Very good idea, and Nigeria should not stop there. We should aggressively court the Chinese to invest in manufacturing in different areas of the economy. After all, the Chinese, Singapore Thailand, Taiwan etc transformed their countries the same way. |

He should also allow China (or another "advanced" nation ) manage Gombe state for 20 years. He should further allow his neighbor to manage his household, nack his wife (and probably daughter). Foolish goat. This is a man who does not think. |

brain54:You are right that no nation with such leaders can grow with such mindset. This should let you know that we do not have the Leaders with the will power to solve this power issues . so it is not bad to refer to a nation who has the will power to manage this sector for a while. In this case China. Truth is bitter! |

Goinhard:SHUT UP AND STOP TALKING RUBBISH. OUR FIRST POWER PLANT, KAINJI DAM WAS BUILT IN 1964. THE BRITISH ONLY CAME HERE TO LOOT, AND BUILT NOTHING. IF THEY WERE STILL HERE, YOU'D BE BE AN ILLITERATE BECAUSE THEY BUILT NO PUBLIC SCHOOLS. ACCORDING TO AI CHATGPT, THEY LOOTED $50 TRILLION FROM NIGERIA. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TEACH YOU WHITE-WORSHIPPING NIGERIAN YOUTHS THAT COLONISATION WAS A SYSTEM OF ECONOMIC EXPLOITATION DESIGNED TO BENEFIT THE COLONISING NATION AND IMPOVERISH THE COLONISED NATION. SO ASKING THEM TO ''STAY LONGER'' IS THE HEIGHT OF IGNORANCE AND BUFFOONERY. |

gabbytabby:MR MAN.. EVEN IF GOD COMES DOWN FROM HEAVEN TO RUN THE POWER SECTOR, HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONVINCE NIGERIANS THAT THEY NEED TO PAY GOOD MONEY FOR ELECTRICITY. WHICH IS WHAT FORCES THE GOVT TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY DISCOS CAN CHARGE FOR POWER. LIBERALISING THE POWER COSTS, IE ALLOWING THE DISCOS TO CHARGE CUSTOMERS HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE DISCOS TO REINVEST IN, AND IMPROVE SERVICE DELIVERY - IS POLITCAL SUICIDE FOR ANY PRESIDENT. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. SO IF YOU LIKE, BRING PEOPLE FROM PLANET JUPITER TO RUN THE POWER SECTOR, IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM THEY WILL FACE! |

Gbadugbakun:Why should you and other Nigerians allow governments (local, state and federal) to manage businesses? How well did the federal government manage telecom services in NITEL and petrochemicals in NNPC? How much government involvement do you have in Nollywood and afrobeat music industries? anonimi:@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ anonimi: |

And after 20 years we will be worse off. Look at all the achievements we recorded before and after independence until the whities gave us the country back. Black people especially Nigerian politicians are such a disgrace. |

Gbadugbakun:If you want Nigeria to work privatise the presidency. Just as jobs are advertised, do that with the presidency where anybody from any part of the world can contest. Let the Chinese , American contest to be the president. |

Illeterates. I am designing power grid for uk. Yet never do we get the opportunity to do anything in nigeria. You Illeterates will be there making foolish decisions. You have NIEEE. Hand over the sector to NIEEE. |

SlavaUkraini:Well Senator Goje is not entirely wrong. But before that is done, why don't he propose a bill that will allow the Chinese government or any other advance country as he mention come and occupy all political positions from Federal to State and Local government, National Assembly(Both houses), all State House Assemblies, all State and Federal Universities, President, VP, State Governors, Deputy Governors, PAs, SSA, etc, etc, run and operate the Nigerian nation for 20 years and hand over to us... This should be the proposal he should be doing and not that no sense he is talking over there...... I bet you, he is among those who give out wheelbarrow and shovel as empowerment tools to his constituents. |

Not a bad idea at all. We manage it ourselves for many years and keep failing due to our bad and corrupt character. At least this will bring a little sanity into the sector again |
| Re: Why Nigeria Should Allow China Manage Electricity Sector For 20 Years - Goje by Guestmale: 7:43am On May 09 |
In as much i don't really subscribe to this idea but our own people too handling our power sectors especially distribution also need to up their game placing profit first, more and above the service delivery will not get us the level we are aiming for. They must be ready to invest much first before expecting profit, many distribution infrastructures have decayed, obsolete and need change. It shouldn't be the responsibility of consumers to buy transformers, electric poles, cables and even meter. When our distribution companies give meters to their customers there is assurance of recouping their money back at least 90 percent. |

SlavaUkraini:Notwithstanding the implications on our national psyche it is a road worth travelling. Is that not playing already in the telecoms sector largely run by South Africans and Indians. Corruption is what will not allow us go forward on all fronts. I would prefer Britain or USA though considering the language affinity with them as China is certain to want to use the occasion to advance their linguistic and political systems which are bound to be targeted at subsuming ours. Besides China is known to build into any system they deliver some way of spying on other countries and our national security deserves to be protected. |

Guestmale:Sir, corruption is the problem. Take it out of government hands and you should soon see the difference. We should avoid France and China and Germany who are more adept at playing ball with our corrupt leaders and public servants than U.S.A. |
