I am considering buying either a Toyota Avalon Limited 2017 or a Toyota Camry XLE 2018/2019.

Honestly, I really love the Avalon. The comfort, space, and premium feel are what attract me to it, and I’ve wanted one for a long time.

But the issue is resale value in Nigeria. I’m thinking long term too — maybe 4–5 years from now if I decide to sell it.

Some people say the Camry is the smarter choice because it sells faster and has stronger market demand, while others say life is too short not to drive the car you truly want.

If you were in my shoes as a car guy, dealer, mechanic, or seller:
Which would you go for and why?

My major considerations are:
• Resale value
• Maintenance
• Fuel economy
• Comfort
• Availability of parts
• Overall “package” for Nigerian roads

I’d really like to hear honest opinions from people who have owned or driven both.

Drive Avalon in some old southwestern cities (eg Ilesa, iwo, ife, Ado, some corners of Akure, and ondo town,) with narrow roads+busy traffic+plenty Okada and keke, and then you will understand that what tat dude is talking about has nothing to do with heights.

Though for uniquness and confortable ride in terms of balance and speed avalon carried the day.. but for maintanance and fuel consumption please go for camry

You will sell the Avalon 2017 faster than that 2019 Camry .

From my experience with Avalon from 2013-18 is the same just the front bumper .

1st picture is 2013-15 have the same bumper .
2nd picture is 2016-18 have the same bumper .

You can actually buy 2013 limited and change the bumper to 2018 nobody will notice the year unless you tell them. Or you can just add little money and go for the 2019 with different bumper entirely.

Why not buy Camry 2000 and enjoy low fuel consumption.

- Better ride comfort
- Refresh infotainment
- More quiet cabin
- Softer suspension

Avalon is a large family sedan(car). It is more luxurious, powerful and rugged.

It’s the older versions of Honda that got this issue. Those EOD them set. Newer versions from 2014 don’t have such!

Honestly from the stand point of a concierge/mechanic, I’d pick the Camry and here’s why
- resale value/ resale demand
When I looked out for old listings of the Avalon and Camry 4 years back compared to now the Avalon actually has a 135 percent increase inc value compared to the Camry’s 80 percent increment, but realistically you’d obviously want to recoup your cash back quickly when you want to sell and here the Camry would win easily in the sense that it’ll sell faster
- Maintenance wise; from the picture you sent you’d be comparing the V6 in the Avalon to the 4plugs Camry, maintenance would be a little cheaper on the Camry.
- Fuel Economy ; Camry wins with a better fuel economy
- comfort - Honestly, it’s really hard to pick but the Avalon wins being a flagship model for the American market compared to the Camry
- Availability of part - you can’t really go wrong with either, part are readily available but can be pricy when it comes to major part like engine/ electrical parts like the pcs system radar sensor and the likes
- overall package; They both don’t have a lot of ground clearance but I’d say the Camry wins here.
