In Nigeria, there has been this belief that has going on for as long as I can remember about giving malt drink and milk to a person in emergency situations or accidents. For example, they usually try to use this combination to revive a person who was just electrocuted. This is just one of many examples.
Please, who really came up with this because it has been going on even before the popular yoruba actor Adekola Odunlade mentioned it in a movie 16 or 17 years ago.

Nigerians are funny people, not only malt + milk sef. I've been seeing people combine these stuffs as blood tonic since I was a child :

Malt + Tin tomato

Malt + Pumpkin (Ugwu leaf)

Some even kick against going to the pharmacy to buy blood tonic, dem go tell you say e nor dey work fast.
