Why are the world’s "happiest" nations also the ones consuming the most antidepressants? Iceland, Australia, and the UK consistently rank high on global quality-of-life indexes, yet they lead the pack in daily doses. From economic stability to sunlight exposure, the factors vary wildly but the numbers tell a startling story about our global well-being. What do you think is the biggest driver behind these numbers? What’s your take on these rankings? Let’s discuss in the comments! 👇 Antidepressant Consumption per 1,000 People per Day 💊Source

When I'm not happy, I take a stroll; the moment I enter the streets for Nigeria or enter social media, I will see something that will make me happy and take away my pains Our being religious has also been helpful. We keep hope alive irrespective of the difficulties. I love my people. Great people bad leaders |

Hmmmm.... I wonder why depression is so great in developed parts of the world compared to Africa nay Nigeria! Religion is a big factor, because common man depend on God mostly in Africa than in Europe or America where government is concerned with needs of its citizens. There are no sorrows in God's presence.(Psalm 16: 11) While Africa has many challenges, we are joyful 😁 because we know to pray and worship in our problems. |

Yankiss:Pscyhiatric issues are stigmatized here. If someone wants to get married, and they find out by chance that someone in the bride or bridegroom family is taking antidepressants or has been admitted to psych ward for depression, that can shut down the marriage fast. A lot of Nigerians suffer in silence because stigma. |

If you look at the past centuries and what Africans go through, you would be surprised how we survive. Suffering and Smiling in our genes withstand a great deal of assaults from those outside Africa in search of free labor and untapped resources. Worse, even our own leaders have exploited same, from political to religious leaders. This is why like crabes fight one another and pull one another down from the barrel. In Nigeria, call it political opportunities to loot the Treasury. |

Black African countries in general and Nigeria in particular have very low record and statistics keeping compared to these western countries regarding many things, we don't have stats and records of what's injested especially for such things as depression etc most of which are alien to us as illnesses. With the level of hardship faced, we have more worries but these are managed in unorthodox manners without records etc, so the statistics here may not be all-encompassing ![]() |

CodeTemplar:IN Nigeria, the default is everyone be sociable. You cannot step out of your house without having someone greet you. Low finances means that people live in community style residences so to speak. And talking a lot to people na good anti-depressant. Abroad? People keep themselves to themselves. Unless you join a church or a group of people that share a hobby, or you force yourself to make friends, you do dey by yourself. Loneliness...soil for depression. Opium can worsen depression o. |

Nigerians don't need antidepressants, depression is a way of life here now. The slogan is " who kill himself Na him lose". The popular of diagnosing mental disorder in Nigeria, is when you start walking along the road aimlessly, some go still even say you dey form. |

Dogalmighty17:Sadness is not depression. If you know the depression they are talking about. You no go even fit leave your house buy Alomo. Its mental illness. The warm weather alone does a lot against depression. The sun always giving vitamin D helps too. Some of them no de baff, brush teeth or leave their bed for days. Their mind literally lose the will to survive or be alive. |
