TemporaryHansel:Of course I agree the other states and their governors have not tried especially states like Bayelsa and co when we juxtapose the resources available to them with development on ground. But we also need to be fair that some states are younger than others. Some states were just created as stand alone states in 1996 while there are states that have been in existence since the 70's. Some of those new states had to start from scratch because they were marginalized initially in the old arrangement which necessitated them being brought out of a much bigger state. Still it's no excuse that some of the states and their governors have been terribly poor. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 9:21am On May 09 |
izzou:I agree 100%. Most of the leaders just care about looting their states, and go to senate to retire. |

Kaczynski:Overrated if compared to other global cities yes, but it is not overrated if you compare it with other Nigerian states. What is a city without companies? You can't laugh at Lagos for having companies, you should direct that laugh at states that don't have companies like Akwa ibom. They should do better to attract companies. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:43am On May 09 |
Kaczynski:How is Akwa Ibom better than Lagos? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by MorataFC: 9:52am On May 09 |
Kaczynski:I dont know of about Akwa Ibom o, but my nephew went from Lagos to serve in Calabar for his NYSC, and he never came back. Since then, he hasn’t stopped talking about how peaceful and serene the place is. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:56am On May 09 |
One of the misconceptions we make when comparing states with Lagos is that we use their capital as against Lagos. When we look at Lagos, we look at the entire state .....(Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Alimosho, etc) When we look at other states, we only look at the capital and one or two towns. If you compare the entire state with Lagos, absolutely nothing dey there |

In 1999, those who were youths ie 30 years to 48 years are now the people in government. Guess what they complain about back then in 1999, the exact looting and corruption they complained about. What exactly is wrong? |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:59am On May 09 |
izzou:Exactly. There's no part of what constitutes Lagos that you won't feel government presence. Lagos is far ahead of most Nigerian states, but if other states are serious they can catch up and build much more livable and effective cities in even less than 20 years, that's assuming Lagos continues with its current style of governance. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:23am On May 09 |
Theflint1:Only "Livable" is even enough. I don't see how a state in the South cannot have access to electricity in 2026. Some communities in the South don't have "Electric poles" in their community, talk more of seeing power. See the state of some of the public schools. Our leaders in the South no dey try at all. I agree that no state may catch up with Lagos, but for all of them, only less than 3 towns, apart from their capital can be considered worthy to be in any conversation |

TemporaryHansel:Almost every country has an economic nerve centre and Lagos is that to Nigeria, it is also its former Federal Capital. There is no basis for comparimg it to ANY other state. None. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by abduleez1(m): 12:34pm On May 09 |
izzou:This is one of the problems I have with people who compare Nigeria with fellow West African countries. Countries that to a significant extent are dependent on Nigeria's economy doing well. That talk of Ghana, Togo, Benin gets light and good roads bla bla bla..... Comparing city centres, national capitals with that of an entire country with 200mn population is disingenuous. Nigeria already has more than half of the entire West African population, so how would we compare favourably in per capita metrics with far smaller countries that struggle to even get Lagos state population size. |

GloriousGbola.... How do you see this new recent CBN policy direction limiting banks foreign operations to 10% of total assets or capital based? Why this strangulation on foreign expansion especially when they just mostly concluded the recapitalisation campaign. The tier one banks now have commensurate capital base to support their overall operations and foreign appetites. Thinking about it now I remember how I read few months ago Access Bank had to drop a deal after having an agreement to buy a major South African Bank and meeting the SA regulatory requirements with all the approvals received. All but official, just waiting for the Nigerian regulator to assent to it, only for CBN to scuttle the deal by not giving approval for months. They had to cancel the acquisition after CBN was dragging it's feet I giving approval. So now CBN is saying all those massive acquisitions run and expansion Access Bank was doing across Africa, they now have to divest those investments? Omo, after all the money and energy spent? Some of Access Bank acquisitions haven't even completed a year. ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 12:55pm On May 09 |
DeepSight:Exactly! What is only expected is that other states should at least not be so far behind if they have good leaders who are mindful of developing their states. Lagos has a lot of advantages that can never be overlooked. I remember finishing NYSC and getting a job less than 2 months after returning to Lagos. Most of my friends whom we served together returned to their respective states and some didn't get meaningful jobs 2 years after POP because most banks and other companies recruit from their head office in Lagos. At some point some of them had to later settle for teaching jobs and support it with farming and other petty source of income. It's unfrotaunte somebstsye governors just decide to be unfortunate |

