Troops Eliminate Scores of Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Major Offensive Along AKK Pipeline in Niger

Troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated scores of terrorists and recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment during coordinated fighting patrols and follow-up exploitation operations along the AKK Pipeline corridor near Kafin Koro in Niger State.

The sources said the operation commenced on May 10 during a fighting patrol towards Sarkin Power axis along the AKK Pipeline route.

According to the sources, troops came in contact with heavily armed terrorists at about 4:30 p.m. and engaged them in a fierce firefight.

“The terrorists were overwhelmed by superior firepower and suffered heavy casualties during the encounter,” the source said.

The sources disclosed that the terrorists initially withdrew from the area but later regrouped and launched a counterattack on the troops’ location.

However, the troops successfully repelled the renewed attack, forcing the terrorists to flee into nearby forests with gunshot wounds.

Military authorities confirmed that one terrorist was neutralised during the initial encounter, while several others were believed to have been killed or wounded during the prolonged exchange of fire.

Items initially recovered from the scene included 246 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, four motorcycles, one Baofeng radio set and two mobile handsets abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The sources further disclosed that troops conducted detailed exploitation operations at about 6:30 a.m. on May 11 around the general area and made additional recoveries.

Additional items recovered included one PKM machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, 400 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle, another Baofeng radio set and one additional handset.

The sources said there were no casualties among the troops and no equipment was lost during the operations.

According to military authorities, the operations formed part of ongoing offensives aimed at securing critical national infrastructure, particularly the AKK Pipeline corridor, and denying terrorists and bandits freedom of action across vulnerable communities in Niger State.

The military added that troops had remained on maximum alert while clearance, fighting patrols and area domination operations continued within the general area.

Military sources further stated that troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained high as sustained pressure was being mounted on terrorists and criminal elements operating within the North-Central region.

ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA, IN COLLABORATION WITH UNITED STATES FORCES, NEUTRALIZE SENIOR ISIS COMMANDER

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with United States forces has successfully conducted a meticulously planned and highly coordinated counterterrorism operation resulting in the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior ISIS leader and one of the world’s most active terrorists.

The precision operation was the result of our recently formed U.S. - Nigeria partnership and intelligence sharing efforts. Together, we have disrupted a violent terrorist network that endangered Nigeria and the broader West African region. Our efforts represent a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria, the Lake Chad Basin, the Sahel region and globally.

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was a key ISIS operational and strategic figure who provided guidance to ISIS entities outside Nigeria on matters relating to media operations, economic warfare and the development and manufacturing of weapons, explosives and drones. His death removes a critical node through which ISIS coordinated and directed operations across different regions of the world.

Intelligence further indicates that, as recently as February 2026, Minuki may have been elevated to the position of Head of the General Directorate of States, placing him the second most senior leader within the ISIS global hierarchy.

Prior to this, Minuki served in 2023 as the Nigeria-based al-Furqan GDP Office Emir, overseeing ISIS-linked operations across the Sahel and West Africa, including attacks against civilians, particularly ethnic and religious minority communities.

The terrorist leader also maintained longstanding operational ties with ISIS-West Africa and was linked to the 2018 Dapchi kidnapping of over 100 schoolgirls. Intelligence records further show that between March 2015 and early 2016, he facilitated the movement of fighters to Libya in support of ISIS operations in North Africa. Before pledging allegiance to ISIS in 2015, Minuki was also recognized as a prominent leader within Boko Haram.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterate that this successful operation demonstrates Nigeria’s unwavering resolve to confront terrorism and deny extremist groups the ability to threaten national, regional and international security.

The operation equally underscores the importance of our Nigeria-United States collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated military action in defeating transnational terrorist networks.

The Defence Headquarters commends the gallantry, professionalism and dedication of all personnel involved in the operation and appreciates the continued partnership and support of United States forces in the collective fight against terrorism.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain steadfast in ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, protecting civilians and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the nation and the wider region.

Maybe the AC-130J Ghostrider, but from what I heard, the US forces did not deploy any combat platforms, rather it was the Nigerian forces. I’ve never seen firepower like this in airstrike footages of the airforce or army UAV command.

Who did the U.S. kill in Nigeria overnight

U.S. forces, in partnership with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, killed Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Mainuki, the head of ISIS’s Maktab al-Furqan. Maktab al-Furqan is the ISIS office that oversees ISIS operational activities across West Africa and the Sahel, including the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Nigeria and the Islamic State Sahel Province (ISSP), which operates across Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, as well as networks in Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya.

Its core responsibilities include the distribution of funds, reportedly reallocating up to 50 percent of revenue from larger provinces to sustain smaller affiliates, the management of financial channels such as bank accounts and cryptocurrencies, and oversight of operational support and training.

