Picture the soul as the control center. It controls what either the body or the spirit does. When a person dies the soul departs the body because it can no longer find expression. It then permanently merges with the spirit forever. Spirits don't die.

I think confusion is brewing when one cannot place the meaning of "spirit" as used, and then Soul.

More so, we tend to swallow the understanding of people whose works make up the religious books that may not necessarily be spirituality advanced enough to get it that 'soul is the spirit behind any sentient life'. The term 'spirit' means different things in contexts.

By and large, Soul is the control center which runs the different subtle bodies in man. Whether the subtler bodies are what is referred to as spirit or not, a body whether subtle or physical does not qualify to be termed "spirit" in that it is mechanical relative to its scope of operation.
