“DON’T DRINK WATER IN CHURCH” — Pastor David Obiyeome’s Strict Rules Spark Massive Debate Online (VIDEO) A viral video of popular preacher David Obiyeome is currently causing serious reactions across social media after he issued strong warnings about behavior inside church. During a church service, the founder of Salvation Ministries warned members against chewing gum, drinking water, and using phones inside the auditorium. According to him: “You’re not a goat. Don’t chew gum in church. Don’t drink water in church. If you want to drink water, go outside. Don’t use phone at all in church.” His comments have now divided Nigerians online. While some people say the pastor is absolutely right about discipline and reverence in God’s house, others believe the rules are too extreme and outdated for modern worship. But the BIG question people are now asking is: Has church become too casual nowadays… or are some pastors becoming too controlling? The reactions under the video are even more shocking than the sermon itself. Irrespective of my personal opinion about the man... He is right on this matter. Many Nigerians are not disciplined and don't know how to behave in public. He is absolutely right on this one! |

Naturally, chewing of gum keeps some people awake and active . Tho some see it as a bad habit, I don't see anything wrong in it, if chewed reasonably and decently. One could feel thirsty at anytime and a sip or gulp of water is all they need. |

He is 100% right on this one. Most Nigerians are not disciplined. Unless on medical ground, it disgust me when I see people come to church with snacks and drinks for a church program thsts less than 3 hours. Even of you're coming with a toddler, as long as the were fed before coming out, they should be able to hold on for 3 hours and this practice of coming to church with food is common amongst poor people (no disrespect intended). As a Catholic, I know I won't stay in church for more than 3 hours. Sometime last year, my family and I went to a church program and during prayer my husband and I go distracted for few minutes. In less than 2 minutes i notice that my baby (a toddler) was holding cheese balls. I asked the woman behind us and she confirmed that she was the one that gave her (i almost ran mad) when she said she gave my child snacks because first of all, you don't know the feeding program of a parent on their child so how dare you give my baby food without my permission. Secondly, it shows how undiscipline you're as a parent if your child (if not sick) can't stay for 3 hours without putting something in their mouth and it even more disgusting if it's an adult that's eating in the church. My baby was once crying and a woman asked me to go and buy her biscuits (she comes to church with snacks and carbonated drinks every Sunday) i no just answer am, pamper my pikin to stop cry. |

Muslims don't drink water, eat or chew gum n mosques during their prayers...By so doing, they show by example how others should respect their religion and Prophet If Christians choose not to respect their own Jesus by behaving anyhow in Church, then what basis do they have to demand such respect from others? If these same Christians are before even a Local Government Chairman, they won't be eating, drinking and chewing gum in his presence ![]() I don't like Pastor Ibiyeomie, but but he is right on this one.. |

Before you attack him, he's saying don't drink water inside the church auditorium If you want to, go outside the church building to do so You may disagree with him but he's not said anything that's not practiced by most churches and religion |

Lol... I think the issue here is the lack of understanding of the context of the clergyman's statements. Apart from the water part, the rest are just common sense worship etiquettes. Will you be chewing gum when in a board meeting with the likes of Bill Gates, Elumelu, Dangote, Mark Cuban, Trump, etc?!! Will you be focused on your phone or have it ringing out, or even taking calls while in such gatherings?!! If you have no respect for a gathering of worship, why not stay at home?!! Life no really hard na. |

Even when some people could be on medication or for therapeutic reasons. Men would just be dishing out regulations God didn't send them. Banning Chewing gum, that's understandable. But water, no no. |

richmond500:Did you go to sleep in church? If you don't want to attend the church, don't. There are some restaurants that don't allow mobile phones, I don't go there. There are some restaurants that use QR code, I don't go there because I like physical books. To each his own. |

There's nothing wrong with what he said. The problem is that many hate discipline to the point that they misbehave in God's presence... |