The office plays a central role in sustaining ISIS’s financial architecture across Africa. While overall funding levels have declined in recent years due to internal weaknesses within ISWAP, Maktab al-Furqan remains critical to enabling operations across the Sahel.

Back to Abu Bakr. He was a Nigerian national born in 1982 in Borno State. Active within ISIS networks since at least 2018, he is assessed to have been a key figure in coordinating financial and operational activity across the region and continued to support ISIS-linked operations throughout West Africa.

Did the U.S. kill the #2 of ISIS?

No.

It depends on how you define the #2 of ISIS. If you view it as the deputy to the Emir of ISIS, Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, then the #2 is Abu Saleh al-Obaidi, who is currently in Syria with Abu Hafs. If you view the #2 as the head of ISIS’s Senior Shura, then it is Sheikh Abdul Qadir Mumin, who is currently based in Puntland, Somalia.

Did the U.S. kill the head of global operations for ISIS?

No.

The head of ISIS global operations is Hasan Ali Mujwal Hussein. He was appointed on May 17, 2025, following the death of Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, aka Abu Khadija al-Iraqi. His deputy for global operations is Abu Ja’afar al-Shalahi. These are the two terrorists currently leading ISIS external plotting efforts against the U.S. homeland.

This strike seen in the video is clearly from a Helicopter gunship.

Only the NAF has helicopters in the area that can shoot tracer rounds.

There's an MQ-9 reaper providing overwatch, but the target was destroyed by a Nigerian Air Force T-129 ATAK helicopter.

There's no evidence whatsoever of an AC-130J deployment on any of flight tracking radars at the time prior or after this engagement.

TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI NEUTRALISE TERRORISTS, RESCUE VICTIMS, RECOVER ARMS, AMMUNITION AND EXPLOSIVES ACROSS NORTH EAST THEATRE

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), operating under Operation DESERT SANITY and related missions, have recorded significant operational successes across the theatre, including the neutralisation of terrorists, rescue of abducted persons, recovery of arms, ammunition and explosive ordnance, as well as the arrest of criminal collaborators.

In sustained offensive operations, troops of OPHK, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), conducted coordinated offensives in the Valle, Ashigashiya and Gakara general areas. During the operations, troops made contact with suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower, neutralising two insurgents, while others fled towards the Ngoshe axis. The area was subsequently cleared, with no casualties recorded among own troops.

Similarly, troops operating along the Bravo Kilo 10 axis intercepted suspected terrorists and engaged them effectively, neutralising one insurgent. Items recovered from the encounter included a radio set and a mobile phone.

Further demonstrating operational effectiveness, troops conducting offensive operations along the Ngoshe–Amuda corridor rescued an eight-year-old boy abducted during the 3 March 2026 attack on Ngoshe community. The victim, identified as Abubakar Mublagha, was medically evaluated and reunited with his family.

In a related development, troops of OPHK conducting operations around Uvaha, a deserted village along the Gwoza–Limankara axis, rescued a 20-year-old abducted Fulani male identified as Dahiru Ahamdu. The victim disclosed that he escaped from his captors following intense artillery bombardments by troops, which struck terrorist camps, neutralised two insurgents and created panic within the enclave. He further revealed that he was abducted on 8 May 2026 while grazing cattle at Bororo village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State and subsequently held in a terrorist hideout within the Mandara Mountains. The victim has since undergone medical examination and was successfully reunited with his family through community leadership.

In a separate operation, troops of OPHK deployed at Buni Gari, acting on credible intelligence, recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosive ordnance abandoned by fleeing terrorists in the Magza general area. Items recovered included four 40mm RPG bombs, one 81mm mortar bomb and four 60mm mortar bombs. The explosives were safely secured by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams.

In another development, troops of OPHK arrested a suspected collaborator identified as Kuti Muhammad, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), over alleged links with terrorist elements. The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.

Similarly, troops of OPHK swiftly responded to a reported armed robbery incident in Garin Gwigwi village, Biu Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Aliyu Mamadu, Umar Mohammed and Adamu Aliyu. Items recovered included mobile phones, suspected illicit substances, charms, jewellery, cash, a dagger, a Quranic booklet and a locally made firearm. A Dane gun earlier reported stolen was recovered and returned to its rightful owner after due verification. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices.

Additionally, troops in conjunction with local hunters arrested four suspected cattle rustlers and terrorist collaborators at Kwaya Kusar Market with six rustled cattle. The suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigation.

Troops across all operational areas of OPHK continue to maintain high vigilance and an aggressive operational posture aimed at denying terrorists and criminal elements freedom of action within the North East theatre. The Joint Task Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to sustaining ongoing operations aimed at defeating terrorism, restoring lasting peace and security, and promoting socio-economic stability across the North East region.

The Military High Command commends the troops for their professionalism, resilience and sustained operational successes, while urging them to maintain the current momentum in the collective interest of national security.
