Phred1717:
Similarities between Homeland Security and Ministry of Internal Service in Nigeria
1.Policing oversight
2. prison services
3. immigration,
4. fire service
5. civil defense.
All these Agencies and federal parastatals like, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Federal Fire Service (FFS) are all structure in Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs.
PBAT why another office for the boys
Policing isn’t under internal affairs. And I think homeland security should oversee NSCDC to be honest. It should be off interior ministry.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, the Presidency announced on Monday.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). It was electronically signed by Chris Ugwuegbulam, its Head of Information and Public Relations.

According to the statement, the appointment was made “in recognition of his exceptional record of service, strategic expertise, and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s national security architecture.”

The statement explained that the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination and intelligence operations across the country.

It stated that the appointment “underscores the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and deepening inter-agency collaboration in addressing emerging security threats across the country.”

According to the statement, the circular announcing the appointment was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

Major General Fadewa (retd.) is described as a highly decorated retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy and international security diplomacy.

The Presidency noted that he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between 2015 and 2021.

During his time at ONSA, he reportedly led efforts to establish the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve coordination among Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies.

The statement said the platform brought together the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces “to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination.”

Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reforms.

The statement also highlighted his scholarly work, including a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which it described as offering “practical frameworks for strengthening civil-security collaboration.”

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would strengthen the administration’s homeland security efforts.

According to the statement, the President believes the appointment “will further enhance the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.”

Tinubu also urged the retired officer “to deploy his wealth of experience, professionalism, and strategic insight in advancing national security objectives and supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The purchase by Nigeria of more advanced weapons such as LEO satellite tracking technologies, attack drones and surveillance drones are urgently needed to degrade the highly IRRESPONSIBLE foreign Fula militia bandits from the West African Sahel attacking several communities, the foreign Tuareg-led Lakurawas, BH, ISWAP, JNIM jihadi terrorists groups attacking Nigeria from Mali.

State and community Policing MUST be established immediately as well to bring security management closer to the affected communities instead of waiting for the FG to help all the time.

Is this the beginning of the subtle replacement of Ribadu? Why have a National Security Adviser and then a Special Adviser on Homeland Security? Taiwo Oyedele and Wale Edun comes to mind.
Another window dressing exercise to waste money and for the optics.
They'll start pushing this appointment as one of his major achievements and show of seriousness over insecurity.

There are too many redundant agencies and institutions in nigeria. Half of them are replications of already existing and functional bodies.

ICPC and EFCC (Anti-corruption agencies). NSA and Homeland security (Security agencies). ISO and SON (Quality control bodies). Neco and GCE (Education bodies). Nigerian Police and NSCDC (civil paramilitary bodies). Etc.

And it's even more annoying that these bodies are not even made to offer efficient services to the public, rather just propped as cash cows to deplete our annual budgets with very minimal outputs😐.
U forget to add SSS and DSS😂

Tinubu will attempt to hand over to Ribadu if he eventually conclude his 2 term. Ribadus position is literally the most secure in PBAT government. Well unless he rebel. National security is also different from homeland security. Homeland secures the land, national could as well meddle in spy matters and cross border security matters.
Are you the one defining this or this is the definition from government because we have interior ministry for a reason. We have Secret Service for a reason. We have immigration for a reason. We have Navy, Police, Civil Defence and Army for a reason. We have the intelligence and security agencies for a reason.

Their jobs are entirely different. It’s just because we’ve mixed everything together in Nigeria that’s why it seems odd to you. For example, Secret service are meant to protect high ranking political officials and nothing more, the military primary job is defending the country against external aggression I.e against other country military. Immigration protects the borders. Police maintain laws and orders in the country with many other special squads including homeland security jobs. At the moment in Nigeria, only civil defense are doing actual homeland security job. Interior office are mostly concerned with internal affairs of a country not basically the internal security of a country. Intelligence have the power to work outside the shores of the country. So only homeland are majorly task with securing the country against internal security risk.

So you want him to choose from the terrorist's sympathisers from the north of Ibo/obidients saboteurs who will sabotage his efforts ?

It goes without saying that the only thing obedients want is the fall and failure of this govt in order to give vent to their criticism.

In the history of this country, obidients are the first to wish the destruction of the country just because they chose to hate the person of the president and never seen any good in his policies.
They turn a blind eye to successes but make a mountain out of any flaw.

It must come home to roost. Being in the opposition does not mean you must always which your country evil.
When you give him such overt impression he cannot but mistrust you.

Nigeria was expected to collapse economically 6 or 7 months from June 2023.
Nigeria's crude production had been sold upfront for hundreds of billions of dollars without a trace.
Govt was borrowing to pay salaries despite the huge amounts made from the crude sale.
Money owed to China and other global lenders by the Buhari govt was an open secret and subject of public debate.
Immediately after the handover, everybody forgot all about this as if we expect these problem to disappear with the outgoing govt

Everybody agreed fuel subsidy must go, except if the others were living.
This man removed it and publicly told the nation that hard times were ahead and we should brace for it but that the end shall justify the means but we pretend he didn't warn us.
How we expect to away with fuel subsidy without a harsh fallout is what I don't understand.

America, Greece, Italy and some europeañs went into recession in recent decades but the citizens did not wish the fall of the govts and their countries but cooperated to see the countries through.

We have been so used to govts telling us lies in this country so much so that when the one that takes us into confidence came, we fail to believe and do the needful

The president is the GCFR. His NSA is simply doing the coordination of security issues for him. Internal or external. There's a reason Rubio met with Ribadu. We modeled this after the US and they do both internal and external security and intelligence.

The President does not have time to have security threats to be told to him in different buckets. That is the job of the NSA.

Gwarzo was Abacha's NSA on paper but he used Mustapha more because of his style to confuse his enemies and put fear in everyone. Ribadu's role right now is a trusted role for foreign threats. They did not mix anything up. He coordinates all security intelligence for the President and advises him on it.
