People on the field benefiting are thanking Tinubu, a jobless man with no hope for the future is telling then what their experience is even when he as never been close to them.
Some people don't know what inflation has done to Nigerian economy, 160k around 2004 to 2005 is about $1200 that's about 1.6M today. Those that don't know what inflation has done to Naira will never understand the evil APC has done

Keep it as a side hustle. This farm cannot make you live the life you want. You will just be managing. It won't even be able to pay your children's school fees if u want them to go to a good school

My wife and I still farm on the remaining part of the land for consumption. I don't buy yams, corn or cocumbers. I simply get them from my small farm. Truly, Agriculture has helped me to mitigate the shocks of the Nigeria Economy.
Please OP, sorry to bother you. Why are many people not investing in cocoa farming as Nigeria has the potentials to be a world producer? Do you have plans to expand?

I inherited seven stems of Cocoa with a plot of land in the village that was only good for Agriculture from my dad about 5 years ago when he transion to the other side. I was struggling with a Para military job that the pay couldn't take me home.

I decided to look homeward. Applied for study leave, went back home to my father's land, cleared the only plot he had and extended the cocoa farm of seven stems to about 300 stems as at today.

I initially did 900 nursery for transplant but only about 300 survived.

Today my farm pays me more than what I spent 5years to study in school.
@the phrase in bold is exactly the way our ancestors said it.

They never said death because they never believed that someone dies. They said someone has gone to be with the ancestors or has left.

I can proudly call myself a farmer. It sounds funny when I say I'm a farmer when ever I'm asked what I do for a living. People still under rate farmers to this day. Farming cash crops Is the best. My children will inherit my farm just the way I inherited from my father.
When I got married, I told my father inlaw I was a farmer, he wondered how ill take care of his daughter,. But today major family decisions can't be taken without consulting me. Thanks to President BAT the high rate of foreign exchange has been one of the reason cocoa prizes are high
Our Farming 🧺 Is No Where:
May God bless your hustle 👍.
• Farming is a Gold Mine - especially the Cash Crops like Cocoa,Cutton, Even Big Time Fish Farming, Chicken 🐔 -Rearing,Pig- Farming 🧺 ,Cassava Production -are What A Serious Govt:
• Should Consider,
• Have Yearly and Regular Budgets For those Who Are into them- Not the ones The Govt-( Fed, States and Local in Nigeria - are doing in their Offices)- as they are Not Serious,
• For example,Ondo and Ekiti - used to be known as Cocoa Centres - during the Awolowo Era- in the Western Region then, but today, everybody has turned to become Emergency Oil 🪔🛢️ Contractors,
- But we now Importing Rice - Food FROM Indian of 1.4 Billions People?
•Who is deceiving one another⁉️
• Indian is Exporting Foods items to Nigeria- Soon, they will be there- to learn, abi?
Chinese will Soon bring Exports of Food to us,
Farming By Various Nigerian Govts- are Done On Papers Not On the Land,
No Govt- Support - Budgets Are for Boys/ Politicians,
No CBN Agriculture Interventions- for example, why Can't the CBN Lower Interest Rates Fit the Farmers to between 2- 3% p.annum and allow the Nigerians to Benefits,
Established Farmers Co- Operatives in Different States,
And Each States - Also have Selected Farms To use as a Model.
•But Can Govt( Fed and States),
Public -Where the Yearly Agriculture Ministries Budgets ( Money Goes⁉️
But it's All About POLITICS ,
- how to Steal the Oil- Money 💰, that one is Easy but Farming 🧺 Is Being Neglected -All Over Nigeria , even as the North Claim Insecurity Since many Decades Now !
The Youths-like the Brother in the Cocoa Farming above is just on God's Mercy not by Encouragement From the Federal and States!
• Let us remember, that Votedviore ( Ivory Coast) - Has Cocoa - as the ONLY Means of Survival and they becomes Great today,by Global 🌍 Rating!
• Our Govt-and All their Farming Agencies -Are Nowhere to be found-for Farming is Done In Nigeria On Pages of Social Media and Paper works 🥵

Your Education positioned you on this critical thinking and assesments made you to evaluate your situation, hence the seeking of study leave,

in essence dont look down upon your education, it comes handy.

ok oh the high exchange rate Favour’s u and u are happy don’t forget manufacturing companies are suffering because of what is giving u joy now. U had also planed to live the farm for ur children. Don’t also forget that high exchange rate is not good for the country. Imagine that 1 dollar is equal #500, the price of a liter of petrol would have been like #450 as compared to what it is now. Above all we pray for a better leader. Don’t forget Tinubu can not be there for ever. U can still make more money in a better Nigeria by expanding ur farm instead of leveraging on bad situations because it might not last.

AngelSlay:
This is powerful — and deeply relatable.

You inherited what many people would have overlooked: just seven cocoa stems and a piece of land that seemed useful only for farming. At a time when life wasn’t giving you much room financially, instead of complaining about your para-military salary, you made a hard but intentional decision to return home and build from what your father left behind.

That part really stands out.

You took study leave, returned to the village, cleared the land yourself, planted 900 seedlings, watched many fail, and still kept going even when only about 300 survived. Most people would have seen that loss as a sign to quit, but you treated it as part of the learning curve.

And now, five years later, that same farm is generating more income than the degree you spent years earning.

That’s not just a farming story — it’s a story about vision, resilience, and recognizing value where others see limitation.

It also says something important about inheritance: sometimes parents may not leave millions in the bank, but they leave assets, land, knowledge, or opportunities that can become wealth in the hands of someone willing to build.

Your dad left seven cocoa stems.
You turned it into 300.
That’s legacy multiplied.

May your farm continue to grow, and may your story encourage more young people to see agriculture as a real business opportunity rather than a last resort. Respect to you for choosing action over excuses.

Are you using style to tell us you are one of the richest in your community?

PDPdestroyer:
Instead of ranting productive time away on nairaland, you took your destiny in your own hands. Imagine if anonimi (and iwaeda) had invested the amount of time he spends ranting daily on nairaland since 2015(11 years wasted) on something this productive, he would be one of the richest in his community. grin
I wish you bigger wins brother

I don't understand how people who live in rainforest region refuse to feed themselves. Farming should be included as a God-given right. What's the difference between those who blame the FG that they import petrol and the Nigerian man who buys bulk of his food stuff in the market? A man will interlock his whole compound and turn around to complain about prices of yam, pepper, tomatoes, vegetables in the market. People will appear helpless even in the basic things they can use to help themselves. Oh well...

Congratulations OP.

Why do most Nigerians run away from farming
Small time farmers in the past didn't have the ease of access to information, technology, and trade that we do today. As a result, it wasn't as lucrative for smaller farms.
