to them. A conquered populace. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 8:55am On May 09 |
MorataFC Yeah, I agree with you. Jonathan wasn't built for our politics. Even looking at his rise to the top, he was simply chosen. From LG Chairman to Deputy Governor. When Governor enter wahala, e become governor. When OBJ wan find people wey e fit control, e use am as VP. Oga die, dem promote am. He wasn't cut out for any violence, and it's a good thing. Because when politicians fight for power, it's mostly because of themselves and not the people. Imagine chaos everywhere just because you want to be president. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 8:57am On May 09 |
afrodoc:Buhari was terror already before he won. Talked carelessly, Defended Boko Haram. He would have burnt the North to the ground if GEJ didn't concede. Let's not forget the SW too contributed to that victory. How Nigeria for be? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 9:01am On May 09 |
In my opinion, if every state in this country was like Lagos, the country would be better. Lagos might be a shithole if compared to other global cities, but it is like 100years ahead of every other state in Nigeria. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:08am On May 09 |
TemporaryHansel:There's no way every state can be like Lagos. Why? Because the strategic advantage Lagos had over the years, most states don't have it. Forget all those political lamba about one person building Lagos. Lagos had a whole lot of strategic advantage that dates back to the 60's. Jakande built low cost housing estate as governor as far back as early 80's. Federal government built FESTAC as far back as the mid to late 70's. How many states could boast of that kind of development those same period? The truth is other states will only play catch up. What one can only pray and hope for is that other states shouldn't be so far behind as tbey are currently. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 9:13am On May 09 |
BlueRayDick:The other states are too far behind. Infact, Lagos is more than 500 years ahead of some states in the country. As for your point about the strategic development Lagos received, perhaps if the other states weren't looting theirs with reckless abandon while not keeping anything tangible for development, they wouldn't be so far off? The ND states for example, which excuse do they want to give?? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:15am On May 09*. Modified: 11:11am On May 09 |
MorataFC:I think what you should've said was that Jonathan 4ck up not playing politics well pre-election which led to his loss at the polls. You can't say he shouldn't have conceded an election he clearly lost. Trust me be it Buhari or a Tinubu that lost election as incumbent? They have no choice but to concede defeat. You can say both aforementioned wouldn't lose elections as incumbent and I will agree with you 100%, but saying they wouldn't concede defeat means u don't know to start chaos can be very easy in this country. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:17am On May 09 |
BlueRayDick:Every state can at least measure up, and that is why God needs to punish our governments since 1999. At least, the basic responsibilities like power, roads, schools shouldn't be a topic of discussion in 2026 |
