Why this strangulation on foreign expansion especially when they just mostly concluded the recapitalisation campaign. The tier one banks now have commensurate capital base to support their overall operations and foreign appetites.

Thinking about it now I remember how I read few months ago Access Bank had to drop a deal after having an agreement to buy a major South African Bank and meeting the SA regulatory requirements with all the approvals received. All but official, just waiting for the Nigerian regulator to assent to it, only for CBN to scuttle the deal by not giving approval for months.

They had to cancel the acquisition after CBN was dragging it's feet I giving approval.

So now CBN is saying all those massive acquisitions run and expansion Access Bank was doing across Africa, they now have to divest those investments? Omo, after all the money and energy spent? Some of Access Bank acquisitions haven't even completed a year.

I don't know if it's a response to a supposed deprioritization of the domestic lending market. But I hear it's CBN way of reducing foreign exposure and controlling foreign exchange and limit dividend payouts to foreign subsidiaries.

The limit is not on foreign interest but rather asking banks under their supervision not to export capital to foreign entities or offshore banks under the guise of acquisitions and expansion funding. At the very least, mustnt exceed 10% equity contribution.

Its not just a response to deprioritisation of the domestic lending market, it's just a way of discouraging every other thing but lending which has always been their focus. If they're not pumping money in risk free treasury bills, they're the biggest investors in FGN bonds, which is why they largely declare trillions in profit even when the economy is comatose.

In developed markets, banks performance largely correlates with the economy but the rent seeking nature of our banks no follow.

CBN is just doing their job rightfully as the regulator, It's also a way to curtail the high likelihood of FX demand and currency risk that comes with funding most of these acquisitions. Think about the contagion risk that would come with any of those offshore banks failing. Let those banks go and restructure their holdings ( Access Banks sits at the top of this table)

Go to Agege in Lagos state that is on the outskirts and has some of the bottom barrels living standards in Lagos. The roads in Agege streets are in top tier condition and will compete with what even many states capital roads and streets can deliver.

Comparing Lagos to other states is just a dishonest comparison. The advantage Lagos has is far far ahead than any other state. You can put a clueless governor in Lagos and it wouldn't make much difference cos the system just works for itself.
What people might be complaining of could be for better living standards or better business climate.

While most people in the state won't be complaining for better roads or infrastructure, they might be complaining for congestion free roads, less public waste and less prone to flooding neighborhoods. Quite different reality for someone who might be in Calabar, Oshogbo, Ilorin.

It could be Aza issues and it may be something else like cult related killings. One thing that is certain is Nigeria as a country is one place you shouldn't offend people any how because there are so many unforgiving people in this country and they can always take out vexation on you without the law catching up with them.

There was a case of one Ugo guy that trended all through the weekend on Twitter. The guy spent 10m proposing to his naija babe, spent millions on their wedding, sponsored her relocation to the UK with millions of naira and paid her tuition in a UK varsity. The lady ended up cheating in him with another bloke in Manchester and the guy was crashing out on Twitter.

I told someone yesterday that an unforgiven person in that guy's shows count even make that much crashing out noise online. He would give her the silent treatment, allow her think he's a fool for getting "run-street"....then he would continue to monitor her.

He would wait for when she goes to naija where the law doesn't work and treat her mess up. He can have all her family members either kidnapped or murdered or worse. She may even be subjected to worse. It's a good thing the guy in questuon is free minded and chose to express his feelings online. People wey genuinely wicked dey this country well well o
