In times like these, where many people are struggling quietly and opportunities are becoming harder to access, this kind of support can genuinely change someone’s direction. I have been a member of Nairaland for about 10 years and one thing this platform gave me was a space to think, write, learn, interact with people, and share ideas around life, health, society, personal growth, and Nigeria’s realities. My opinions may sometimes be strong, but I have always tried to contribute thoughtfully and avoid hate or tribalism. I gradually developed deep interests in technology, digital health, writing, research, and innovation. For a long time, I tried building myself with the resources available to me. I previously had a laptop which I used extensively for learning, writing, research, and publishing books on Amazon KDP as an independent writer. I spent countless nights teaching myself, writing manuscripts, editing alone, researching ideas, and trying to create something meaningful despite the limitations around me. Unfortunately, things took a turn last year. My Amazon KDP account got blocked, which was honestly a major setback for me emotionally and financially because I had invested a lot of time and effort into that journey. Subsequently my laptop also developed serious faults and became unreliable for productive work. Since then, trying to continue many of my projects through a phone and unstable alternatives has been frustrating and limiting. There were moments I genuinely felt stuck because it is painful when you are trying to move forward, trying to learn, trying to build ideas, but your tools and circumstances keep slowing you down. Still, I have not given up. Instead of abandoning everything, I decided to step back, restrategize, learn from my mistakes, and rebuild myself properly. I had to look for ways to publish my books on selar (i have an image to support this). (LinkedIn profile is on my signature.) I still spend time learning, researching, writing ideas, exploring new concepts, AI tools, digital opportunities in practical ways. If selected, I plan to use the laptop for: • Writing and rebuilding my publishing journey properly. • Learning more technical and AI related skills. • Online courses and professional development. • Building ideas around healthcare innovation. • Venture into graphics design. • Remote work and productivity tasks that are difficult to handle effectively on a phone. What makes this opportunity important to me is not just the laptop itself, but what it represents. For me, it would mean having a stable tool to continue rebuilding again after a difficult setback. I may not have everything figured out yet, but I know I am genuinely trying to grow, learn, and create something meaningful with my life despite the challenges. Firstly, I'd like to give kudos to this initiative and those behind it. I am a middle class Electrical power engineer who has been adversely affected by the current economic situation, I have a family to feed, bills to pay and responsibilities to cater for, however, despite working for one of the largest DISCOs in Nigeria, I find it hard to make ends meet without taking loans or running into debts monthly. The cycle is a vicious one. Rather than sulk or sit and complain endlessly, this has spurred me towards tech but the only limitation i have is the lack of a gadget, hence I would be greatly blessed to get one of these laptops as it would help me in my tech journey which would in turn change my fortune in the nearest future. Good day Mayorall and fellow Nairalanders. I’m a final year student and honestly, getting this laptop would mean a lot to me. Throughout my school journey, I’ve had to depend on borrowing people’s laptops anytime I want to type assignments, work on projects, seminars, or do research😭. Sometimes I have to wait for hours or even days before I can get one to use, and it has really affected my work and added more stress to an already stressful final year. Right now, I’m working on my final year project, and not having a personal laptop has been very difficult. There are days I stay up late trying to meet deadlines because the laptop I borrowed has to be returned quickly. I can’t afford to buy one myself because of my financial situation, and my family is trying their best just to support my education. If I’m privileged to be selected, I’ll use the laptop mainly for my academics — project writing, research, online classes, learning digital skills, and storing my study materials properly. It will also help me improve myself professionally and reduce the stress and embarrassment that comes with constantly begging to borrow laptops from friends. I know many people deserve this opportunity, but I’ll truly be grateful if I’m considered.
