I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

For years, one thing I’ve noticed is that finding good opportunities often takes far more time than it should.

You open multiple platforms.

You scroll through pages of listings.

You filter through roles that don’t fit.

You open tabs, close tabs, save some, ignore some, then repeat the whole process again the next day.

Sometimes after spending all that time, you still feel like you haven’t found anything truly worth applying for.

And sometimes the really good opportunities move fast.

By the time you see them, hundreds of people are already there.

Personally, I don’t think the biggest problem is lack of opportunities.

I think a big part of the problem is the amount of noise, manual searching, and how much time it takes to find something relevant.

That can become mentally draining, especially for freelancers and remote professionals who are already trying to balance work, clients, learning, and life.

I’ve been thinking deeply about this because it’s something I’ve dealt with personally for years.

Curious — what part of remote job hunting drains you the most?

Is it the endless searching, low-quality listings, too much competition, or simply finding the right opportunities too late?

The waiting, rejection and self doubt it not easy but you can try remote jobs on WhatsApp channel or check mjblinks thread on nairaland.

It's a wave, people will eventually tire out.

The problem is everyone wants to earn in $ and this has a way of affecting the macroeconomics of the country. A lot to say but now today.

AI is also there to take certain amount of basic jobs.

Tech and other online jobs are fully saturated …. Demand is becoming lower than in today’s world.

Some things were never meant to be a “career.”

At best, they were supposed to be referred to as “gigs” and nothing more.

But as typical Nigerians, we make a mountain out of a mole.

Just the way Indians, Indonesians, Pakistanis, Argentinians, etc japa ten times more than we do but do it quietly, and we make a lot of noise about it, or also how Chinese, North Koreans, Romanians, etc. scam online 30 times more than Nigerians do it, but silently, while we come out to make a lot of noise because of our small $2000 cash out, that is the same way we made a lot of noise about those “remote” jobs.

Is just everywhere not just in tech..

Everything is competitive unless it's something that's yet to develop to full potential

Even in the next 20 years remote job will still be alive the thing is competition will keep soaring and those who quit ...

You have to be ahead and better than the other half trying same thing, that way you get what you want

It can really be a struggle. Whenever I am rejected and that happens quite a lot, I always send an email thanking them and wishing them well while saying to myself that they have lost an incredible staff to work with. This keeps my morale up. I also do my research to see where I am falling short compared to my peers in the global space and I try my very best to fill that gap.

With perosnalized AI, applying for these jobs usually take a few minutes so that's not really a hassle. Recently, a senior colleague who got a remote job confided in me that she applied to hundreds of job positions before she succeeded. I remember her story anytime I am rejected so I never stop applying.

Do not despair, all it takes is a single opportunity and your story changes forever so keep at it.

Towards the end of last year, I joined a popular training platform for remote workers because I wanted to study their business model and see whether I could replicate it elsewhere.

The admin of the WhatsApp group constantly posts testimonials from students who supposedly got jobs. Deep down, I suspect that many of those reviews are fake.

Yesterday, they shared a testimonial from a newly employed alumna. In her review, she claimed that aside from the juicy salary, the company would also sponsor her overseas trip and even provide her with an official car.

An official car for a remote worker?

Whenever I check the number of persons that register for the course, and multiply it by the fee...

Omoh... I'd rather be training people than applying for any remote role.

Very valid points you raised there, truly something's are not even meant for Nigerians because they tends to blow almost everything that comes there way out of proportion

Finding remote job in Nigeria is like pulling tooth, especially if you don't have experience.

Many people failed to understand that it's competition that kills businesses sometimes. The field is too saturated, in years to cone, it might get harder because of the advancement of AI.

I think remote job hunting is a game of numbers, I spent like 4 months or so in 2023 focused on doing remote jobs.

I do python tests sotey I tire.

I finally got one, the money wasn't great but at all at all na bastid...

I got the confirmation letter and all and we were supposed to commence training via a slack channel.

SO we were given some basic registration to do and it involved opening an account with one international transfer company like this and I couldn't. I sha complained and they said that they typically don't take people from Nigeria cos of the many issues that come with dealing with people in Nigeria, of which the payment problem was primary.

E pain me so much, I think that was one of the last application I have done till date.

It didn’t work for mr A doesn’t mean it won’t work for mr B.

That my guy his sister have a remote job back then that pays $7 per hour .