The NDC has zoned its presidential ticket to the South for 2027. Then the ticket will be zoned to the north in 2031 |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Spy360(m): 3:26pm On May 09 |
izzou:I visited Ajegunle recently and it's worse than most towns in other states. Lagos is only Lagos when you're looking at the high brow towns. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Spy360(m): 3:31pm On May 09 |
PDPGuy:It's the right thing to do and what was expected of ADC all the while. The more ADC lingered the more distrust grew among them and the rumours that they are designed specifically to deliver Atiku Na that the lids are off, they are now like another PDP. I am sure once Atiku wins the ticket, many others will defect |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:51pm On May 09 |
Spy360:The good thing is you can still make a decent living in any of the outskirts areas of Lagos. With a barbing salon, tailor shop, or even ordinary football viewing center you can make decent living in the hinterland of Lagos, but same can't be said about most towns in other states. |

Spy360:Worse indeed. These are pictures of a Fire Service Station in Ajegunle. The Fire Service Station in Owerri is not even as standard as this This is a school commissioned recently that can host 20,000 students. Everybody knows Tolu Complex. Let me not even talk about how their roads have been interlocked; From Achakpo, Mbah and Cardoso....All interlocked Anybody can say anything online. Ajegunle is far far better than many towns in many states

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by MorataFC: 5:36pm On May 09 |
PDPGuy:I think this arrangement will favour the North more than the South. By 2031, the coast will be clear for Kwankwaso to contest for the presidency. This means that whoever the party fields as its presidential candidate in 2027 from the south, whether the person wins or loses, he will not be eligible to contest again in 2031. Hmmm https://www.nairaland.com/8668693/2027-endorse-ndcs-zoning-presidency |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 5:54pm On May 09 |
MorataFC:Didn't Peter Obi promise to do only one term? So why are you against the zoning formula. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 6:00pm On May 09 |
One question the opposition should ask themselves is assuming Tinubu decided to run solo instead of working with buhari in 2015, would they've been able to unseat Jonathan?? Your answer to this question should tell you what will happen when Peter Obi and Atiku decide to run separately. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by MorataFC: 6:21pm On May 09 |
TemporaryHansel:Adopting this arrangement would amount to a serious political miscalculation by the South. By 2031, the presidency would be open for fresh candidates to contest, and at that point, it could be easier for a new candidate to win than it is now to unseat a sitting president. Furthermore, if Peter Obi fails to win in 2027, he will not be eligible to contest under the ADC in 2031 unless he decides to switch to another party. BTW, I’m not a supporter of him, and I’m also not a supporter of Tinubu either. I simply support good governance. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 6:33pm On May 09 |
Two things are involved in this Peter Obi & Atiku matter. 1. Between Peter Obi and Atiku, one of them is working for Tinubu. 2. Both of them have too much pride. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by abduleez1(m): 6:56pm On May 09 |
[sup][/sup] izzou:Lol, that dude is funny. Go to Agege in Lagos state that is on the outskirts and has some of the bottom barrels living standards in Lagos. The roads in Agege streets are in top tier condition and will compete with what even many states capital roads and streets can deliver. Comparing Lagos to other states is just a dishonest comparison. The advantage Lagos has is far far ahead than any other state. You can put a clueless governor in Lagos and it wouldn't make much difference cos the system just works for itself. What people might be complaining of could be for better living standards or better business climate. While most people in the state won't be complaining for better roads or infrastructure, they might be complaining for congestion free roads, less public waste and less prone to flooding neighborhoods. Quite different reality for someone who might be in Calabar, Oshogbo, Ilorin. |

GloriousGbola:Why you no agree my boss? ![]() It's a small exaggeration but such a governor's performance can't be bottom barrel development you see perpetrated in most states.... Especially that Ogun state past and present governors. |
