Growing up, I honestly believed all children were loved equally in a family. It took me years to realize that wasn’t always true. At first, I thought I was overthinking things. Small small signs were there, but I kept ignoring them. If food was not enough, I was always the one told to manage. If school fees became difficult, mine could wait while others were paid first. When my siblings needed help urgently, everybody in the family would contribute immediately. But anytime I needed support, suddenly everybody started facing financial problems. I still kept quiet because I didn’t want to sound ungrateful. The painful part was how different mistakes were treated in the house. If my sister messed up, excuses were made for her. If my brother failed at something, everybody encouraged him. But anytime I made one mistake, it became a serious issue and family discussion. I started noticing that I was always expected to understand, sacrifice, and endure. One particular incident finally opened my eyes completely. There was an important event in my life that meant a lot to me. I expected my family to support me the same way we always supported everyone else. Nobody showed up. Everybody had one excuse or another. But few weeks later, the same family spent money, travelled, and celebrated another sibling’s own event like it was the biggest thing ever. That was the day reality finally hit me. Some people are loved loudly in a family while others are only remembered when sacrifices are needed. Since that day, I stopped expecting too much emotionally from anybody, even family. Till today, I still wonder if some children are simply born to be the “strong one” everybody depends on but nobody truly prioritizes. Has anyone else ever felt this way in their family? |

NaijaFamilyGuid:Me, i have kind of finished going through it and I am thankful that it happened to me for it is because of it, i was able to understand what the Bible was teaching and now, God has lifted me up such that those same people cannot easily come to me even when they need my help. |

These experiences often happen in families but it seems you've turned the corner in your situation. Keep on with your grind and continue to man up. Life is teaching you a lesson. Don't put much trust in people but pray to have the grace to be the bigger man when the tables turn, as much as your heart can take. No two people are favoured the same by life, and family. Cheers! |

Dtruthspeaker:True talk. Some painful experiences eventually become the reason people grow mentally, spiritually, and financially. |

Day169:Deep words honestly. Some experiences harden people, while others learn and grow from them. The “don’t become bitter when the tables turn” part really stood out to me. |

NaijaFamilyGuid:That's it. Though it depends on how a person chooses to play it. |
