Former President Goodluck Jonathan has decried the growing influence of political thuggery in Nigeria, describing the country as the only nation in Africa where thuggery has become a profession.

Jonathan spoke on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association Law Week in Abuja, where he called for reforms in Nigeria’s electoral and judicial systems to strengthen democracy and restore public confidence in elections.

The former president added that it is also a she that thugs earn more than professors in the country as it is not an unusual occurrence to see them fly first class while a professor struggles to afford economy.

“Look, Nigeria is the only country where thuggery is a profession in Africa. I don’t want to mention the state. Some thugs, when they are travelling out of this country, fly first class, while university professors struggle to manage to buy economy tickets.

You caused it , you shouldn't have allowed APC anywhere close to the corridors of power, now see how bad they've destroyed our country .

Tinubu have destroyed everything that our founding fathers laboured to build. The economy is in shambles, terrorism and banditry is now the order of the day and the useless president isn't doing nothing about it till president trump stepped in .

But I believe that Nigerians will get it right in by kicking this APC government of terrorism and economic hardship out in 2027.

APC is busy recruiting thugs and 419ers into the political structures of this country. Thugs are being prepared to be governors and Reps members. We already have a state where almost all the LGA chairmen are thugs. Every political gathering under this dispensation seem to begin with gunshots and end with stamped..., It is worrisome.

In certain parts of the country, you can't do anything without thugs high on drugs, coming to charge you a fee for simply being there. I haven't seen anything like it before... You can't shoot videos. You can't start off a building. You can't onload your wares. You can't...., they are everywhere collecting "taxes and rates" that should go to the government.

People have been speaking out virulently about this, but those who have perfected the art of hijacking elections by utilising the violent "services" of renowned thugs have done nothing. In the markets, on the roads, on the bridges, through back alleys, you can't function effectively without a violent thug ready to assault you unless you comply to his bidding..

That is not how you build a country, that's how you wreck a country..

If APC won the election what was he supposed to do. Refuse to hand over power? How was he supposed to know APC would turn out this way... through psychic means?

If you will not support Obi, please stay out of the next presidential elections. Remain neutral like an elder statesman to avoid facing disgrace. Stop getting pushed around by Tinubu and his lackeys.

When I think about Jonathan I develope mixed feelings!

Firstly I like that gentleman nature in him. His human nature, his good nature for humanity.

Then again I hate him for the ascension of APC and Buhari and subsequently Tinubu to power.
